  1. downscale shite 4k to 1080p and you have great 1080p. hence the popularity of the 1DC
  2. then you have perforations to consider... 4 perf 35mm with anamorphic is about the same image area as full frame 36x24 still photography sensor in 16:9 mode.
  3. Superb lens. A top quality Kowa in different clothing.
  4. don't get too worried about it. the sensor will have a thin piece of glass covering it. just clean as you would your favourite lens. use a blower first in order to remove any debris that might have found its way into the sensor area. then as said, a cotton wool bud with a little lens cleaner on it to disolve the oil from your finger. I recommend calotherm, caloclear lens cleaner (it evaporates and leaves no residue. never wipe the sensor with anything dry (in the same way you would never turn a cars windscreen wipers on when the glass is dry. - it might take a few passes to remove the oily finger print. always use a brand new cotton bud, and replace the cotton bud a few times per sensor clean session. - replacing it regularly will limit any chance of the bud coming apart and leaving lint, and in the process each discarded bud will take with it some of the oil and other contaminates that naturally build up on a sensor over time. costly sensor cleaning swabs are no more delicate than a cotton bud when used with care. If you buy some proper swabs make sure you have a good stock of them to prevent you being tempted to reuse.
  5. If it's good enough for Shane Meadows........................... It's good enough for you!:)
  6. i was going to make a similar comment but you nailed it. the piano player image is the best example IMO. you have the width of a 50mm, but the dof of a 85mm at f2. it means you can get portrait beuty style shots from further away. a very large aperture allows siginificant separation between in and out of focus subjects - normally only possible with a longer lens and bigger image plane. i guess the only way to beat/match the piano player shot from the same distance would be to use medium format and a 80mm lens for the same fov and dof
  7. I'm currently working on a design in my free time - a small block that fits to the side of the black magic pocket with the following connectors:- 2.5mm LANC 3.5mm stereo in 3.5mm Stereo out full size HDMI connector 2.5mm/0.7mm dc power connector Just a feeler as to whether to design it with intention of making one for myself, or to design it with intention to make a batch for others. Also, what sort of price would people deem something like this as being worth. The Chinese won't ever make something like this due to the demand being quite low. I think a nice solid full size hdmi would be a welcome addition to the pocket when rigged. - the micro one is worryingly delicate
  8. i was gonna say.. the multiple flares are definitely caused by the multi led spots. this aint gonna replace my century 3 element and iscorama, but I have to say they nailed the flare colour bang on. I'd love an iscorama that flared in this colour and with such prominence. Very 'Die Hard'. Please please please put a 1.5x oval in your FF58 and show us the results of this anamorphic with some ovals!
  9. turns out it now doesnt work with the lumix 20mm f1.7 either... another plus!
  10. i was focusing on the important stuff rather than the stuff that should be a given. if they allow review of files, why not allow deleting of them? i'd have specced a battery to accommodate the requirements of the circuit. UI is really bad imo.
  11. credit card maxed! its not for use with the new speed boosters, but for a special project that requires a baby sensor and raw:) just managed to find after about an hour of searching that they have released a new camera utility. the previous one (that came with the camera) is defunct. my confusion came from the fact that the camera already had raw enabled when it arrived, then after update the raw option disappeared.
  12. i'd keep it if i were you. and try to incorporate it into your workflow more. they'll only increase in value, and no other accessible lens can impart the same physical value to the visual of a piece than an iscorama.
  13. this thing is horrific! no ability to delete files or format card in camera... terrible battery life due to underspecced battery worryingly warm lack of focus punch in no touch screen partnered with silly navigation added to this, i just updated and raw shooting option has disappeared. very poor show! image lovely though
  14. i've been surprised by the warmth of some of the metal bodywork even after a few mins of it being turned on.. based on other people's experiences is this normal?
  15. why are you here? I seem to remember you being condescending towards me in this way too:- > You've been here 5 minutes spamming about wanting to buy an anamorphic lens and being rude to people. Well done.
  16. Damn. Let me just check my lottery ticket... Of all things to spend $4800 on I think if I had the cash this would be the first on the list. Beautiful sample images too.
  17. I've just done a very crude test using the APS-c crop mode on my A7R. Full Frame:- '> APS-C + Speed booster '> point of focus was on the eye balls of the squirrel. the lens was a zeiss planaer at f2.8. I downsized the large 36mpx image and overlayed it over the aps-c shot to even the odds resolution wise (the full frame shot was 36mpx and the aps-c shot was 16mpx.. notice how the defocus on the lenses in the background is the same, yet more of the squirrel's face and shoulders are in focus on the full frame shot. this should be less obvious as you move further away from the subject, however to me I seem to see it becomes even more obvious on medium/wide shots where the distance between the camera and the subject is greater.
  18. Unfortunately the comment is slightly wrong. the effect is actually changing the lens focal length. the ratio between defocused infinity and an 'in focus' subject in the foreground will indeed be the same as on a bigger sensor without the speed booster, but the actual look can be quite different. assuming you took a 50mm f1.2 lens on full frame, and put it against a 80mm f2.8 lens on medium format, the ratio of 'maximum defocus' to 'in focus' and the fov would be similar, but the actual rendered image would be drastically different in terms of depth of field. the medium format image will have more ping to the in focus subjects. assuming the point of focus were the eyes of a model, the medium format setup would capture a deeper depth of field while still creating as strong maximum defocus. Therfore the medium format image will render a greater amount of the face in focus than the faster lens on a smaller sensor. the same differences will be seen when comparing a boosted pocket vs an aps-c sensor. both will have the same ratio of defocus to focus, and the same fov. but the aps-c will render its depth of field in a more sectioned off and 3 dimensional fashion. the pocket will be over a stop brighter though.
  19. I think this video highlights the fundamental flaw with the camera... it looks to me that the too low bitrate cant accommodate the detail the sensor and lens combination is capable of. Seems the same with my A7R. up close shots (the ferrari wheel) looks stunning, where the wides looks horrible to my eye. I am really looking forward to seeing what hdmi external recording does to the overall image. Another issue is that the lens looks too much like a high quality photography lens rather than a cinematography lens. No amount of profile tweeking or post production can take away the digital feel this lens seems to be imparting on the image.
  20. goes to show, the iscorama is ready for whatever new resolution marketing the technology companies throw at us in the next 10 years!
  21. The sonnar is a good lens. however seems to have a bit of a collectors price tag on ebay. if you see one for 100-150£ its worth it.
