Seems the last GH5 testing entries on tap-to-focus are pretty positive to confirm Jon Pais' findings on the older GH5 sister (G85) BTW: [Focus Pulling in both modes: Touchscreen & Focus Transition] No idea on settings but lets us to infer those MY fastest settings were simply misleading. Reason why I never bought his tests as much reliable, likely to happen honest but biased IMO.

I guess this is worthy to have its own thread. Following some other thread out there: http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?353752-Le-cinemascope-en-6K-here-we-go-!&p=1986694138&viewfull=1#post1986694138 Here's some food for thought: http://www.bmcuser.com/showthread.php?2489-Proper-processing-upres-ing-and-the-future-5-years-of-resolution And especially this one: http://www.magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php?topic=8116.msg126639#msg126639 That is: http://avisynth.nl/index.php/Main_Page http://avisynth.nl/index.php/Nnedi3#Filters Finally, here's an interesting link with a fair explanation (see Graeme Nattress entry): http://www.reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?10124-Oversampling-Why-Does-it-Look-Good

Indeed. My question comes from the MY's test based on the fastest settings prone to fail: I guess slower settings can only help to prevent any hunting.
-
With no introduction of any hunting, Ken?

@nahua, indeed... But it doesn't make sense either to call it 6K photo or less than 5K video, that's what actually this camera and this mode both are too. I wonder on overheating not because I don't know both Sony and Panasonic. Man, you're speaking with someone who is customer of both brands for longer than your age very likely ; ) if you were born in 90s : D I wonder about, precisely, because they insist to these silly denominations such as 6K Photo or to present this camera only as 4K video capture device on film side. I thought this mode would only be available just for a few seconds. It seems you can have 3 hours out of it or until your battery or card will completely drain. Recording sound included. How come? Hence my fair try to detect where the catch is. People look like very crazy, very lately. Panasonic marketing doesn't escape to this remark. This camera is fully underrated. A shame.
-
How was your longest take? Did you notice any overheating or any other limitation on 6K Photo 3:2 mode for 5184*3486 recording? BTW, they should call it 5K video, once it captures sound...
-
It just needs to confirm the slower settings will stand the option without hunting, as happened on Max Yuryev testing but going with the fastest settings...
-
No worries, you've just arrived... ; ) Crowd? What crowd? That's a niche camera hated on every single Vlogger-reviewer... And confirmed by their followers as a new mantra because of what? An automatic mode. The crowd is out there. We are the minority. :P

I still believe tap-to-focus is the key to settle down the remaining AF issues, even though, there will surely be a sweet spot for the settings to make it work out, if not always much more than the situations reported.

Follow the breakdown here (the first one also includes the quote of Jon Pais):
-
Thanks man! We'll follow it up...

Quite sincerely, your eyes go beyond YT : ) The way you film the little Vietnam I've seen. Even sound design, as for instance. Recalls my imaginary on Vietnam history through the best of American cinema. Word. The care you put to shoot it too. Not only as director, but as DoP / operator. Without mention the way you post here. That is, your ideário in my native language, set of ideas, kinda ideology, in English. You can target your work for big screen IMHO. Your imagetic calls for it. Just my two cents, E :-)

The world is not all lost, after all (well, only the 1st one is mine :-D): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8WD9C3C2koU&lc=z13rwplrhlfzztpyz04chxzyhqyfcfxhlkw0k "To begin with, you'd use the brains to make a choice, same thing where you want the focus, then you'd lock it. Now seems simple, isn't it? ;-) This camera is not for people who don't understand a shit about it. But, apart the appearances (we all bet you don't speak all the time like that), when we go deep in your review, it's not hard to get you are not a moron, so what's up when you're unable to find a way? Did you test tap-to-focus by any chance? What will Matt Frazer think of you when you'll see each other next time?" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8WD9C3C2koU&lc=z12yxly43ozispyw004ccziy2onatvfj2bw "The GH5 is not made for VLOG and selfies... Get a Canon 70D at $800 for that and you'll be happy with the AF. People who spend $2k for the GH5 do it for the image quality and bit depth, they'll use manual focus (peaking) or lock AF anyway. (...)" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8WD9C3C2koU&lc=z12yxly43ozispyw004ccziy2onatvfj2bw.1491808591358142 "V-Log works perfectly on mine. I dont like the stabilisation but the rest ist just wonderfull. even the AF is very good. its a prosumer camera so you have to choose settings. if you change the 225 focus modus to center you get better results as the rx100, i´m sure about that" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8WD9C3C2koU&lc=z13bjzc4avn4ed3pn04cjbliwx3tjfzhiao "I think its obvious you shot in the 225 mode and that the problem. the sony focuses whatever is in the center, you can do the same with the gh5 if you choose center focus" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8WD9C3C2koU&lc=z13qfj1gjonqit2xo04ce1jyluqzyrl4ifc "Just curious, you have a tablet on the table. Why dont you use the app to set the focus and have it set to a fixed point? I do that with the GH4 and works out great!" Great post, Jon! Nice to read you :-)

Blame much more Panasonic reps than the complexity of their AF system. Other than that, it is a film camera, not exactly the typical vlog one. Good for her imagerie! ;-)

Actually, not : ) We speak Portuguese which came from Galician-Portuguese: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Galician-Portuguese https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Portuguese_language Spanish speakers speak Castellano, Castilian, in English, IIRC (we are able to understand them but there are distinct words and they fight to understand us; easier to read, obviously): https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spanish_language Thanks for the compliments! I try my best, even though, English is a natural language in my work almost 100% of the time.

LOL Very true. Office at Lisbon, but I am a man of the north of Portugal. Oporto is nearby. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Porto

I guess that Malta is a bit different of that one of mine, so comes really grateful to read you, as usual in the set of topics you're used to focus on your awesome posting : ) You should publish your memories, mate! :-) I run some businesses today, film production included. But, trader, seller, consultant (film, economics, law), instructor, and so on, as much as film critic / presenter / producer (newspapers, radio, TV), photographer, cameraman, editor, scriptwriter, director, in this industry, the same as life in general, I've done a bit of everything. Actually, I guess I am a full-time student for my lifetime being :-D

LOL Indeed. BTW, Malta is one of my homes too :-)

LOL I've been based in both Rome and Naples. I am still connected to both because I have my stuff spread all over there. Naples can be a contradictory town, fab people but odd things happen at times. Crazy location indeed. Good for vacations and you must take care of you all the time. True, you can't die before to go there. But please, don't let strictly literally written :-D Rome, on the contrary, is a peace of mind. Only a certain type of Italians are still there. Hey, I love them! So, I could only write "a certain type of"... Actually, I feel myself one of them, so I am able to tell everything about them/us (as Portuguese native, hard to write it because trust me, we Portuguese are same family, just a bit different, but as Roman I accept, in Rome, be Roman! :-D) Other than that, I love people a bit more to the North or East too -- lived in Eastern Europe as well. Pity their temper may follow their weather. Germany was the most perfect country where I've lived and there are a few of them already.

You need to come when I'll be there and able to show you the best of it. My pleasure and a honor to personally meet the man behind the soul from your posting (no need to call me out, to publicly announce you'll pay me flight and hotel to begin with... LOL ;-) It is my town, even though I was born thousands of kilometers away.

I can't have access from outside US (no proxies nor bit rate from where I am in order to watch the video content for now) but I read the headlines. Unbelievable, isn't it? I recall when in Rome something similar happened with me (that was my foot instead), I had better luck though because the subway train had given signs to start to run anyways. But, that was a train conducted and driven by someone not there, not people side by side as a camera shootout!
