  1. I don't understand his point. He thinks the autofocus isn't worth $2000 and the example he talks about is focussing on the image on the wall behind him. No AF in the world knows your thoughts to change to the background then to you for no reason at all. Mobile app is great tool, love it. Wish was higher resolution. In AFC mode. I'm always in manual mode so never used it. In manual mode you have to drag the 1 area a little bit.
  2. Only more taxing with more concurrent (stacked) video tracks and effects. Duration doesn't affect it. Premiere on PC here and don't have to transcode. gtx780 By tap to focus do you mean afc and then tap the screen? Does that stop it from hunting at that point?
  3. Well the main problem I'll have is finding someone as handsome. Oh I added some extra stuff to previous comment for you to see on batteries.
  4. It's just what you do, expose as far right as you can without clipping the highlights/zebras. Where the histogram lands is incidental. My after-market batteries are being shown up by the GH5. They have to be pretty rigourous to stand up to things. Pana over 2 hrs on first test (but had a problem with screen turning off so I have to redo that one) but 2 of my other batteries are around the 1 hr mark. One battery only managed 5 minutes so pretty funny I didn't spot that earlier with GH4 use. Maybe I did and forgot about it or thought I'd forgotten to charge it. The running sound is quite loud if you put your ear up to the camera. That goes all the time recording or not, ibis on or not. I'm thinking the camera would flatten the battery after 2 hours even if you didn't record anything. Was there a firmware update for the GX85 that made it quieter?
  5. Well when I read it I thought that it was just doing exactly what I am doing. And by the sounds, what you are doing. Most shots are mostly dark, say under a roof shade, but with a bit of sky that is really bright showing in the background. So as most of the image is quite a bit darker than that bit of sky by the time you have brought it down enough to not clip the sky (no zebras) the scene definitely is underexposed a stop or so. So in post you just bring the shadows up. That's the situation I think about. Expose for the zebras seems to result in underexposing more often than not. The point is, this is ok. Or more ok than one would have thought in the case of these new machines. Does that help?
  6. Ah, wondered why the shake. Nice image though. We're actually saying the same thing... Go by the zebras. Sometimes (most of the time for me) this means the histogram will be down a stop or so, sometimes over. So in both cases go by the zebras because once those highlights clip you can't save them. That's what he means (I think) about avoiding being overexposed.
  7. You can drag to the same track to have constant audio all the way through. Easier to put constant power crossover when on same track. But that's probably at the end after cutting them all. Deleting bits and pieces from the timeline doesn't delete anything so Im not quite sure what the others are talking about. Almost a multicam setup isn't it? Bound to be a way of recording active tracks while listening which I want to know about. I've got 2 hours of 5 tracks looking at me on the timeline atm :/ Setting it up without PlurEyes would have been a mission. Why not put everything in the one project? Each shot on a sequence that you nest in the scene sequence which you then nest in the project sequence?
  8. Ohh, got you now. I use manual focus and drag and drop with the AF box. The touch thing works in AFC mode. Never used it. Maybe I should? AF tends to pulse as it finds focus (dfd) so don't use it much sorry. On something else: Panasonic Battery 3:08 to fully charge with stock charger. 2:23:57 recording time. Kastar Battery 00:58:57 recording time
  9. Not sure about tap to focus, maybe I never found that feature on the GH4 or 5. For me I tap the auto focus box, drag it a bit, and release. It focusses on where you drop the AF box and BLAMMO it hits focus every time. If there was a single tap, rather than the drag and drop type of thing I do, I'd be interested to know about it.
  10. It's from April 6. Look back in this topic to then.
  11. Test what? People have tested it to oblivion already, just look back a few pages here. Neistat just did his vlog with a GH5 and it looked pretty nice.
  12. Maybe it's learning how much power is in a battery? The first few times I used it one bar would go after 20 min. (iphonedo said the same thing). But just recording then, no bars went until after one hour. Then at about 1hr 8min the monitor turned off and I couldn't get it going again (while still recording). 30 minutes later the monitor started again as I opened the screen (I had done that before and nothing happened). So... don't know what I did there to turn the screen off. Any ideas? This run I started the camera recording on the new battery without any on time before hand. The Panasonic battery lasted 2:23:57 constant recording (but monitor had not been on the whole time) over the two cards for 5 files. I emptied each card as it filled and popped it back in, live, without problems. Nice bright red flashing light over the card that is recording so no mistakes. The video clips join without any video breaks at all but there is 28 frames of missing audio (about a second) on the end of every clip so the spanning is not seemless for audio. Incidentally, this second of quiet seems to be on every shot I've taken in different formats.
  13. Will do a round of proper testing. It certainly seemed a lot longer than 4 hours. But here's the thing, I come home and have 4 hours available before sleep. So can I get 5 batteries charging in that time? I was short on two fronts. A little too slow on the charger, and too many batteries for single charger. Now I have 3 slots available :D Yes, the indicator works with them. I just noticed though that the AM battery still had 40% charge after being declared empty so I think I'll shutup for a bit until I've done some better comparison tests.
  14. Yup. 5-10 minutes in menus, one 53.9GB file of 10bit vlog, 51:33 duration. LED screen on. Don't think any power saving things are turned on.
  15. Trying the stress test now. I think about an hour actually recording with 5 to 10 minutes goofing off at the start. Will confirm in a few minutes. The battery charge indicator works pretty accurately, yes. I put the link in the other thread about tips. Let me find it... BATTERY CHARGER: the GH5 charger is 0.65A and takes a day to charge one battery so trying to charge 5 is impossible. A charger like https://goo.gl/EM1NyP charges 2 batteries at up to 2A each (3x faster each). It also charge checks very quickly in a matter of seconds, even when not connected to mains. It was a couple of dollars less on sale. I don't have my GH4 charger. It seemed to charge faster but maybe I just didn't get the opportunity to use it much on more than one battery. Ever! The GH4 can go forever. Yes, I got the dual charger as the GH5 stock charger is WAY too slow. Impossibly slow if you (now) have to charge 5 batteries. Also have one of these on the way https://www.aliexpress.com/item/DMWAC8-DMW-DCC12-DMW-AC8-DMW-DCC12-DC-Coupler-AC-Power-travel-Adapter-for-Panasonic-Lumix/32629658872.html
  16. You have no scratch audio recorded with the video? Allows syncing with the main video from the start (right click menu). If there is stretch over time then I've found (quite recently despite having it around for ages) to drop all the files for one scene into Plural Eyes, then import the synched sequence in. The latest version does it all inside Premiere apparently. If you have audio drift I think that's the only way to fix that.
  17. Daniel Peters fixes the live view problem during HFR. Use shutter speed, not shutter angle. Great summary! I think you hit the points I'm seeing exactly!! (Indeed, almost a word for word conversation I just had with a friend here) Especially the ones I've put in bold. I tried the gx85 ibis on my 7.5 rokinon fisheye and it spewed over it. So a bit hit and miss with the non-pana wide lenses. Something to be wary of. Nice video Just to clarify, if you look at what you're quoting, he is not talking about IBIS. That comment is about the additional electronic stabilisation which has a crop.
  18. Is it helpful to the thread? Can I take it to private message? Does anyone care that I'm offended? All good questions. On the actual topic then, my new battery charger is 2A, not 0.6 A. For the GH5 the stock charger is not sufficient or quick enough.
  19. Nicest looking vlog from him ever? Looks like he's running around with a RED. Very nice. You can see how he frames subjects he wants in focus like his face. I see he's still a silly SJW though. If you're on a plane, follow the instructions from the captain and people with security badges. End of story.
  20. Can't believe you didn't make this into a 40 minute video.
  21. I think it's the latest, yes. Needs a u3 card for 4k and can't zoom in 4k. Only vivid and standard. Kinda poor low light. Blows highlights easily. BUT, I think it's brilliant. Doesn't overheat despite heating up like crazy, can recharge or power via usb, best stabilisation on market. Small! It's a sony handycam but so small! Use phone as monitor, connects within a couple of seconds, nice full screen HQ monitoring, long range. I've stuck on some duct tape to shade the lens protector a bit. The chinese 3 sucker mounts are kinda better than the sony one despite not being as long lasting. Action cams didn't impress me at all until the x3000 came along. And the GH4 wouldn't get anywhere near it, that's for sure.
  22. Tips. As far as I can tell the monitor LUT feature is purely cosmetic. It does not change the waveform monitor output from the very compressed range of vlog or help the contrast af.
  23. For stabilisation, yes the X3000 is as good as I've seen. Colour: No, that is on vibrant setting. It has red, green, blue colours and uses them. The other cameras have vibrant settings too, just not used here. DR: ohhh, you're pulling my leg. And the sad thing is I got all the way through this comment before twigging. :p Still worth getting one though, very fun.
  24. iPhondo ran this same comparison https://youtu.be/8WD9C3C2koU?t=9m13s1) The entire lens and sensor system in that camera is floating. Small sensor, DR is not so good. 2) I don't think any camera has as good stabilisation as the x3000, 3) The wide angle lens reduces the visible effect of shake so a fair comparison would be with a super wide lens on the GH5 too. 4) The central handle used would reduce vertical motion but allow sideways motion due to its axis of rotation. A different way of holding the GH5 for walking shots is recommended for testing. Conclusion: There is some noticeable lateral motion from walking picked up by the GH5. As vertical motion is well damped the sideways motion can become obvious sometimes. This effect seems mostly due to a poorly controlled walking style or handle that allows the camera to rotate sideways. As it is, the GH5 IBIS is significantly better stabilisation than many other cameras, including the iPhondo’s actual blogging camera, the RX100.
