  1. Christina I do like your sankor 28mm, Ive not seen that before ! it has a nice look to it plus the Canon 85mm is great too
  2. Metabones , Zhongjy Lens Turbo and RJ speedboosters all make your lens 1 stop faster - thats the beauty of them plus they make your lens approx x0.72 wider the crop factor has nothing to do with the f stop being faster just think anything on a speedbooster is 1 stop faster and x0.72 wider approx thats the basic physics of it all
  3. Im glad you have this - Ive been looking at this and the 24mm they do - can you compare it to the Nikon 28-70mm at 42mm so I can see how good the Zhongyi glass is sharpness at f2.8 contrast bokeh etc thanks Andy
  4. no - apperture goes from f2.8 without speedbooster to f2 with speedbooster 1 stop brighter
  5. mirrorless with a great EVF is the way to go , Panasonic or Sony are the best right now I dont ever use my Canon DSLRs for video any more just for stills DSLRs are dead for video for me - no peaking - glass optical viewfinders not working because you have to put the mirror up for video is a no no !! so you are just stuck with the rear screen that always has to be on ....so it eats battery Mirrorless with and EVF lets you see exactly what you get and your focus is spot on with peaking too I rarely use the rear screen ....so battery life is huge with just the EVF on
  6. shot by Brit Ben Davis (who I saw 3 weeks ago in Manchester shooting Genius with Jude Law on Anamorphic C and E series Panavision lenses ) Marvel have invested very heavily in the Codex Valut system and are fully committed to the Arri Alexa to keep a look to the Marvel Universe and all their films . Trent Opaloch was DP on Captain America 2 and did some interviews about Codex Vault system. There wasnt even a discussion it was you are shoot on Alexa - film was never considered They also shot Cap 2 on Anamorphic C and E series Panavision lenses.
  7. hope to see some finished product soon John - looks like you have been very busy!! if the finished lenses look like the VR then you are onto a winner! there is a whole bunch of ppl about to order the FM module so get something finished soon I like to Buy British !
  8. comurit its a very nice lens the Oly 100mm ! great for head shots - and background separation you should have a very narrow dof with the anamorphic on the front too - try some close up Sergio Leone style face shots with it
  9. Cinegain - World class glass ! get shooting - you have no excuses - it does not get much better than the Nikon haha! I might have to ask you to film me something in Vienna ! ps: just been reading your blog - very nice
  10. the Tokina RMC 28-85 f4 , flares more than the AT-X Pro 28-70mm its alot less contrastly too
  11. the easiest coating to remove it the front element - get some isopropal on a micro cleaning cloth and get busy I just think it will flare a bit more - as for the internal coatings you will have to take the lens apart - Rich is your guy to ask about this as he takes helios to bits and strips off the coatings - ask him.
  12. can you all take a time out and not in fight please ! if you dont want one, leave the guys on this thread who do want one to sort out their deal. just remember in 6 months time these might be worth half the price you are paying now and no one has tried one on this forum yet.

Olympus Zuiko OM 50mm f1.7 does
  14. nFD the later models before they stopped making them and switched to EF mount this type http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Canon-FD-28mm-f-2-8-Camera-Lens-/390977786733?pt=UK_Lenses_Filters_Lenses&hash=item5b0817936d
  15. one thing that does trouble me is micro 4/3 mounts flexing when using a follow focus , the only micro 4/3 camera with a good solid metal mount Ive used sucessfully with follow focus is the GX7 , Ive had flexing on gh2, g6 gh3 The micro 4/3 mount is just very small in diameter compared to other mounts and the up/ down forces the follow focus applies to the lens causies this undesirable flexing on such a small mount. I now dont use follow focus at all on any of my micro 4/3 cameras for that reason. So nice cinema style lenses are a cool idea but in practice I doubt I will be using them with a follow focus.

Helios is a pretty sharp lens even wide open so I guess its not really a match for a Super Baltar then !
  17. lets see what the glass is like - their press release says its based on existing c mount designs!! hopefully not Chinese ones! I have a whole bunch of Japanse Fujinon c mounts they are superb the glass is unreal , the 25mm f1.4 and 35mm f1.7 are great lenses , Zeiss Trevidon equivilants can these new guys make glass as good as Zeiss / Fujinon ? thats the question
  18. I would get a set of Canon FD primes 20 24 28 35 50 85 100 and an RJ speedbooster for Canon FD - micro 4/3 you can shoot a whole movie on them and they are superb lenses , great warm colour tinge superb blacks and very sharp
  19. Tokina 24-85mm f4, '' target='_blank'>> png - straight out the camera no processing at all
  20. we already have a post on these in the lens section of the forum - >
  21. Nice review Andrew ...you have convinced me ! ITS A NO BRAINER!!
  22. Canon FD prime lenses have a very similar look to Carl Zeiss Contax / Yashica primes , very sharp and warm colour tinge to the glass and very good strong blacks , some of the FD primes are optically better than their new current EF mount equivilants , Im not sure where you have read FD primes have a vintage look to them? they certainly dont A set of very good cheap vintage looking primes is the Miranda range - low contrast , grey blacks not crushed solid blacks , not tack insanely sharp and they flare like crazy - the Miranda Brand was made by Cosina in Japan - you can get them in most mounts I have a set they are great of that vintage look. .....and cheap on ebay !! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MIRANDA-50MM-F-2-METAL-LENS-FOR-PEXPAX-PK-FIT-FILTER-SIZE-49-made-in-japan-/281306500707?pt=UK_CamerasPhoto_CameraAccessories_CameraLensesFilters_JN&hash=item417f2c8e63
  23. its a very wide lens - you might want to get something like the Panasonic 14-42mm to go with it so you have asome longer focal lengths covered.
