But, no IBIS, no 4K/60p, brick size, etc.
I think people are freaking out on GH5 flaws, really overestimating them. You can have solid stabilized outcome based on S35/FF look coupled to a Speedbooster bandinglessly on more than adequate color sampling and high bitrate for soon or with a monitor which is a recorder too, after all, for more less than 1,000 bucks.
    What's the big deal here?
To understand the sweet spot on AF settings or use tap to focus when run-n-gun?
C'mon pals, pixel peeping can be dangerous if taken overdosed ; ) There's no other similar camera for the price. End of story :-)

I don't know how many people use Auto focus on cameras for shooting anything. We shot a short film on a Canon 80D. The focus is pretty good. But in low light, close distance focus and when no individual is in the frame (or someone walks into an empty frame), the focus jump and the ability to figure out who to focus on is a joke.
The problem is not so much of whether is can focus accurately or whether there is any focus jump. The problem is there are many conditions under which a camera with auto focus is just a joke, and can never replace a human being. And the fact that a lot of it is absolutely unpredictable.
IMHO while dual pixel and all that marketing jargon sounds great, the fact that algorithm are far from great right now, means, that the hit and miss rate is huge.
Samsung Smartphones (and much smaller sensor cameras), have far better focus locking on subjects, and yet those too have their limitations.
I posted it here because I am genuinely curious to see whether someone actually shot an entire short film, documentary,  wedding or music video, or corporate work etc on Auto focus on a camera with dual pixel (canon) or something like an A6300 or even A6500. I think users' exaggerated claims have kind of pushed the facts into the realm of dreams. People say things more for effect than for their actual worth.

I did some vlogging stuff with a G7 on a trip earlier this week and I have to say that it performed really well and the articulating screen and iPad/iphone remote controlling of it was a real boon.
I actually wanted to take the GX80 for the stabilisation (I could've lived without the articulating screen because of the ipad/iphone remote) but the lack of a mic input made it dead in the water.
I'm now, of course, spending loads of time stabilising everything in FCPX which is a real pain in the arse and certainly detracts from the immediacy of what I was trying to do.
Clearly, the best solution for me would be to have the G7 with the GX80 stabilisation.
So that'll be the $80 over budget G80/85

I support the above recommendation for the nature of your projects, a G7 with a Chinese speedboster will be a good combination and stays in your budget, also a basic rig will be needed, if you go to ebay probably you can even add an external monitor and still stay under $800...

I´d say Panny G7. Has much, much better EVF than GX85! I´d call the GX85 EVF a pain to use due to heavy tearing, gives me a headache after
less than a minute. The display I find too small for me. G7 doesnt have IBIS but a cheapo rig compensates for handheld shooting.
In my opinion the IBIS does not replace a gimbal but is great to have for usual handheld work. But a rig is fine too.
So G7 for much better EVF, large enough display, Cine profiles as a bonus, great handling and up to 100USD less on ebay for used and new ones.
GX85 for its prettyiness, the pretty IBIS, the tactile feel of its beautiful body though a little bit too short for my taste.

Panasonic GX85 or G85.  Nice to have the IBIS.
If you really want to stay cheap, pick up used old glass and a dumb M43 adapter.
If you want better low light capability, you can get an inexpensive chinese speedbooster with a fast old prime.

For professional use, this is baffling funny:
    [from/on FAQ:]
"Since these settings were pushed to limit, the risk of corrupted frames is high."

Guess if that was written on the new GH5 manual... LOL
    Sorry, couldn't resist! :-)

Canon haven't releases a firmware update file yet for them either. Without that they dont even know where to begin.

Might be an interesting test once you have the original file in your hands and not the compressed version with huge(!) macro blocks on the wall that you can download as "original".

The autofocus is a bit bizarre on this camera. It works pretty well for stills, but for video it's inconsistent. I went outside and shot at ISO 400 in V-Log. It seems to be having issues focusing when there are big objects close to the lens.

Perhaps not on a7SIII, but sooner or later they will need to follow Panasonic. Long life to the company founded by Matsushita!

When you buy and sell used camera gear  you need to be careful. A lot of stolen stuff floats around and markets like eBay makes it easy for them to disappear. That’s why a service like Stolen Camera Finder is a godsend.
    http://www.stolencamerafinder.com/
I recently bought a Leica T. A lovely camera. For street shooting I would say its the best camera I’ve ever used. Totally in love!
But this is not about the camera.
The price was fine, the seller had a long history, everything seemed legit. He even provided the serial number. When I got it home I tested it out and everything was fine. The day after I had to leave for a tripp and I naturally brought the camera. It was not until I got home that I remembered that I should just do a routine check of the number on Stolen Camera Finder.
Why I didn’t do this beforehand, like I usually do is beyond me…
Stolen Camera Finder works by crawling the internet and sites like Flickr, registering EXIF Data.
In many cameras the unique serial number of the camera and lens are imbedded in the data. You then simply drag-n-drop an image on the site or enter the number manually. If the crawler gets a match its BINGO!
    You can:
Find a stolen camera Report a found camera Checkout previous owners of camera Track stolen and reposted images So What Happened?
I entered the number manually and… Bingo!
It had been reported stolen in Spain two years ago. So I filed a report of a “Camera Found” and waited for a day or two.
Since I didn’t hear anything I contacted Matt, who runs the site.
He has now put me in touch with the original owner who lives in Italy and we are working out the details on how it will be returned!
All in all I will probably loose a bit of money since the seller probably wont pay up and/or used a fake name etc. But I will certainly gain a bit on my “Feel Good Account”.
And at the end of the day, I would love it if the same thing happened to me if anything ever got stolen.
A bit of a sunshine story imo
(now back to searching for a new Leica T, like its slogan says, "Easy to use, Hard to forget".)
