Sony A7S 4K full frame mirrorless camera announced Sunday at NAB?
andy lee replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
the Red Epic uses a centre crop off the sensor - you can set different sizes - not sure about any consumer cameras doing this?? any takers? -
I use the Zeiss 80mm with my Schneider anamorphic - stunningly sharp results too! its one of the lenses you can use full frame with anamorphics as most vignette below 80mm on FF

yes I dont like filmimg on Full Frame cameras or if I have to I stop down to f4 max and ususlly f5.6 and below as the narrow DOF gets too much !! I dont like it at all - its like filming in Vista Vision and they stopped doing that years ago The Epic and Alexa are not full frame cameras as you dont film movies full frame x1.6 aspc size sensors are best as you can use proper cinema lenses on them - try adding one of those to a full frame 5D ... you cant. -
its good at f2.8 its one of the sharpest lenses I have plus one of the oldest 1964 !! so its a 50 year old lens!! these are medium format camera lenses so designed to be sharp edge to edge over a 2 1/4 inch square frame !! I shot 2 1/4 negatives for many many years in the late 80's and all through the 90's for stills for record album covers. now if that was a sensor you would all be drooling over it its a huge area to resolve an image over! imagine a 2 1/4 inch square sensor!! so these lenses are very very good!! Zeiss made the lens for Hasselblad if I was buying this new Sony 4k full frame camera anounced today I would be putting Medium format lenses on it as they resolve amazing images !

Carl Zeiss 20mm f2.8 is a great 20mm - with all the Zeiss goodness!! also the Panasonic 20mm f1.7 is a very good sharp small lens
-
its a tiny lens designed for Kiev 16mm film cameras I sold mine 2 weeks ago along with the Tair and Mir that go with it , it only works on BMPCC with an adaptor doesnt not even cover Micro4/3 sensor properly. and forget APSC and Full frame
-
The P6 Zeiss lenses are very good, especially the 80mm Biometar mine is a 1964 version pre zebra with a plastic focusing ring and it is one of the sharpest lenses I own !! its a great lens with alot of character or you can buy the Russian KMZ copy of it the MC VOLNA 80MM F2.8 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MC-Volna-3B-80mm-f2-8-lens-Pentacon-six-Kiev-60-Biometar-copy-Arsenal-/201051218476?pt=Camera_Lenses&hash=item2ecf96222c

the thing that impresses me about Andrew's clip of him filming lenses and cameras on his table, is it is filmed at 640 iso in very low light and it is very very clean I can hardly see any noise , especially in the blacks !! I very rarely shoot above 400 iso on my G6 , I try and keep the iso as low a possible with the A6000 you can shoot 640 iso all night and not worry about any noise..........intestesting -

yes something like that it makes it a versitile lens as the speedbooster makes it x0.7 wider too so if you have a normal dumb adaptor too you can get the best of both worlds out this lens nornal and speedboosted -

Tamron and Ziess are light years apart The Zeiss Varios Sonar lenses are in a different league to other lenses in my book, unreal micro levels of detail and this gives your images a 3d style POP to them they just jump off the screen like no other lens Ive used switch to Zeiss!! please!! the cheaperst lens to get is the Carl Zeiss Vario Sonar 28-70mm in C/Y mount , fully manual and a stunning lens -

this camera opens up a whole posibility that I think has been over looked ..... It is 1.6 aspc crop which is roughly 35mm cinema camera frame size so we are in proper film dof and looks region here. So no excuses there , its the same frame size approx as an Epic and Alexa. The Sony A6000 will take the superb Carl Zeiss Sony Alpha mount Vario Sonar Lenses !! Yes at last a camera worthy of this steller glass The 24-70mm f2.8 would be a killer lens on the A6000 , you could probably shoot 80% of your film on that one lens alone its that good . they also do a 16-35mm f2.8 to cover your wide shots... Zeiss 3d 'pop' ,contrast and colours on a x1.6 camera that is producing a very very clean image is a great proposition for narative film style work. I have been wanting to use Zeiss Sony Alpha lenses on micro 4/3 for ages but they have no aperture control on Panasonic cameras so Im using fully manual Zeiss C/Y mount and Zeiss N Mount Vario Sonar zooms (still with open aperture) on Micro 4/3 Being able to use the Zeiss Sony Alpha Vario Sonar 24-70mm f2.8 on a great small camera .....well the posibilities are endless..... I'm sure it would give a Red Epic and Arri Alexa a good run for the money on image quaility with Zeiss glass .....yes you have less DR but its all how about you use it!! I'm contemplating a switch ........ -
Im a big fan of the Yashica ML primes 24, 28 , 35, 50 and Zeiss Vario Sonnar Zooms 24-85mm and 28-70mm Also the Zeiss 80mm Biometar fits this set nicely similar colours too a must have lens is the Canon FD 24-35mm - killer lens!!

GF3 is a great little camera - I put the Driftwood Quantum 10 hack on it , so it now kicks out 120mb/s nice big files

buy a gear ring without a connector for your lens off ebay -

I am convinced that this FD to micro 4/3 speedbooster is exactly the same one Pascal has bought it is just cheaper from a different seller on ebay looking very carefully at both sets of photos it is identical , every screw every part of it the lettering font etc There cannot be multiple manufacturers of this adaptor just different sellers on ebay selling at competative prices this one is $96.00 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/360844545884?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649

battery life is better than my gh2 (uses the same battery) I have some 3rd party batteries and it tells you the remaining on them too and flashes red when they are low like my panasonic batteries so shop around for ones that work like that
-
yes typo = remote Maxotics I'm still waiting for that gold g6 !! haha
-
g6 is way superior to gh2 in low light gone is all the fizz noise in the blacks Ive swopped from gh2 to using g6 now and the whole camera is much better then the gh2 the screens are superb the evf is amazing cant work without it now the iso's are all alot cleaner now alot less noise focus peaking is great I leave it on all the time now and the remote wifi control of the camera on your iphone is unreal I can pull focus and stop start recording change the iso etc etc all via wifi with the camera 100 feet away on a jib arm ! the panasonic image ap is free and very very useful!! g6 is the way to go

Adapter suggestions for a Minolta MC/D to m43 lens adapter
andy lee replied to shotbyshaun's topic in Cameras
its not one of those wierd mounts that has issues I have 3 different MD adaptors all different makes and they all work fine no issues just make sure you move the aperture lever on the back of the lens to it activates the aperture I jam a piece of plastic tubing in it so it always works -
Im selling a couple of prime lenses (as I have 2 of each of these lenses) this is one of those hidden jems Ensinor 24mm f2.8 in Canon FD mount - lens is as new glass is mint this lens is superb it has a great cinematic look to it strong blacks and great color contrast , does not flare as much in daylight as the Yashica 24mm f2.8 so its great outside - there is loads of great reviews of this lens on the web - its one of those lenses that should have been alot more expensive when it came out. 24mm is a 'standard' lens on Micro 4/3 so its very useful to have as a main lens http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/231194092463?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1586.l2649 X- Fujinon DM 50mm f1.6 , another hidden jem as it gives the Carl Zeiss 50mm Planar a run for its money very fast prime lens with superb bokeh and narrow depth of field , great lens with strong blacks and great color contrast. Comes with a micro 4/3 adaptor so you can use it straight away on GH2 GH3 G6 GX4 BMPCC etc http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/231194107169?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1586.l2649
