BTW there is no paid for advertising on EOSHD - Andrew does this for the love of filmmaking .....not $$$ off advertisers ....look no banner ads here! -

if you want to use a clear uv as a lens protector - you only need to have this on the lens when you are not using an ND filter or polorizer So I personally would not include it at all in you filter stack as its just another piece of glass to cause flare and internal bounce reflections - this happens when you stack filters - less is more!!

this one is 80-200 2.8 focus stuck = doh!!

which model of Isco Ultra Star Anamorphic lens - as they make smaller integrated lenses and big larger ones too?
-
yes please Andrew - I was wondereing if the next FZ model will have the lens off the FZ200 which is a killer f2.8 constant apperture Leica lens rather than the FZ1000 lens that stops down as you zoom in. Ive seen some footage off the FZ1000 (at Media City in Salford last week while editing there) on a 4k Monitor and it did look very good .....a bit of blocking and noise in the blacks on the footage I saw - I would be interesting to see it put through its paces ....

well it can mean just about anything that doenst look like video shot at f16

E Mount means you can put all that really nice Carl Zeiss E mount glass on it especially the Carl Zeiss Touit range this looks like a very good camera Sony dont mess around . it also has good form factor too for a rig .

World premiere - SLR Magic APO 50mm T2.1 PL mount cinema lens
andy lee replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
sounds very good , I would like to try this against the Zeiss Otus 55 f1.4 which is a no compromise lens that also boasts perfect optical correction eliminates nearly all optical flaws from colour fringes and distortion to chromatic abberrations ....but at a heavy cost £££$$$ This new design SLR sounds very interesting.... BTW Zeiss have just announced the 85mm f1.4 Otus Matthew Duclos reviews it here http://matthewduclos.wordpress.com/2014/09/10/zeiss-85mm-f1-4-otus-reviewed/ also Rokinon (samyang) have announced a new 50mm and a September 2014 ship date. this is the one lens that was missing from their range Rokinon already has 8mm, 14mm, 16mm, 24mm, 35mm, and an 85mm. the 50mm has an aperture of T1.5 and a stunning price of $549 for a cine prime!! this is very good -
yes Bollington , they are repairing a dead Nikon Bourne lens for me

very small light rigs with no lens hoods or matte boxes - propper run and gun hand held stuff!! it does look like the 24-105 L on the front Well it works and is reliable its cheap and a known industry entity even if it is an 'old' camera . the MKII does have a look to it even unhacked that alot of people like - there is life in the old dog yet. -
panny 14mm 2.8 is very good and cheap on ebay - look for a cheap gf2 with one on the front as a bundle on ebay Olympus 17mm 2.8 is also very good the new Sigma 19mm in micro 4/3 mount is killer too !! very very good those are the 2 wide I use - both are rectilinear so no bends lines at the edges . I dont go wider than that as it look unnatural I have a Sigma 10-20mm but it has very bendy edges so does not get used much. ps- the Vivitar Series 1 19-35mm is also rectilear and very good and cheap on ebay its a very useful lens to have

looks like it just needs a clean.... I use a 50% isopropanol 50% water mix for cleaning lenses and tissue paper which I find is soft enough but has just enough abrasion to shift and residue / dirt from the lens without harming it wipe over with a folded pice of tissue with the cleaning fluid - wipe dry with dry tissue let glass dry brush off any residue with a lens brush its should be good to go then this will take you 2 mins to do

new site design looks nice and stylish - my only comment is black text on white is nicer/easier to read

its difficult with short lenses as you need a lens support on your 15mm rods and a cable tie around the lens to hold it steady plus you then need to get the follow focus into position with the gears etc.......its all trial and error for each lens they all have different needs !! and then Nikon is another story as they rotate the wrong way so you need a step gear to reverse it --aarrgghhh!! in the end I just scrapped the whole idea of follow focus on micro 4/3 as it just slowed me down so much, try changing lenses in a hurry on set with actors waiting around ......forget it So now I just use 3 cameras with different lenses on each rig . When I need a different lens...I grab a different rig all set up its so much quicker
-
I have found that a follow focus on micro 4/3 is not very good so I stopped using it years ago the lens mount is very small in diameter and you get movement of the mount as you turn the follow focus and this applies an upward or downward force on the lens , I had to cable tie the lens to the rods and always use lens supports to stop any movement.....so I dont use at any more ..... I was using the Kamera follow focus .

welcome to the forum - I hope someone on here as some ideas for you!

its true they did scrap all the f2.8 stuff the filmed Shane Hurlbut the DOP on the film says so on his web page , it was just too narrow depth of field and they had massive issues pulling focus on the actors at f2.8 on the Canon 5D. Shane says they had to reshoot it all at f5,6 so they had enough focus depth to work with.... dont forget this was 4 years ago the they pioneered the Canon 5D for use on a big movie they had to make all the rigs and kit themselves as it did not all exist like it does now , and they did have focus issues , there are soft scenes in the final film . Shane now recomends you shoot narative stuff on the 5D at f5.6 or below to make sure you get actors faces all in focus.
-
24-105 f4 is superb on the 5dm2 , I do find that 24-70mm f2.8 on 5d is just too narrow dof to be usefull for anything narative with actors - so Im in the f4 - 5.6 region on a 5d for narative stuff so the dof is useful , I would go for the 24-105mm its a great lens is is very very useful for hand held run and gun stuff

Surprise! Sony Alpha A6000 video mode huge improvement

I would get a Panasonic G6 as it produces a better image than the gh2 without having to hack it and you can get a PAL 25p verison off ebay for £250 -
I second what Matt says the G6 has an amazing EVF like noting else I have ever used I have now built new shoulder mount rigs just so I can use the EVF all the time , I never use the rear screen to film with. Focus peaking on an OLED EVF is amazing - I will never go back !!
-
I wasnt asking for your supplier etc I have no intention of ever making lenses !! thats not what I do... - Im just curious as it a serious bit of engineering / design if you have added new elements and focus mechanism - nice one John ! you should be flogging these to serious indie directors and film companies
