1.
Here is the interview that the Personal-View team conducted with a Panasonic Senior Project Manager Matthias Matthes (unable to embed): https://vimeo.com/49831263
wow that gh2 footage is damn sharp on the interview
2.
paris loo vre footages i wish der kids would stop pissing around wid chinese soft fast lens not a good choice of lens or a good corporate choice for a new camra innit
I was gonna say. have we seen the camera used with proper lenses? People go on and on about the new panasonic zoom lenses and how good they are, but for true nit picking of video quality wouldnt it be better to atleast be making proper judgement of footage shot with atleast a set of cp2's on there via pl adaptor?
3.
More Pocahontas (at the end):
Look how bloody ridiculously awkward that bmc camera looks on the vimeo still image. almost as ridiculous as when you see a bloke taking family pictures on the beach with his ipad.
4. Hey tony. I may be interested. my tokina is amazing but i can only focus between 3.5ft-10ft with it. Hoped to get a bit further away for long tracking shots from close up to greater distance than 10ft in one take. Id be happy to deal out of paypal and ebay. i guess one of these beasts will also allow me to focus closer if I stack it in front of the tokina. would that give me a 1.5ft minimum? PS.. I saw a iscorama 36 on ebay which had been modified for closeup use. the thread had been extended so the front focusing element could travel further forward while still being able to travel all the way back for infinity.
5. cheers tony. I spent a lot less than they seem to go for on ebay. a little lens separation, but nothing affecting image. I found a company who will repair to back to new condition (element reglue) for £170 but its not at that stage yet. I'll send it off when I have recovered from the financial damage the Isco did to me:) The company also offer lens coating removal for £40 per lens surface:)
6. I'm just trying to get together a good enough crew to shoot my first well scripted short drama. it will be anamorphic:) to be honest I may not even be anywhere near the camera. Trying to find a source for PL adaptors so we can use the iscorama and rollei zeiss lenses on a sony f3. no luck as yet. can only find m42 adaptors
7.
Why did this guy get a camera?
look at the video. its fun and enjoyable to watch. he made the effort to get a girl to perform in front of the camera in an amazing location. this will sell more cameras than a sharpness and dynamic range focused test by some stuffy kid on the internet.
8. I decided to join the exclusive club.. Club Iscorama. So far all I can say is the price is well worth it. I have decided to hire it out to local film makers to offset the cost a little. And share my luck in finding one. I am literally blown away by the enjoyability of using the lens. The Achromat +0.4 I recently re acquired is a definite must have for close ups. but overall, the lens is so sharp - even at wide apertures. the lack of breathing during rack focus is superb. https://vimeo.com/49687242 forgive the rather boring clip. and the regular misfocus. occasionally i get it right and at these points it is very sharp. you can watch full 1080p via full screen. I think from now on this will remain a tripod only lens. movement doesnt seem to work well IMO. its killing the cinematic look a little. shot on the cine housed nex5n, zeiss planar, portrait profile, -2-2-3, 50p, conformed to 25p
9. I recon it was a private sale that someone asked the seller to create (they probably wanted the ebay buyer protection and paypal fallback). the seller left it blank to prevent others from bidding or getting involved.
10. what a beautiful bit of styling. it'd be a coin toss between the gh3 and pocahontas...
11. I asked if it was 4:2:2 and paul genge said it is actually 4:4:4. i asked if he can get absolute clarification from a sony rep tomorrow... They do keep using the term 'RAW' when they speak about the hdmi output. maybe this is what they mean!
12. love the two finger anti drop concept. Really nice idea
13.
I'm still not getting it, my 5dII with Alexs hack can record above 50mbit/sec h.264, so that's hardly game changing. All-I is an inefficient codec that has shown to not substantially increase image quality, I suppose the one advantage is those on slow macs won't have to transcode all their footage to be able to edit. 60fps is not particularly slow motion and totally pointless otherwise. Still no confirmation on the clean HDMI output. The build quality is much higher, but in the way that makes it seem more like a travel camera.
gh2 out of the box at 24mbs is better quality than your 5dmk2 at 50mbs with proper lighting. Bitrate isnt everything, but the way the gh range acquire the footage from the sensor is different meaning a bitrate increase on this is going to add worlds more quality than a bitrate increase on any 5d. Add into the equation the increase on DR (a weak point of the gh2) and professional body, and the price being less than half a 5dmk3 and the excitement amongst film makers is justified. 60p full hd on the gh3 will probably be about 4 times sharper than 720 60p on the 5d. Twixtor with 60p is nuts - dont knock it till you tried it. The only reason for a 5D in movie making nowadays is when you cannot light a public place enough for lesser low light machines to work. And this single advantage is soon to be killed off by the upcoming Sony full frame camcorder. The full frame is a disadvantage for all other types of work IMO
14. I see lots of adaptors allowing PL glass to be mounted onto DSLRs. Are there any options to allow vintage SLR lenses such as contax cy, Canon FD, Oly OM etc lenses to be used on RED and similar cameras with PL lens mounts?
15. Spec sheet of dreams. I been waiting for a m4/3 sensor camera to come out for use with anamorphic lenses. not gone with the gh2 yet due to expecting this to come out. The BMC is out of the question due to file sizes. this is perfect. Will an Iscorama 36 + 25mm taking lens vignette on m4/3? Will this provide 4:3 recording at 70mbit?
16. Hey Tony. Do you have any old rodenstock m42 lenses in your arsenal? Being a vintage lens enthusiast, I was hoping you would be able to give and opinion on these older exacta/m42 rodenstocks?
17. Eur 90,000 for a set of 3... Quite a good business investment IMO. -If you can get them hired out continuously that is!
18. i'd like to see the Nex SEL50f1.8 (image stabilised), wide open, on the Iscorama. Or, the upcoming OSS 35mm f1.8 from the same range
19. check the bm website... image on there! same price as ef version
20. this is indeed big news. it fortifies the fact that with a single camera from a particular generation it is possible for Someone1.00 to create working patches based on the information he can withdraw from the model he has in his hand at the time. It also shows he can modify specific details of the operating system. I'm guessing this type of change is about 100x deeper and more complex than the initial firmware name change from a few weeks ago? @Someone1.00, Based on what you have done to achieve this, would it be the same depth of working process to make modifications such as an increase to the total long exposure time from 30secs to 5 mins for example? I think a mod like this would really start to capture the excitement from the masses... I guess this would be significantly less complex than making changes to the video codec/bitrate, but is still a very physical and groundbreaking change that long exposure 'night photographers' would welcome. again, well done on this!
