Unnatural edges simply / always frighten me... ; ) Not colorful shapes ;-)

Take a look on this cinematic outcome... To whom comes from film realm, such called 'softness' (when not missing focus) is a bless :-) PS: Thanks for the compliments on 'I Cento Passi' (dal cuore : ) Speaking of missing links... our memory is, though, full of team work worries, past today. Such as two weeks of shooting to be repeated only because of a DAT tape lost and recording sound irremediably missing, respectively; missing parts to still be credited; €300 to remain as credit card limit in the main method of payment for (shooting) expenses such as mere flight tickets (main cast); the female lead character to be completely erased from the script made with so much love fulfilled by many only a few months before in order to cut off the budget and tighten up efforts or there wouldn't be feature film to show up in the end + the whole participation of a co-production team and checks to sign at one time and follow accordingly, go figure... Finally, all this became multiple awarded in Venice since a decade and a half ago, oh well, crazy craft this industry is *Phew*

Mavic e' tutto un altro discorso, secondo me : ) GH4/G7 (GH5 arrivera') anche qui :-)

Un pochino piu' sul serio adesso/a little bit more serious for now ;-) http://www.dday.it/redazione/17162/nuovo-regolamento-droni-cosa-si-puo-fare-e-cosa-invece-e-vietato

Above 2 kilos they demand for pilot license as same as the big ones with people inside... :D Oh yes, I am not seeing the Carabinieri or Polizia Municipale asking the same for it if you're playing with this Mavic, PRO or not.

In Italy? Si, certo : ) But, to whom wants better IQ, why Phantom or Karma...? C'mon :-)

It is legit :-) Here are other links with interesting and useful info on topic: http://www.shainblumphoto.com/2016/09/30/dji-mavic-vs-phantom-4-dng/ http://visual-aerials.com/mavicpro.html

Seems legit:

This time from my native country... BTW, that Roman temple seen on DJI video presentation is also a Portuguese location [ LINK ]

Too soft, here and there. Enough balance in some others. That's the business of the shooter. To balance the elements. Mushy outcome both from low bitrate codec and youtube encoding don't help, not even to evaluate either, the miracles a good colorist can achieve from.

Thanks for your post. Interesting soft 4K, sharp enough for cinematic inserts to be used if justified. I am sure it'll happen to be in the middle of a few professional productions worldwide. My beef with GoPro is also the sharp edges.

Peau supplies the best mod out there as workaround to the native fisheye: https://www.peauproductions.com/collections/peaupro-cameras

No worries, nothing against amateurs. I consider one of them to begin with. Only because I've decided to make this business for a living for more than two decades now, I just don't have videos to show in a personal account online on youtube, vimeo or suchlike. I am used to see my work melt in team work to be screened in Venice, Berlin -- two feature films in the same edition (2014), one of them awarded there made me proud, Sundance (also awarded in the same year edition), Locarno, San Sebastian, San Francisco, Hong Kong or London Film Festivals, among many others worldwide. Follow the IMDb link in my signature, maybe you'll find part of this stuff on youtube like yours. Frankly, no idea. Last time I checked (not fake modesty), I had to ask to put it out of there because was too early to sit in that distribution window; despite the fact we were sharing the same credits alongside a distinguished individual as Spike Lee, producer of the documentary, as well. Certain people are very proud of their work. Some others appreciate to run away from so many worries to occur in a daily basis when they tend to finally be over and you were in the middle of such. I actually am in this industry mostly because of my pleasure to watch a movie, so I try to have fun with the films of others as much as possible. To come here and trade ideas on toys with other amateurs in a deepest geek attitude is something priceless, mark my words. Nice piece of yours on youtube, by the way :-)

You bet! : ) In comparison with the excellence a standard like 35mm format (as well, sensor size related) with all the sorts of low-grade variants from 16mm to video has led the motion picture for more than a century to face our eyes. Take a second read in my stuff earlier along the thread (posts, likes...). They are all the same shit, more or less. As said before, they can be synonymous of fun, personal use, even some inserts (de)pending on certain circumstances and tricks. No more than that. A purchase can't necessarily mean a professional tool, as for instance. As same as a toy can be used in a gig if works. Mission accomplished. What's wrong about it? Just don't expect you'll become a race pilot only because you're able to drive fast in the highway with your brand new car. The F1 from 80s, 90s or whatever year you want will always belong to a different league. No matter what techie pins they will try to sell the fanciest new toy you/we all want to buy and play with. So far, at least :-)
-
Sorry dude, I can't help you out... Maybe you took those inserts upside down, trading places between cameras or the tricks@post among the same "mushy and blurry" flaws you find on Mavic... ; ) or those shiny edges to scream sharpness to everyone just not present in the other toy. A certain thing anyone can be sure, though: your enthusiasm seems more the like of an amateur who buys one or another one rather than someone really used to also shoot with these small sensor capture devices, if/when necessary. At least, this is the idea you leave behind the trace of your "HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA"s and alike. I'm sorry to disappoint you :-)
-
LOL Definitely, quote of this thread! My vote is on Mavic. Purchase, as well :-) GoPro is the most horrid camera even before the Lumière brothers did their presentation! No Protune saves the grace or its absence in pallid colors all the same from one side of spectrum to the other extreme. No idea why people dare to shoot on it other than personal stuff and a few shots as inserts when the magical hour cheats all of us...
-
Andrew, your forum software should let us for multiple 'push the like button'... ;-) There is... Interested people in such drone ready to fly, send me a private message... I guess me and my team we'll be able to supply to you one of those birds very soon :-)
-
I am hopeful on this toy... seems guaranteed fun. Only compression artifacts can bring me some concern. Other than that seems interesting to my eyes. 4K is more than enough. I guess soft 4K won't hurt :-)
-
IQ is not only definition. I've fairly liked the Mavic outcome much more. Actually, GoPro has always seemed to my eyes either too crispy or mushy because of compression, low color sampling and so on.
-
Well said. Be honest, bud. Your eye focus the chicks... ;-)

We can't know what's going there. Perhaps Luke could add anything on topic : P In any case, this announcement has already been a case study for marketeers. Their marketing à la RED will sell loads of pre-orders, at least in lots of minds here and everywhere. RED born on dvxuser. The camera (DVX100) had been a hit. More than a decade ago, but already in plain digital age. Seems Panasonic guys haven't forget one of their best lessons. The fact is also here now, in this blog, is curious and funny at same time. Canon reps look like they don't give a damn but the other fact is, who has stolen the thunder, after all? The day before 5DIV hit the streets... Let alone the specs announced versus the gospel/reality according to Canon : D

A rectangular sensor closer to a square than 16:9, without mention going with anamorphic. My friend, in the same way my semantics didn't serve to you, yours follows very well represented in that example : ) Funny, in the end, your post ended to apply a similar principle, hence to claim correction to be fair with each other ;-) 4:3 is for that as same as 1.33 TV format when TV sets used that aspect ratio or jumping to the photography example, the famous 15x10 and so on. Maybe that's me but I always set the camera to the 16:9 format instead, photos included. Now seems there'll be a 2:1 ratio in the welcome 6K photo mode, isn't it? So, here we go even less squared than ever! :X When we want to be literal or rigid, we risk to be confronted with our own side and our own fragilities; especially if we're just expecting the flow may occur only in one way and not the other way round :-)
-
Yes and no. In the same way, it happens with other formats, there's a sensor size for 4/3" format. Better now? ; ) To say that's related to the sensor size which is measured in mm means to be related to the sensor size used by the 4/3" format. Actually, some of these formats, as for instance, 4/3", 2/3", 1/2", 1/3", 1/4" are based on the 1" as reference unit instead. On the other hand, 4:3 is not a sensor size but the sensor aspect ratio :-)
