Yes but it was a competing brand from the same era making every similar lenses -there was a big competing lens market back then East v West Germany all of a very high standard .....don't forget Zeiss West Germany with their amazing Distagons .People on here are looking for the lenses with character from that era.

Mir's are part of the Russia Kmz lens empire and are copies of Zeiss lens designs as is the Helios = Biotar ......so they are similar to Zeiss Jena ...if you find the single coated version they are more fun to use
-
After the merger there is a period Carl ZeissJena make versions of their lenses like the classic Pancolar and Flektogon -with exactly the same lens Glass and formula ...but they are named Pentacon ....so get looking
-
the Zenit - Tair 135mm f2.8 is in my opinion the finest 135mm ever made - I have one it is an amazing lens the Mir 38b 65mm f3.5 is a great Keiv 88 /Pentacon 6 mount medium format lens the Carl Zeiss jena Flektogon 4/25 is a grea tlens you have bagged some very nice lenses there 206

Meyer-Optik Görlitz Domiplan , Zeiss Jenas and Pentacons are all similar they where competing agaist each other in the 60s and 70s then they all merged into one company My favourite out of this lot is the A.Schacht Edixa - Travenar - A 2.8 50mm this lens just has something about it that makes it stand out , its low contrast , a bit soft but has a certain mojo when used fully wide open an 2.8 - its definately has the FILMIC CINEMATIC look we all like!! its just very good on digital cameras I use it alot on pop videos for shooting mediums and close ups especially faces 94

THE CANON FD LENSES ARE GREAT The Zeiss Jena are also good - there is not much in it really ! different looks for different jobs23
-
the things that are odd about it also add character to it if you want to use it as an FX lens - its soft and has distortion it has bendy corners on full frame and CA and flares!! .......so perfect for an arty fx lens haha!! it is the Meyer Görlitz Orestegon 2.8/29 that became part of the Pentacon family after the merger compared to the 28mm Pentacon .....and Zeiss Jena 28mm (which are the same design) which is a nicer/ cleaner normal lens the are no rules and no schools with lenses - if you like it ...use it!! simple as that !!

Tempted? Should you get a $6499 Canon C300 or wait until after NAB?
andy lee replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
I very rarely ever use the colours straight out the camera - I always shoot as flat as I can and grade it . So for me in 'in camera' colours are not a big deal - its what you do after that counts to make the look you require. I do think the price on this will keep dropping so I would hang fire a bit!! 581 -
the 29mm Pentacon is an odd ball lens and not as good as their 28mm one (not as sharp and more distortion) - I would steer clear of it . get the Zeiss 28mm f2.8 in m42 if you really need an m42 mount its a better lens thena the Pentacon 29mm The best 28mm for the money is the Canon FD 2.8 28mm is superb lens and very very cheap on ebay - I use mine alot on a speed booster on micro 4/3 - it gives you the David Fincher wide look ...... 572575577

10mm is a luxury wide angle lens for specialist shots and at that f stop will be very interesting to see how it looks 547

good to see you using the Tokina 28-70mm its one of my favourite lenses it does have a certain look to it when shot fully wide open and on a speed booster it is insane !! f2 and sharper 645

The Porst 55mm f1.2 is a nice lens but very very soft at f1.2 - I have one and only really use it as an effect lens as it looks like you have a diffusion filter on your lens at f1.2 - so do consider this if you buy this lens stopped down past f2 its very usable 911

Canon FD set - very very good all round lenses and cheap Yashica ML set superb as good as the Zeiss C/Y just alot cheaper Contax Zeiss set - modern lens look great colours and blacks - bloody sharp Nikon AIS set - Killer!! Russian set - Helios Tair Volna etc etc - character tastic and a curve ball really good cheap set is Miranda .....yes Miranda made by Cosina - really really cheap about £15 each and very very good !! edit one more I forgot is Fujinon C - mount lens set - made in Japan bloody good glass - very fast and cheap - need modding to make work on Micro 4/3 but almost Distagon good.....but faster so superb in low light f1.425mm 35mm 50mm 75mm all very small and light but with Fujinons stunning glass in them .Ill remind you that Fujinon make cinema lenses - Alura etc so are very very good....195

the Panasonic 14mm f2.5 is one of the sharperst lenses I own - its insanely sharp ! it out performs all my other wide lenses The Zeiss is an older lens it has no aspheric elements in it like the Panny 14mm does - so its not quite as sharp BUT thats also a good thing as I do find the Panny 14mm needs to be edited in with other lenses carefully as it just jumps off the screen as its so sharp. The Ziess and a speedbooster will have a very nice look to it SO KEEP BOTH!! they have their uses !! 1771

Canon are making a product for their core market - stills photos and 50mp is its selling point on this model ...and people will buy it just for that so this camera is not so hot for video - there are plenty of other options out there - so Im not that bothered ...... I use Canons for stills and Pannys for video ....it works for me 518

yes its a very nice East German made Zeiss Lens and will be great on your g6 it will also sharpen up and become wider on your Mitakon speedbooster it will also be f2 .....which is very usefull In general now I always use a speedbooster and it does a great thing of increasing resolution and sharpness of all lens I use with it and the extra stop is always handy 804

I shot on film for 15 years mainly Kodak Vision Stocks - but some Fuji too - Ive shot on digital for the past 10 years - do I miss it .....errr Not Really but it does have a look you cant quite get with digital - plus its an archival devise too - I have loads of cans of film stored from all my jobs in the 1990s .......You can hold it upto the light and look at what you did....... god knows what will happen when all our hard drives pack up.....we will wish we all had a good archival system then........ ps did I mention shooting on film COSTS A FORTUNE.....I dont miss all that ....negative insurance...remember that hidden cost on every joib... 2225

try looking for one thats 'broken' with autofocus not working etc I got one as a spare one very cheap that way as I will never use autofocus as I dont have any Nikon cameras.....£200 broken
-
dont forget Nikon - the Nikon Nikkor 28mm AI-S is an 8 element lens and THE BEST lens Nikon ever made its almost distortion free! They also do a 24mm AI-S If you waNt a great all in one lens - shoot almost an enrire movie on just one lens - then the NIKON 28-70MM F2.8 IF ED is THE KING ! This is without doubt a killer lens - everyone on this forum wants the - Cinematic Look - well shoot all day with this lens at f2.8 and you have it - Its has a look very similar to Arri Zeiss Master Primes......nuff said!! get one!!
-
yes you are looking in the right place The Yashica ML 28mm f2.8 is a great lens and will match in with your ZEISS C/Y 50mm PS Im also a huge fan of the Canon FD 28mm f2.8 - its very very good and very cheap - so if your camera will take FD lenses its also a very good lens
-
yes its a superb lens - glas is very very good optically - it cuts in well with the 28-70 and 80-200 Nikons I love so much get one !! Even though it is push pull its a good run and gun lens
