  1. How can it be RED for only $1500? $5000 would be more believable.
  2. https://willrobotstakemyjob.com/27-4032-film-and-video-editors 31% for editors. The more one can automate of that process the better imho. The Premiere audio panel automates a lot of work out for sure and I think that sort of thing will only continue.
  3. You mean taking it into a nightclub and recording the band live at 100db?
  4. It is clearly tuned to be accurate, specifically to 0 and -12db.
  5. It does look a bit too loud. With the mic limiter off the default 0 db internal mic setting sets nominal volume to 0db (say voice at 30 cm). At this setting about half the signal is showing clipped on the meter (and is distorted on playback). All digital recorders work best at about -12 to -18db for nominal levels with peaking above that. This provides maximum dynamic range and is marked on the scale. Setting the GH5 to -12 db sets this average level to exactly -12db. This maximum dynamic range point is marked on the scale as well. But that should be the normal setting with an additional pad below that being available in high noise situations. The +6db option should be +6 from the -12 setting, not +6 from the 0 setting. So those are my two conclusions. Anyway, I have referred this to Panasonic and will relay their response. Otherwise yes, use the limiter. No, don't assume the GH4 is better with a more compressed signal just because it might have, I don't know, more vigourous AGC and a more aggressive limiter. Any mic that handles party level music without distorting at normal levels is not giving you a unfiddled signal, that's for sure. This is more a case of finding out how a real audio recorder works in comparison to the GH4. I have not needed the additional pad available from my external microphone (tascam tm2x).
  6. The 6k photo files have all that. Not sure what you mean by distance though.
  7. So you haven't watched the videos then?
  8. I don't understand the story but the difference on grading is night and day. Fantastic work!
  9. The shadows crushed to black on the suit are particularly distracting, otherwise very impressive. I think it would benefit from tweaking those levels to be compatible with the majority of monitors. The camera manual explains the significance of the luminance options for play back. Shoutout to the actors, magnificent.
  10. As Andrew as pointed out, calling this 360fps is incorrect. Some further clarification: If 180 frames are recorded then 180 can be played back. If conformed to a 50p timeline you will get a slow down of 3.6 times. If conformed to a 25p timeline you will get a 7.2 times slowdown. You can only get more frames than 180 in this case if you either copy frames (which means it does not get visually slower) or create frames where the new frames are interpolated by particle vector mapping and the like (optical flow in premiere). So using 50p to record is probably a waste of time and the title is incorrect. To get 14x slowdown; record 180fps at 25p with a fast shutter (90 degrees?). In premiere right click clip on timeline and adjust the speed to 50% and make sure optical flow is enabled on render. The less motion blur the better for this effect I think. Nice rain drops!
  11. While perhaps not the Kai seal of approval, certainly the Kai best of the bunch
  12. I wouldn't do it. They change the name, same device by the looks. Actually crashed my camera and had to pull the battery. Half worked with one lens, and worse than not working on the others. There are some ones that have a brand reputation for working I think, but otherwise don't touch it would be my sad advice. How did they respond? I think their rep pops in here every so often.
  13. I try and make everything into a joke. At least once a year it's even funny. Make sure you take an sd card and the Voigt along with you if visiting a shop. You'll need to format the card in camera.
  14. @Hans Punk Literally no one else commenting has read your first reply Well, at least I care.
  15. I addressed this pan judder in my answer already. All these shots of his are going onto a 60p timeline... When he interprets the footage to match the timeline what does he discover? No jitter. You can't go from jitter to no jitter if there is a problem recorded into the footage by the camera so there can't be a problem there. Interpreting the footage also slows the pan down. Most cameras in the USA are at 30fps (or so) and 24 is a different thing. There are some curious aspects to his tests for sure but it's kinda hard to comment when it's all on a 60p timeline. He certainly picked a good codec torture test on the leaves. My pans are at 25fps and are smooth unless I move too fast. http://www.red.com/learn/red-101/camera-panning-speed If you have a clip on a native timeline you wish to share I'll have a look. As for the eye fatigue, I'm not a doctor. Sounds pretty weird. I've heard that a certain percentage of people are susceptible to DLP projector refresh rates and see rainbows from the spinning colour wheel. If it's along those lines then you might need a camera with a much higher refresh rate evf. I'm not sure that running with the camera to your eye is a good idea? But it's a beauty. If you can get to a shop you must try it out.
  16. You mention two different things here. The viewfinder refresh rate and the final output. The final output is not dependent on what the evf refresh is doing. The final output smoothness will be dependent on your shutter angle and the speed at which you are moving the camera. Also the GH5 has better readout speed for reduced rolling shutter at 4k than most other options out there as far as I know. In terms of the final files showing jitter, 9 times out of 10 that will be the computer struggling to play huge 4k files and uncompressing the codec. Viewing 1080 files or off youtube will be smooth for those machines. The viewfinder or evf refresh seems to be a very reasonable on the GH5 considering this is a huge oled display. The monitor refresh goes up to 60fps, I don't know if the evf does. Some people may prefer a low pixel lcd with 120fps or higher refresh. I know I prefer the amazing evf image quality. Just as with tvs I'm sure future evf's will be faster and faster. The refresh speed, while somewhat average is still ridiculously faster than the one on the rx100v, that's for sure.
  17. Or to kill a vampire by the looks. Just added a photo speed comment above btw
  18. I think iPhondo moved up to an a6500 recently but prior to that was doing all his videos with the rx100 iv I think. He had a system of little fans he would stick on the back. Also the speed of the continuous photo option is TWENTY FOUR x 20MB raw+jpegs per second with continuous AF >.<
  19. Instructions unclear, I got my dog stuck in a toaster best comment on that video
  20. The epic 27 minute review has landed from Mirrorlessons
