thanks for this little article Andrew. I have been looking at their website regularly hoping for a UK distributor to pop up. If I wanted a dumb e-mount or M4/3 on there is it possible? Speed Booster required! :) Also, is the DE company supplying to UK?

the little jupiter 8 with a l39 adaptor is very short. I've tried this on the iscorama and it was stumpy but worrying having as much weight hanging off such a small lens. have a look at the voigtlander LM mount lenses. They I was considering their 40mm f1.4 as a partner to my iscorama due to its short length

future proof Manual Focus lenses for BMPCC & M43 BMCC

You're preaching to the choir when you bring up 'over sharp' lenses. Trust me, none of the lenses I had in mind are of the 'over sharp' nature. and to be honest, IMO there is no such thing as 'over sharp'. more 'over contrasty' which can be mistaken for sharpness and 'video like'. Those shooting on a true full HD camera such as the bm pocket should at least have a lens capable of delivering full hd sharpness. -Something that all but the very best c-mount lenses will struggle to provide, and even if they do, the likelihood is that they also vignette. invest money in real lenses with some future in them. The BM pocket will re educate everyone as to the reasons why 35mm was always the prefered choice over 16mm if budget allowed. And as a result the designers will move to a bigger sensor on their next phase, rendering your c-mount set worthless like they were before the bm pocket was announced. The thread starter will be a lot better off investing in nikkors as he suggests. Since they are going to be usable on his m4/3 sensor'd cinema camera, and also with speed boosters etc. And, if he ever got a Red Dragon, his nikkors will cover that sensor, and deliver sharpness up to the task for that too! -
future proof Manual Focus lenses for BMPCC & M43 BMCC

Personally I wouldn't trust an C-Mount lenses for full HD work. They are simply not good enough, and this will show the more people start to use them. my advice would be to consider the speed booster without a doubt. and invest in a set of decent 1960's-1980's MF lenses from Zeiss, Nikkor, Olympus, Canon. you'll need a 16mm for your wide equiv - which will hit you hard. then a 25mm which will also be a bit expensive. a 35mm and a 50mm on bmcp + speed booster these will equate to 32mm, 50mm, 70mm and 100mm in full frame terms. the better set you get, the more future proof you'll be. expect a m4/3 pocket announced by bm in the next few months-before they have even started proper manufacture of the 16mm version, and at that point, using a m4/3 sensor your speed booster will turn your lenses into a superb set with a focal length range covering 25-75mm and assuming you'll have bought f2.8's over the range, these will be f2's thanks to the speed booster. -
Thanks for your kind words Paul. Its exactly the type of look I wanted. trying to replicate the look from Deliverance. locked down shots, etc. Your kind words are much appreiciated. you might be interested to see what came out of the camera before the grade..:- http://vimeo.com/71855552 Password: clevedon Yes... There is a 35mm coming very soon, as well as a 90mm. though the 58 should be considered the go-to, with the other focal lengths being for when the 58 just wont do it. 58 cant be matched`!

I've put the prores files through some cc and some sharpening and am exporting now. thanks for the Mirror Andrew. I have to say, I am quite impressed with the footage. or atleast the one shot of the people. surely this guy could have been a bit more creative with his selection of location. wow what a dull place! -
I'm assuming this seller has never even seen or held an iscorama in real life. thats a full plas Nah... I'm all piped out at the moment!

Will you accept 8,000$ ?

This is indeed a very likely that the differing coatings along with the curvatures could be contributing and interacting. the rollei HFT coatings are pretty much the same as the T* coatings. Rollei contributed to the development of the hft/t* coatings and then licenced the makeup naming it HFT. You might benefit from looking at the Pre HFT / T* coated variants. Though I know rollei didnt produce the 50mm f1.4 planar in the non HFT coating. You'd need to select their f1.8 version without the hft coatings. I have the full set of pre HFT rollei zeisses from 25mm up to 135mm which when I am next in Bristol you are welcome to try the 50mm out. they can be had for £70 or less and are about as sharp as the contax 50mm f1.7.
-
how are the two mating optics in terms of condition? the rear of the anamorphots, and the front of the zeiss. even the slightest imperfections or residue on the two elements that face each other could contribute to some undesired interaction between the two. As Redstan recommends, try some Calotherm 'Caloclear' lens cleaner. other than this, I can only assume that the curvature of your anamorphot rear elements happens to be interacting with the curvature of the front of your zeiss with standing reflections between the two.

Not economically viable. I think the boss of BM is going a bit cloud cuckoo. if it were a big campaign by Apple (who are able to deliver a product on schedule and in mass) to hit microsoft hard with an almost propaganda style marketing campaign it would make sense, but since these guys don't have the ability to deliver to the market sector they are hitting with this strategy and price point then it's all for nothing. All they are doing is devaluing products from the established brands (who may be slightly more expensive due to accurate pricing rather than Black Magic low price propaganda). When Canon, Panasonic and Sony, as well as RED, Arri etc start to loose profit due to people haulting planned purchases based on a promise from the bunch of liars at Black Magic it will be the valuable R+D that the big boys are responsible for that starts to suffer. I cancelled my pre order for the pocket based on a resentment for BM's strategy of forcing people to wait by offering dream pricing figures almost impossible to ignore and that sway decisions on purchases of the products that are actually avaialble to buy and use now.

http://vimeo.com/71617895 gives a little bit of an idea. I think my selecting a +2 diopter was a bit overkill. but you get the idea:)

I suppose the best way to get an idea of the results will be to watch videos shot with a 5dmk2 or 5dmk3. andrews recent raw 5dmk3 video where he used a iscorama shows very much how the full frame look can boost the anamorphic aesthetic. however, as stated, in order to gain anything 'speed wise', you'll need to be using anamorphics that dont apply any light loss. i've seen the same vignetting issues (maybe marginally less) from the speed booster on aps-c when compared to what you'd expect from a full frame. So if the widest you can go at the moment (on aps-c) is 50mm, you'll need to use an 85mm with a speed booster. if the widest you are currently using is a 35mm, you'll need to switch to a 50mm with the speed booster. in doing this, your angle of view will remain the same but your dof will be shallower and your exposure will be +1 stop at the same aperture setting as you are used to using at the moment,
-
Speed booster improves overall sharpness on the iscorama and zeiss planar 50mm f1.8 (at f1.8). Bokeh is a lot more pronounced. Edges suffer marginally on landscape shots, bit in most situations the edge softness only adds to the perceived shallow dof. I have also tried quickly on a mates little cinevision 8mm 1.5x which is great at f2 on a helios 44 on aps-c. but on speed booster it vignettes a lot. but sharpness seemed unaffected. dof was shallower, but since the little 8mm doesnt gain any light at apertures bigger than f5.6 the speed booster didnt add any more light - just shallow dof. the requirement to use a longer lens than normal (to avoid vignette), as well as the shallower dof naturally pronounces the ovals making 1.5x ovals look more pleasingly like the more authentic cinematic look you get from 2x ovals.

News round-up including a look at the 70D's image quality
richg101 replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
personally I love the look of the hasselblad rebranded rx100. shame they didnt do it to the new model though. If they included a pair of viewfinders (both an optical and an electronic), I think the price would be justified. Not being the son of an oil baron makes this something I couldn't justify. - especially as for the same price you can get a set of 3 hasselblad zeiss 2.8's which will never go out of date or lose their value -
now is that beautiful or what? I can't imagine a nicer little setup (even if it is a little expensive) for taking proper photos with, in a conventional camera to eye setup. I imagine I'd stay with the lens set to widest and at f1.8, autofocus and enjoy composing on the evf. lovely!
-
Since the new rx100 mk2 will support an optional oled evf i seriously consider those who are interested in the camera should try out the sony evf if they havnt already. i finally invested in one for my nex and i am blown away. finally a difital setup that is good enough for traditional still photography using mf lenses. I imagine the little rx100 and evf will be equally and enjoyable to use as a compact stills camera as it will be for shooting video without messing around with interchangable lenses
