1. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Century-Optics-4x4-Sunshade-Filter-Holder-0DS-FH44-00-/390436902067?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item5ae7da54b3#ht_3332wt_908 very expensive for what it is, but I have one of these. lovely and small and mounts directly to the lens - no rail mount. Tightens around a 72mm step up ring really well. room for 2x schneider 4x4's. being century (owned by schneider) they are compatible with pro filters. Wish I had the cash for the century filter set. a few nd's, fades etc. lovely search around. I got mine for around £80 brand new.
2.
anyways, i hope nobody already bought a cage from us or others because blackmagic just told us that the camera body will rise 2mm because they added a plate at the bottom of the camera for better ventilation... so we`ll have to adjust our cad`s a little...
This is where Black Magic have really let people down. It goes to show they have not been honest with regard to shipping dates. because it proves their design was nowhere near ready for shipping, or even mass manufacture. forget supplies of sensors or other stuff. the design was not finished. If this change has just happened then it means they are not at production stage yet - still prototyping. Very rude and unprofessional to use a false preorder to build up funds for the manufacture based on bending the truth. A cheap shot in my opinion. If Digital Bolex had done this they would probably be selling their product by now. Though it doesnt matter to me - I'm not in the market for a raw cinema camera. but it does annoy me seeing the plot thicken I hope I am proven wrong
3. did your nex7 housing ever go into production? I thought that was a beautiful piece of kit from the photos. just wish the nex7 had the same sensor as the nex 5n.
4. Looking at the beautifully machined aluminium i think they missed a trick making it black! I imagine a silver anodisation would work amazingly in keeping with the theme of the black magic look. replace the hard wood handles for some laminated 'zebra' look timber. bleached birch laminated with stained black birch! lovely!
5.
Century Optics is easily adapted to Nikkor lenses. I get none with my 24mm Nikkor on the GH2 (With the GH2's kit 14-42mm I've been able to open it up to ~18mm without vignetting).
people need to factor in the century and optex adaptors a lot more seriously now the bmcc is coming. smaller sensor is key to really good results with these lenses. you can go 28mm with apsc and no vignette and very usable results. so with 2.3x crop you get the slightly soft edges at this width sliced away and make use of the best part of the frame. I imagine a 35mm f2 taking lens with the bmcc and century would be a very good match. 55mm in full frame terms, f2 for speed and shallow dof. with the tokina +0.4 you can focus from 11 inches to infinity from f5/6 and up. or at f2.8 you can get focus from 1mtr to infinity. pretty good for an all in one lightweight little setup with a single focus ring.
6. looks like they took some influence from Alpa medium format cams. I quite like it.
7.
Looks good. The changing leaves add a nice splash of color. This is a very sharp lens. And you wrote the music too?!
Hey man. Yep it was a rescore I wrote a few years back for Danny Boyles Sunshine. Not that it needed a rescore. here is another bit of footage - this time shot wide open at f1.8 with controlled lighting via my prototpye led array running off battery for over 2hrs. https://vimeo.com/50363360 even wide open this beast stays sharp when you want it to!
8. I went out and got a bit more footage with the iscorama today. this time nautical themed. https://vimeo.com/50175295 even got some moire on the bag strap on one of the shots. not got sharp enough footage to present moire from a one focus ring anamorphic setup before. I'll be shooting the first proper short with this in the coming weeks. I think i finally have a scope setup that can be relied on
9. im awaiting to see if the nex 5r, and the nex 6 have better downscaling of the sensor resolution during video. apparently the processors are higher spec than last year
10.
Oh yes, serious Photojournalists will enjoy the capacity to do video -as well- as stills if the quality is "good enough", by if the Leica M turns out to be a video beast, them many more people will flock to it. >>As impressive as the video might potentially be on the Leica M, I'm not sure what person would plunk down €6200 specifically to shoot video with it.
but, those looking at a 1DX as a dual purpose 50/50 camera in a high end fashion shoot studio environment might instead look at the leica if it made their videos look twice as good at the expense of the other more industrial still photography features being removed. or If I were an in house architectural photographer or similar acting as also a high end new media guy in a high end small company like that I think I may also look at this. 24mp in a full frame would be more than adequate for most work
11.
shame about the coming wars and economic collapse. but i will take this leica into any war zone with pleasure.
I just lol'd. Things are quite quiet for me here. I think a good bit of civil war would fill the time and do us all good.
12. I love the look. it looks like standard definition (in a good way). What I mean by that is it looks like expensive standard def rather than cheap high def. like the difference between late 1990's big budget bbc and Itv programs like morse / piorot and 5D mk2 footage. The SD high budget piorot and morse actually looks higher definition than what we often see as 1080p when played back on a decent system
13. It may well work, and might be sharp, but will be horrifically unpleasant to use unless mounted to a strong rig. the messing around to make it sturdy and usable will end up costing more than a more usable/desirable lens IMO. these things are bigger and heavier than they look in the photos. and i imagine you wont be able to focus any closer than about 2-3 meters
14. Maybe the heat coming from Pocahontas was screwing up the internals of the camera?
15. Could it be a lens issue? in the same way certain RF type glass just doesnt work well with the nex7's high pixel count? Could the lenses be at fault causing this problem. Was this a new lens (also at prototype stage) used to shoot this test footage? I don't want to give up on the new gh yet.
16. looks good. looks nice and flat considering the range of brights to darks I'd expect to see in a conference like this. blacks look clean, even on the vimeo playback. not good enough to make me move away from the nex 5n (especially since it just went down to £250 body only!), and i imagine not a good enough improvement over the gh2 (as you say, it is not as pleasing overall as the 2 yrs old gh2)
17. cant make it play... anyone else able to get it to work? root menu also shows a99 footage but this doesnt work either...
18. http://fil.io/FL82vTNBG/Panasonic%20GH3 just the 50mbps but im downloading now..
19. The only thing I will say against this comparison is the fact that most of the very orangy shots looked like the 5dmk3 was being pushed to its limits with the 3band curves. -obviously it will fall short against a 4:4:4 camera. and I wouldnt be surprised if the shots from the 5d3 would have looked better if he had used the 5d with the wb set to get closer to that warm orange when he shot it meaning less grading of the h264 footage. I also felt the bmcc footage (in respect to the lens flares) looked like the aperture wasnt as wide open meaning a natural sharpness increase in the flares. the first dolly shot showed the 5d3 falling foul to its large sensor. the shallower dof made it look less sharp overall. bmc's bokeh test looked way nicer than the 5dmk3. goes t show the full frame and a f1.4 is too shallow to be taken seriously any more.

21. I'm guessing the 1dc stores straight to card? in 4k? if this is the case, this will gain more market appeal than the red scarlet. even though so many people have this hankering for raw, most dont have the money to then spend multiple $$$$ on the additional hd's (more than £80 worth of ssd storage per 3 minute is it not? and more importantly, most are not undertaking work that even warrants raw. having 4k straight to card and the dynamic range of the full frame sensor would be amazing, even it if is compressed in camera such a shame they dont value the additional feature as an additional £500 on top of the cost of the 1dx. in this respect they would turn the industry around like they did with the 5d2
22. No owner users will exist for this item. but the hire firms will lap them up. and I for one would hire one over the C300. I like the dslr form factor and if asked to carry out super high end fashion photography I'd use this for both photos and video.
23. I decided to make a longer video with more of the footage I shot that day.. https://vimeo.com/49847311
