  1. you can stack Tiffen NDs with absolutely no issues - they do this on Hollywood films in industy practice . its the only way if you want to shoot outside in daylight like I do at f2.8 wide open - sometimes I need ND 24 + to get the correct exposure , they only way to do it is with ND 16 +ND8 stacked ....it works
  2. go watch all the Tony Scott Directed films as he shot almost always on the long end of lenses often with x2 extenders , Top Gun , Days of Thunder and my Favourite for long lenses - the Taking Of Pelam 1 2 3 (the remake not the DP Owen Roisman original classic) that gave his films that fast style , long lenses are great for movement shots also watch all the Sergio Leone Dollar Trilogy with Clint Eastwood - (he used and Angenieux 25-250mm f3.8 to shoot the entire movies the odd shot on fast primes at night but 90% on that one Angenieux ) long lens extreme closes ups where Sergio's trade mark he shot 2 perf Techniscope on spherical lenses. I prefer long lenses any day to wides !! long lenses are alot more cinematic looking . harder to use creatively as you need very good sturdy rigs for them, as you cant just hand hold these and expect it to look nice!!
  3. thanks for clearing that up Brian , as the man who designed this technology and took it to market I have to say its an incredable product one of the best things developed for cinematographers in the past 10 years!

yes I have done alot that mainly if I'm wanting to reduce glare reflection on glass - car windows , building windows etc I shot some scenes in LA earlier this year where the actor was in car and in bright daylight reflecting off the windscreen , The CPL stopped the glare reflections the NDs kept the exposure correct....be aware the CPL will also act as an ND and reduce the exposure on top of your NDs , so adjust for that if necessary

Canon EF mount is a useful format to have as it will adapt to other cameras if you need to - micro 4/3 wont really work on anything else

  7. newly announced 10.5mm Nokton from Voigtlander Micro 4/3 mount f0.95 nice and wide for GH4 and BMPCC users have a look here at the spec, they have yet to post a photo of the lens http://voigtlaender.com/10%2c5-mm-f-0%2c95-nokton.html Andrew if you get time can you have a look at this at Photokina as its a nice lens for Panny/BMPCC users on this forum. Mathew Duclos of Duclos lenses has this pics of it https://matthewduclos.files.wordpress.com/2014/09/img_7331-0.png?w=700

it will vignette on a g6 quite badly - Carl Zeiss Tevidon 25mm f1.4 does not vignette superb lens I use quite a bit - anything wider than 25mm will not work on g6
  9. Tiffen make superb 43mm ND filters so no problems there use them ! http://www.amazon.co.uk/Tiffen-43ND6-Neutral-Density-Filter/dp/B0000AQJAN with ND 2, 4 , 8 and 16 you have it all covered - just stack them when needed
  10. Your Sigma 30mm f1.4 is always a f1.4 max apperture lens - the speedbooster just lets 1 more stop of light in 'optically' it doesn't open your apperture 'physically ' by one more stop - how can it get inside your lens and make it physically 1 stop open wider..... have a read up on how speedboosters work I too have this Sigma 30mm f1.4 its a great lens and works just fine
  11. full on retro dials on the top ! is that an exposure compensation dial +1+2+3?? !! not seen one of those for years my old Pentax ME SUPER had one of those, it's very useful!!
  12. well that does the job doesn't ! very nice I want one
  13. sorry Canon NO EVF= not for me Panny EVFs are amazing I cannot work without one now - hello Samsung ! now that camera does interest me
  14. Tiffen NDs are the best thats all I use , get set of ND2, 4, 8 and 16 and thats all you need for every eventuallity outisde in bright daylight Stack them to get the exposure you need. I shoot at f2.8 outside with Tiffen
  15. yes please love it ! 1 inch sensor - beat that Apple , Samsung . LG and Sony
  16. lets be patient it may happen eventually as they need a 4K camera asap for sales
  17. I'd just be using adapters and all the glass I already have .
  18. with this camera having a super 35mm / APSC size sensor I personally would not be bothered using a speedbooster at all ever . as I want all my lenses to be used at the super 35 'field of view' so I'm in cinema lens territory . I'm not into approximating full frame field of view with a speed booster . So for me this camera is fine as is.
  19. another bombshell ! sounds very good..... nice one Samsung - Canon and Nikon take note!!!! , I wonder what else will be announced this week at Photokina - there will be more suprises!
  20. no one has jumped an made an optically good one thats cheap - the original Canon is still the best one as you said.... or you get the mount changed on your FD lens to EF mount it can be done at a price then you dont need an optical adaptor http://www.thelensdoctor.co.uk/page5.html
  21. wow this does sound a bit of a winner Andrew - does the fact it stops down to f4 at the long end cause you any problems if you have a wide at f2.8 on a clip then your next clip is long at f4 , I would imagine its not a huge amount darker as its only 1 stop down?? any thoughts on this - Im just a constant apperture geek...
  22. this new Focus Module looks very interesting if it does work well with a Schneider then Im very interested , as I like Schneider Anamorphics the best , The engineering and finish on this module look very impressive , just wonder what the price is!!
  23. Canon need to drop something interesting for EOS users ......lets wait and see what they have up their sleeve....

with an ND 2, 4, 8 and 16 you have every combination needed for shooting outside in bright daylight and keeping an f2.8 wide apperture Today I was shooting a WW2 film with Warbirds and we shot f2.8 all day.... 2 cameras set up the same with N16 and ND8 stacked together on the front of the lens = ND24 ....give me the correct exposure... so dont be frightened to stack heavyily to get your narrow dof wide open exposure . Also I dont ever use vari NDs I use Tiffen single NDs and stack them.

no it makes no optical differance , a step ring is maybe 4mm deep so no problems.
