  1. Terrific tool... PDAF + IBIS at this level put it at a special place for under $2000 indeed ;- )

    UEFA Euro 2024

LOL Thanks for your kind support and good time for celebrating then, either ways you'll be fine ; ) I am already used for a weakness but of my own and love about England... Without mention LVT, Dreyer and Kierkegaard are the remaining ones to always have to share some care for Denmark too! : ) Love Diogo Jota... and that CR7's offside was actually in the opposite of the leftover but we've suffered a lot just until the end. We shall have fun for next month I hope! :- )

    UEFA Euro 2024

Portugal won today a difficult match against the Czech Republic, now known as Czechia in our UEFA Euro 2024 debut. Former European Champion in the previous tournament before the actual champions Italy, we dream with the 'caneco' (slang for cup in Portuguese ; ) Match after match, we have to not be a loser 7 times in a row... That's the secret formula! LOL : ) What about your expectations? Who's from here is following the game?
  4. That one arrived last week from UK, still waiting for the adapters to couple the customary manual glass... which should arrive by tomorrow or Thursday just in time for The Waterboys concert this Friday. Those 4x G7 units are used for multiple-camera setup needs, here are some grabs extracted from one of those 4K 25p H.264 codec (where high resolution shows some advantages of its own) videos I cannot publish for music copyright not under my umbrella but just for a couple of ETTL samples here now: The artist is a famous Portuguese Grammy winner who represented the country with an honourable 7th place in Eurovision 1980 BTW with a few universal words in German/English/Italian/French mixed in the lyrics...
  5. LOL 100% agreed... Loved everything there. Roll-off, grain, colour rendering, skin tones included... my fav specific sensor rendition, so I'd place it in the top with the other advantages you've already pointed out:
  6. I left the 5DII for the GH1 as my fav then... GH2 became a legend for Coppola and the hack. If GH5S is the one I'd choose... No doubts GH7 is the one to mark the end of an era of contrast-based autofocus and finally, the introduction of DPAF... - EAG
  7. LOL Indeed : ) Following that hence this poll now... it's not a chrystal clear process but details there ; )
  8. @PannySVHS as we all know it's the man behind, not the pen who makes the poetry and you're one of those, kudos buddy! : ) With 4x units G7 still is today one of my fav cams ever...
  9. Of course, why not? ; ) Without mention we are both and everyone able to post here as Andrew's guests : ) This is a thread about how influential FF is now, the option B is every alternative elsewhere ;- )
  10. Mirrorless form factor brought lighter devices... With the modern sensor tecnologies, grain/noise is under control, high resolution target is now at least on 6K video with no overheating... And price range starts today under $2000 for S5II/S5IIX at the active cooling side... : D See Blackmagic customers in the bargain on their turn, even them can also become FF users nowadays... Long story short? The fastest lenses.
  11. As I've been telling you before, Marty, you have a particular sensibility/talent for handling colour, without mention framing... i.e., a very unique atmosphere of your own ; ) - EAG
  12. When the user wrote that the focal reducer sucks, I guess it's because of the experience to have to couple more glass to the camera/lens setup... The point is that the now infamous : D 'medium format look' is often referred for the circle of confusion, which is something crucial going along optics, the border between what it is in focus and its visual impact (where all the aforementioned process of perception arises) with the bokeh (comes from the word boke, blur in Japanese) -- and let alone all the discussion about the quality of the bokeh itself, as much as colour rendition, etc.. Let's take this DoF tool in hands for the introduction of a 0.7x reducing factor: For some reason to deal with the real size of the 645D sensor, there's a negligeable difference with the film counterpart but a substantial distinction as far as the CoC concerns compared with FF. The larger it is the smoother the look will end. - EAG
  13. For sure : ) Hence hybrid tools should be seen for video as primary scope of their natural target and not stills as usually is taken. A professional is someone than runs a craft for living whatever segment of business is.
  14. Technical sense is different than saying from a technician sense or perspective... ;- )
  15. Of course. But, when they want they give it to us, R5C was the answer to the R5 overheating problems. What comes first? IBIS or solving the issue? Still any doubts? Why not to buy one of these then? And when they don't put fans or don't care for thermal issues with an effective active cooling design, what can we expect? Yet, I am done with still photography coming first rather than motion picture for hybrid pipe dream. When this actually should mean quite the opposite. And if you/we're unable to work with stills without having control on motion at first grade in 2024, you/we're in the wrong business in all likelihood : ) Moreover, I am done with still photographers (and I am not completely outside of this bloody group when also shoot stills but don't sign the subscription) claiming or intending they come first than the rest of the crowd, like photography arrived first than cinematography... Phew. So what? Since Jim & Jannard launched the Digital Still and Motion Camera concept, the times have changed. Yes, tiptop audio is mandatory in a mirrorless camera and still photographers can go to the hell with their mantra! I'm sorry for my hard words but this has been one of the main problems of this segment of the camera industry. Many losers who are unable to handle moving image dictating how or/and where the manufacturers have to put their eggs. Something has changed the world. High-end is not the same throughout this last quarter of century, when from one hundred of users only 15 years ago to have access to a system born in the 6-digit realm, we have now millions of users receiving their last version of Resolve or/and prone to be upgraded and coupled to their affordable one or two grand camera. - EAG
  16. I'd say this one in the U.S. 😆 and BMCC6K-FF are those the bets of today : ) Don't invite me for higher than that as far as price range concerns especially when overheating issues are far to be solved... : P Those are not professional capture devices, they are a pain in the ass, not a reliable camera for professional use. The use of lower resolution recording modes serves too little, these don't help either or why someone is buying them, after all?! : X
  17. In the first shot, not the 2nd one though. It's some encoding trouble I believe. I don't think it's anything coming from the acquistion, I'd dare to guess... But there are people here more from the technician side than a producer/shooter so let them to speak out... ;- )
  18. VAT... but U.S. in the most part of States also has sales tax, although much lighter...
  19. Well seen, it should be the same, I guess.
  20. Because battery dies... not else. If confirmed, this is the news to my book... Z8 has been outside from my radar because of my doubts on such an issue from user reports heard or read.
  21. I think it's more a case of misunderstanding instead... No one called it magical, someone has decided to coin the expression based on those "feelings" ; ) a few other readers read the interpretation of that but not what people exactly said on topic. At a certain point it is not what people have written but what has been written those people said : D One side doesn't like the name the other side has called to it. And claims any introduction a large sensor size may bring cannot be called a look many identify as a specific one of its own. All that could easily be possible to be refuted if under same variables nothing would be added to couple a larger sensor size when it is actually not. :- )
  22. *MFT (sorry for the dyslexia of my senseless word corrector : D)
  23. Magical "medium format look" is different of medium format look... I'd rather call it larger sensor size look. I actually don't like anything closer of the definition of being categorized as format either. I believe that a small part of @eatstoomuchjam's beef against this manner of speaking is this. I haven't read anyone to call it magical anyway. That said, yet someone praising that route can still be in love for a platform like MTF is ;- )
  24. Funny the way you ended your post... LOL ; ) Just a matter to give names to the things. I took sides because one doesn't invalidate the other :- )
  25. I hadn't noticed of it yet such a loss... Just some minutes ago when I had the chance to search about him and received the shock of the sad news... : ( https://variety.com/2023/film/obituaries-people-news/john-bailey-dead-academy-president-cinematographer-1235787930/ https://theasc.com/news/in-memoriam-john-bailey-asc-1942-2023 https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0007037/ Got the unique chance to meet him along a workshop made at the Lisbon Film School about a quarter of century ago when his presence and his lovely wife and E.T.'s editor Carol Littleton brought a singular experience with this passionate couple of the world of movies and filmmaking. For a few days, we had the chance to hear them to talk about their work in two respective distinct workshops as Lisbon Film School's visiting guest lecturers throughout their personal experiences of their own, the way they met in the old continent they simply loved and their first meeting IIRC in Vienna, Austria. Ordinary People (1980), directed by Robert Redford in his feature directorial debut, The Big Chill (1983), Silverado (1985), The Accidental Tourist (1988), made with his partner in crime Lawrence Kasdan, Groundhog Day (1993) or Mishima: A Life in Four Chapters (1985), produced by Francis Ford Coppola and George Lucas, directed by Paul Schrader with whom he also helped to make American Gigolo (1980)... https://theasc.com/videos/lighting-tech-tips-household-lightbulb-russell-carpenter-asc-1/john-bailey-asc-the-stylization-of-mishima Among a few of the case studies in those memorable days I really miss his input in that week from the bottom of the heart. Long farewell dear John, it was great to have had the happiness to know a bit more of your presence among us. Never forget the humble character typical of yours expressed in the way you addressed to each one of us, your workshop attendees whether classmates or the other film school instructors, you added no distinct treatment as used in those customary elitist circles more often than it should. Your vivid enthusiasm in that close personal and direct communication face to face stands in our memories, as well your helpful advices to bless our careers, always plenty of generosity, love and endless good faith, a big thanks! < 3 - EAG
