well I think they were a bit conservative with their moire suppression THe d5500 on the other hand is a lot softer than the d5300, presumably softened to reduce moire as it too lacks an AA filter (and I think the 5300 had one). THe stills from the d5500 are fantastic. THe video, not so. I'm very much wanting a grown up video camera at this point. My rx100iv is the closest thing I've got to being usable in all modes, but its usability is also poor. I wish blackmagic would do something with its sensor.

I tried in photoshop and in premiere, I used several techniques that I've used before but it none of them really cut the mustard. So I found a frame that was slightly out of focus (no moire) and animated that over the chap. He was pretty stationary, it mostly works :D

Despite the moire thing, I got sucked into using the gx85 on a few shoots - love the picture I'm getting out of it and then this... Yep a whole day of this moire-tastic shirt to deal with. Almost be quicker to go reshoot. There was no clue in the viewfinder that this was happening either - the moire is so fine. I think this is up there as the worse that I've seen. and this is from the 4K image. will be looking at this closely on the g80

Looks like its got quick release on each axis - nice. I was thinking of getting the pilotfly h2, this one is very similar, but first gen. Not sure it offers much over the h2 apart from $150 cheaper, but pilotfly have pretty decent support whereas I know nothing of tilta. I wonder how heavy it is?

I noticed moire on both non native and native lenses. I still think its a great camera, just not for me: I need that 50p (or 60p preferably). I hope the gh5 will have 60p 4k.

Re moire: This is 1080 50p. For most people this situation will arise infrequently. You're right that looking at the 4K version at 1:1 there was virtually none.

I got some eye watering moire today on a wicker basket in my bedroom. Not so bad in 4k, but exactly the scenario I'm likely to encounter when shooting 1080. Which makes this not the camera for me Love the 4K image on faces and landscapes, but I got it for real estate vids. I'll keep the lenses though, and probably sell the body on ebay, and see if the rumored G80 has less moire (and 5 axis!). Its surprising as the sony rx100 has such a great image in 1080, 4k and 250fps - and better control of noise to my eyes. Wonder how sony can do it in such a small camera?

Well bugger, I just turned the ibis off and on again and it's started working. I'll have to keep an eye on that. Probably means that the video is a poor gauge of its stabilisation:)

First impressions, some good, some not so. Not sure its the right fit for me. Just taken it spin. A few things: so I'm stuck to 50p? Not ntsc switchable? Is there a way to get it to display the shutter speed when You're in A or P mode? I see in M its happy going down to 1/25th at 25fps. I want to avoid that 360 degree shutter angle! So do I need E-stablization on to get any stabilsation in video? My custom profile is set to -5,-5,0,-3 for C,S,NR,Sat. I did a custom curve too with +1 shad and -3 highlight. looks quite nice. will post a vid shortly

whilst I'm waiting for it to arrive... I have an original speedbooster, how much advantage is there to the new one? I used to find the 11-16 tokina on the gh2 was super wideorooni. I calculated it will be equivalent to a 17mm full frame (11x2x1.1x0.7). Does that sound right? I cant think of many fast ultra wide apsc lenses to adapt. I love the effective f2 of the tokina, but would also love a 14mm equivalent. (Which means 8-9 mm apsc). Batteries: Bugger I forgot to buy extras. Any ebay ones OK? Hows the battery life? Can I power it off usb? Any other bits and bobs I should get?

Ok good to know especially as I just bought one :). Got a deal in Australia with 12-35 and 45-150 lenses and 25mm 1.7 thrown in for free. Expecting these lenses to be kit lens tastic, but may use when I need auto focus.

Anyone used the gx80/5 and Nikon d53/5500? How does the dynamic range compare? And how's the 1080 60 on the Gx (Sorry if this has been covered already read the fist and last 8 pages but not the 20 or so in between )

@liam, it's got to go on a handheld gimbal, so small size is a thing. @andrew thought the 1080 60 was so-so on the gx85? It's tempting, and will go with my almost definitely gh5 unless Nikon surprise me

No focus aids, or exposure aids, not able to change aperture in live view, auto focus hit and miss, no af microadjustment. No high bitrate option...

I had a 6000 for a wee while found the 60p a bit meh. Yes 4k downsampled would be nice but need that 60p. Bmmcc would be nice but ISO limited and small sensor. So 6300 is a possibility. What's the 60p like? Is it moire tastic? I have rx100iv, love that it's usable and lovely in all its modes and I'm used to menus and slowly getting used to its colours

Ive grown to love the look, love the dynamic range and small files. Hate the usability. Anything out there in similar price bracket that has decent 1080 60p, 4k a bonus not essential. Have used gh4, seems like dynamic range suffers and 1080 not nice. (Or is that idiot user error?). Also need it to be usable at ISO 1600-2000

So h.264, and dnxhd/hr only go up to 4K, h.265 is still not widely accepted (and specifically for me no good), prores goes up to 8K, but no native export on windows. I've been playing with cineform, but still only getting 2:1 compression compared to the source jpegs that were saved at 100% quality. a 20 second clip is 5gb in #4 quality. (At 100KBps upload that would take me 14 hours to upload Holy shit! Yay for the neoliberal idiots who borked our internet upgrade). The other problem is I cant play back the resulting files. Do you need to install the cineform codec in windows to get playback? If so, from where? THe h.265 I exported at 300Mbps was 280mb. Are there any formats out there that will give a result between h.265 and cineform?

edit: well not sure if its because I'm remote desktopping or a problem with my system, but cant get scratch to open (I click it, nothing happens, no process is task manager) and prelude wont preview clips (I hit play and nothing happens). Some head scratching here...

Hmm so with kyno you cant search all your media? (like you can with lightroom?) Ho Hum. I just downloaded acdsee. Its a bit retro, but actually supports h.265, not DMX though (but I've only got a handful at the moment). You can tag and keyword, and build catalogues and smart catalogues. With my photography background its very familiar, but I probably should check out prelude too. (Just hope it's search is better than the one in premiere).

Nope didn't think about prelude. I always saw it as a logging program rather than a dam, but maybe it'll do for now. I agree the CATDV website looks like its from the 90's, I did find pricing though. the simple version is $99 USD, which is fine (if it does what I need). The pro is $450 ish which I wouldn't stretch to.
