I did mention earlier in this thread Pentax 40mm f2.8 and Carl Zeiss 35mm Flektogon both work nicely . also the Russian KMZ 45mm f3.5 Mir 26 in Kiev mount/pentacon 6 is a very nice medium format lens - great resolution and has that Russian single coating look / flare - I found this a very nice lens for the Schneider.....and its cheap on ebay too. Also the Carl Zeiss 45mm f2.8 pancake lens in C/Y mount has that classic Zeiss pop look to it....a very very sharp combo with the schneider !! there are alot of lens in the 35- 45mm range to use. another nice Russian lens for character is the Mir-1B 37mm, f/2.8 Im sure Rich will be pleased to flog you a FF38 too as thats an option ! mutant Russian optics redone in his style . ps I almost forgot an insanly good cheap lens is the 35mm Fujinon f1.7 (made in Japan NOT FUJIAN MADE IN CHINA ) in cmount (it needs a quick modification to fit a c mount adaptor - BUT its a steller sharp Carl Zeiss Distagon equivilent lens great contrast and colours ......insanley good and fast for shooting outside at night wide open ....

seeing as it already on 15mm rails I will be trying ..... tiffen 4x4 or 5x5 NDs in a Mattebox on the front will cover it will need a knicker to cover the moving join as the FM front extends alot when focusing
-
you can use one with the lips - I certainly wont be! no way ! I have both versions !
-
I use a Tiffen 4x4 non rotating polarizer in my arri matte box for shots that have glass in them, like filming through a window to remove the glare http://www.tiffen.com/displayproduct.html?tablename=filters&itemnum=44POL
-
lets be realistic its not going to be ideal having the end of your lens with a lip stopping it fitting flat with the end of the FM adaptor they might say its fine but have they actually tried it for real its going to make a differance to the focusing if the lens is not flush. its pure physics its going to make a differance . the Schneider II and Isco and Sankor gold anamorphic lens all have flat ends I would stick with them ..

yeah ..get your dremmel out!! chop the lips off!!

12,000 iso is well hot!! I never shoot over 1250 iso I think you are asking alot for 12000 iso to be 'clean' on any camera not just a Sony use a faster lens and lower iso setting its nothing to do with 1/50 shutter just very very hot iso
-
I do think you will have trouble with this first version of the Schneider as it has lips top and bottom and the knurled knob on the front for focus the second version of the Schnieder is the current version it has a flat front and allen key hole to adjust focus.......no lips
-
there are 2 versions of the Schneider the first one has a knurled knob on the front to adjust focus and a metal lip top and bottom I think you will have problems with this lens on the adaptor as the lip will stop it fitting in the end of the adapter tube the second version Schenider made is the current version they are still selling new right now it does not have the lips top and bottom on the front and it now has an allen key hole to adjust focus the front of this lens is totally flat - NO LIPS make sure you have the right version....... optically both lens are the same - same glass

yes and they screw with your image as you rotate them , yes it knocks off light but it also alters the way light falls on the objects, particularly shiny objects in your image as you rotate it , so there is no uniformity to shots at one setting and shots at a different setting , plus it induces lots of nasty atrifacts and fringing so I never use vari Nds !!!
-
looks bad , 16000 iso is very very high , I've never shot anything over 1250 iso in all my professional career !! thats a very hot setting! try lowering the iso and using a faster lens as a work round for this problem
-
Schneiders are superb , the sharpest anamorphics out there ! My favourite lenses ....I was banging on about these years ago ! they are that good . I like to use the Pentax 40mm f2.8 behind mine and Carl Zeiss 35mm Flektogon both work nicely . the Iscos are also very good you can fit the Olympus x0.7 wide angle adapter on the front of the isco very nicely here is my BlackMagic Isco rig http://www.eoshd.com/comments/gallery/image/180-tecnoir-blackmagic-anamorphic-cinema-rig-lores/ ps I shoot outside at night at 2500k as this makes mine flare more blue under lights at night , nicer bluer streaks
-
2 polarizers = a vari ND its the same thing thats what a vari ND is , it's just 2 polarizers rotating against each other.

yes the rubber parts fell off my Canon 550d too so I just bought new replacements off ebay - stuck them back on with evostick ....it works ok Silicon jacket will move around and stretch as its not secured to all the body .....IMHO

the market will dictate their fate , there are now so many options for 4k and only more will appear over the next year . -
eer ....no thanks ....way too bling for me haha!!
-
thanks for pointing this flaw out Tosvus its good to know about it - I'm interested to see more on this as I was considering the 35-100mm 2.8 just for its OIS ...I may not get one now .....
-
just a note: - I see you are doing these tests in ex tele mode? that makes the problem x2 worse as you are making the lens x2 longer doing this most people will not be using ex tele mode to shoot video ....just a thought can you do a test in normal filming mode not ex tele to show how bad the gitter is normally when filming big thanks Andy

Arri goes 6K 65mm with the Alexa 65 at CINEC in Munich
andy lee replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
Nice one Arri - the logical next step up for them. they have decided to release their own sets of rehoused Hasselblad medium format lenses (Made by Zeiss from recollection) 24mm T4.8 28mm T4 35mm T3.5 50mm T3.5 80mm T2.8 100mm T2.2 150mm T3.2 300mm T4.5 50-110mm T3.5-4.5 Mathew Duclos has added a pic of them here http://matthewduclos.files.wordpress.com/2014/09/line_05-e1411327451426.jpg?w=700&h=362 well the price of good Medium Format lenses just went up........I've been banging on about these on this forum to you all as they are superb especially the Carl Zeiss Medium formet lenses .......get buying .....Hasselblad, Pentax, Mamiya and Russian KMZ Kiev lenses everyone should have a Zeiss 80mm f2.8 Biometar - one of the classic best lenses ever made IMHO!! This camera is rental only from Arri so its serious film kit only - but if it ignites people to use medium format lenses on their cameras then thats good ! you will be suprised how good they are......and still quite cheap on ebay !! -
12800 iso is very very high for night filming , take this down to 1250 iso I dont shoot higher than that ever at night , and stop down to f2 this will improve things alot , Rich is right you are way too hot with your exposure so this will lead to issue like this - less is more as they say !!
-
it uses ED glass elements not aspheric elements the 24mm f1.7 - that sounds good to me as it will have a more cinematic look rather than the fully mega sharp aspheric clinical look of panny and olympus lenses
-
24mm 1.7 is a useful standard lens on micro 4/3 Im interested , these guys make the Lens Turbo speedbooster which is a great piece of glass so Im sure these will be top notch optics too this is a good price

Experiments in Super Wide Anamorphic CinemaScope 2.35:1
andy lee replied to JohnBarlow's topic in Cameras
Ive been slaping Century Optics wide angle adaptors on the front of my Anamorphics for many years now that wide look is very nice to get . I pesume this is your Rectinascope you are using here? you have not said what it is? -
nice video - he's repeating what I have been saying for years - use hard NDs as vari NDs suck in my opinion!! they mess with your image too much for my liking so I never use them Tiffen hard NDs are the best in my opinion worth the money for sure . with ND 2, 4, 8 and 16 you have it all covered
