well theres nothing with peaking set to high or low. Nada. Camera is on manual focus

I've noticed the last few weeks it seems to be hardly visible even on high. Now I cant see it at all. I'm using a nikon 135 f2. Even stopped down to 5.6 I get nothing. Its set to high. Is there another setting I'm missing?

I'm not getting the fizz. Normally by now after a camera release I've seen some footage that has. I got the fizz when I first saw some hacked gh2 footage. In fact some of that still does it. Canon raw video. Even the BMPCC, a7s. I get more fizz from my nikon d5500 vid. It all seems a bit characterless, a bit sterile maybe (and goddamit Ive seen moire in 4k. Argh!)

I want to see if there's any moire in textile patterns or weave. Some tallent's shirts make gx85 footage unusable. On another note, andrew why are you surprised you didn't get invited. You've now established (and are outspokenly and rightly proud of) the fact that you won't be bought, glad handed or mollycoddled into praising a product you think is crap. Accept the fact you are not in the same business as photo journalists, keep your integrity and be far more useful to us lot as a result. -
nikon are so cloistered I cant imagine them partnering with anyone. DJI would also make an interesting partner. I cant imagine it will be that long till DJI could buy Nikons camera division with spare change.

BINGO! Hee hee Sorry went back to vid and noticed it was labelled 1080. I can live with a bit of moire now and then in slowmo, have you found any moire in your 4k footage yet? This is 4K gx85:

Nooooo! As someone who videos people who wear clothes quite a bit this is a massive pain in the arse. I find with the gx85 big patterns will moire at a distance, smaller ones closer, and closer still the weave of the clothes becomes problematic. was this 1080 slow mo? or 4K?

I bought a nikon 5300 because the dynamic range was close to my d800. This was how I discovered dxo marks were a big fat waste of time. In fact I'm sure there is a better metric that could show the how noisy the shadows are when the highlights are just blowing out. -
I had a mate that used to write for a camera mag. Panasonic used to take them hither and thither and wine & dine them. I'm sure they would've got corporate blowjobs if it was de rigueur. I'm pretty sure that journalists would need to declare such things, but blog writers? Youtubers? Keep doing what you do Andrew, its extremely rare and refreshing. ANd the od add or affiliate link on here would not phase me in the least. BTW same mate applied for a writer's job at DPREVIEW. He was editor of a camera mag. The job in question was unpaid. Unpaid! Classy.

thanks @Vesku awesome to see that practically demonstrated! RE the 4:4:4 thing. You absolutely want this if you are doing anything other than showing video on the monitor. 4:2:2 will make text and interface stuff look horrible. thats why referring to rtings is so good - as they will only have 4:4:4 TV in their selections for use-as-monitor. Dont understand why philips is the only manufacturer with a 40" monitor. I'd love to see LG's DCI 4K at 38+ inches

when you're that close to a big monitor the edges of the screen would surely be approaching the viewing angle limit of VA?? Wouldn't they be darker?

so that samsung had a VA panel, so I've decided to wait till the Sony X850D (x8500d in aus) comes on sale somewhere. IPS, 120hz, and much better gamut and HDR. Downside: the smallest version is 55". The x8000d 49" is also IPS. The other option is a philips 4k, Philips BDM4350UC 43" IPS with 100%Srgb. I think this may be why I rejected the idea previously (as thE LG has 99% Adobe RGB). But 100%srgb is great compared to the TVs. Its only 8 bit panel, though whereas the IPS TVs seem to be 10 bit.

I'm saying the monitor would be huge - compared to what I'm (or mostly people would be) used to. Yes I figured pixel density would be about the same as I've got at the moment with a 2560 wide 27 inch. But that LG is 50% higher. Ho Hum

kaylee look at the link in the original post. it'll lead you back to a page all about tv's as monitors. the one I mentioned is the cheapest smallest one available but the 6000 series goes up to 70" I think. I recon a 40" tv on your desk probably wouldn't need ui scaling. it'd be yuge Since writing this I saw a review of the LG 32" 4k dci monitor with 99.9% adobe rgb and thse extra 200 ish pixels and its twice the price and now I dont know what to do. :p

Was thinking of using it for the program window in premiere, and keep a smaller colour accurate monitor for doing grading and whatnot (and for lightroom and PS). is this a totally stupid idea? (I currently have 2560x1440 27" monitor, and just think that's too small for 4K).

Well dji have solved the issue by literally thinking outside the box. I wouldn't mind a totally stupid looking camera that could should 4K raw...

its slightly bonkers that a drone manufacturer is pushing the camera tech envelope more than the camera manufacturers. You need certification to fly the inspire in australia, so it's off my radar for now, but if I had it it would be a no-brainer. Next phantom could well have raw vid. Helloooo... Nikon.... wakey wakey.....

That ship has sailed, the genie has left the bottle. Everyone (at least in Australia) calls them drones ? Magic has 28mm ish equivalent lens. P4 20 mm. This is the only thing that has left me even vaguely considering the p4. But I've decided to go magic. Too many other plusses, and I prefer the look of the video too.

oh just the snippets of 4K that have been posted ( think they're all on this thread). To my eye it looks a bit more organic than the gx85, but its early days

Sorry should've specified: G80/85. Everyone is saying g80 and gx85 will have identical video, but from what I've seen this is not so... maybe @andy lee can confirm;)

ive seen no sign of the moire i found on the gx85 in the clips i've seen so far. Would love to see some 1080/60 footage

That's a ton of great info. Listen to that man! :). Don't be perturbed if you can't afford that kit, you can still get amazing quality with lesser kit. But I'd agree 4k is key. If you don't have a monitor you can use an old PC monitor or TV. I've got decent sound out of this: http://tascam.com/product/dr-08/reviews/. On location even, but you need some judicious work in audition, and it's foibles are hidden for me with music. There's a super cheap mic here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ecs0GWaPtto and that guys channel is worth having a gander at. But If you have the budget, and you know you're going to use the kit, buy quality, buy once.
