these lenses are f2.8 - no aperture so I bought 3 of each lens type one I keep as f2.8 one I bluetac a small plastic washer on the back so its about f 5.6 - for outsside in cloud one I bluetac an even smaller plastic washer on the back so its about f11 - for outside in sunlight with NDs so I just use which ever lens is needed depending on the lighting conditions - this system works well for me also get NDs 2, 4 and 8 for each lens so you can use it at f2.8 with the NDs to keep the narrow DOF I have not ever noticed any issues at Infinity focus with my adaptor - mine does not have an iris in it like Pascals it works fine at Infinity. these lense are cheap $30 each so get 3 of each!!

designed in early 1980s for Pentax 110 camera - (110 film frame size is almost exactly the same as a micro 4/3 sensor so these lenses work superbly on Panasonic cameras as they where designed / optomised for this size.) full frange of prime lenses and one zoom where made 24mm is the 'standard' lens all lenses made in Japan by Pentax superb filmic look off these lenses cheap on ebay (as they dont work on Canon cameras) the 18mm is great for steadycam style shots as it holds focus over a big distance so you can walk around following a subject and not have to refocus all the time (I mean the normal 18mm lens becuse the did make an 18mm panfocus lens too which is a bit softer)

cool go for it!!!
-
yes f2.8 is right on the money !
-
two systems is the way to go I use my Canon for stills with the 24-105mm - that combination just works and Micro 4/3 for video done.... it works

I shot on film for 15 years all through the 90s and early 2000s ......16mm and super 35mm Arri and Aaton Cameras so I never used full frame as a referance we never talked about Full frame so I still dont..... a 24mm lens is a 24mm lens in my head . anyhow the new FD to m4/3 adapter looks great I will be getting one asap thanks for posting this useful info , they also make a C/Y , M42 and EOS to micro m4/3 adapters too with the same glass these are all very cheap and usefull to have
-
a great very stylistic range of lenses for micro 4/3 is the Pentax 110 system lenses small light and very very filmic they are all f2.8 they make the following 18mm 24mm 50mm 70mm 20-40mm zoom I highly recomend you get a full set if you want a very cool filmic looking lens set - very cheap too!! the 18mm is superb you can run around doing steadycam style shot with it , very smooth and light so no camera wobble on a good rig
-
I dont think it terms of full frame as I dont shoot full frame , I shoot m4/3 so a standard lens for me is 24mm and I think forward for telephoto and backwards for wide so 24mm with a speed booster like this is a 17mm in my head, so it wide angle I understand now that you think in terms of full frame - everyone does this different , I stopped thinking full frame when I shoot micro 4/3
-
yes shooting micro 4/3 at f1.4 with the Fujinon 25mm the DOF is less than 1cm so all this talk of people say micro 4/3 cannot have narrow dof is rubbish. these lenses are great on Micro m4/3 for ultra narrow dof Pentax 25mm f1.4 c mount Fujinon 25mm f1.4 c mount Sigma 30mm f1.4 Fujinon 35mm f1.7 c mount even my Carl Zeiss Planar 50mm f1.7 in C/Y mount has a dof of about less than 1 inch ! its all about what lenses you use and how you use them if you run around with a Panny kit lens as just your main lens and film outside at f5.6 and then yes people say 'oh Pansonic doesnt have any narrow dof ' well neither does any camera when you stop it down . Micro 4/3 with the right lenses is superb - its all about how you use it
-
m4/3 for me is great to use its small light and I have a load of lenses to work with , plus the Panasonics have amazing EVFs and O LED screens - built in - I dont need a massive rig to cart around with my Cinefoid EVF attached to it I dont need the V lock Battery attached to my BMCC rig and to carry V lock spares batteries and charger (have you seen the size of these) The work flow is alot quicker and the media cheaper to 32gb Sandick 45mb/s card gives me 2.5 hours recording time I can delete unused shots in camera and I have fully variable Kelvin and alot more control in camera of the image . I can work longer faster and quicker on m4/3 thay why I use it as my main first choise camera , BMCC and Canon are for some jobs if needed.

at x0.71 the focal lengths go the other way - wider so a 24mm becomes 17.mm 50mm becomes 35.5mm etc etc it makes your field of view wider

content is king , its all about how you use it this is my Blackmagic rig , Im very familiar with BlackMagic http://www.eoshd.com/comments/gallery/image/180-tecnoir-blackmagic-anamorphic-cinema-rig-lores/

Fujinon 25mm f1.4 Fujinon 35mm f1.7 both great lenses superb bokeh , sharp wide open and great narrow dof I very rarely shoot past f2 on micro 4/3 most of the time I'm at f3.5 or f2.8 indoors I light for that at f1.4 you have a 1cm depth of field....too narrow for me for narative stuff

you can dial out the color on Pansonic cameras easily to make a very flat profile , Lumix doesnt look video to me quite the opposite its much more cinematic than most other camers I use , its all about the lenses you use and how you use them.

this one http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Canon-FD-FL-Lens-To-Micro-4-3-M43-M4-3-Adapter-GF1-GF2-GH2-GF2-GH2-G2-G3-DC156-/190699589038?pt=UK_Photography_CameraLenses_Lens_caps_hoods_adaptors_ET&hash=item2c6694cdae do not buy the ones with the silver ring , they have tiny screws on the silver ring that rip out with the weight of your lens and my entire lens fell off the front of the adaptor .....not good the one above is well built and works very well.

you are talking about the color profile the GH4 shoots on - there are many to shoot on and Im sure you will find one you like on it, so take that into account when looking at gh4 footage - you dont know always what color profile they shot it on . The new Panasonic cameras have great rich color profiles more like canon camera (gh2 was always a bit flat in color ) Panasonic have now solved that and the g6 gx7 have great color now so dont let that put you off BMPCC is a odd crop factor so you will need super wide lenses for it. also Panasonic cameras have fully variable Kelvin from 2500 - 10,000 Kelvin so you dial in each scene from way cold cool blue 2500 k to warm rich orange 10,000k and anything in between BMPCC just has presets daylight , cloudy , tungsten etc you cannot do that on it The fully variable Kelvin on the Pansonic is invaluable I could not work without it. for instance I shoot interiors with Practicals at 4000k this warms up the skin tones and makes them rich and very cinematic ....in camera.

auto white balance is useless you are letting the camera control one of the most important parts of filming .....the color temperature you are filmimg at - this dictates so much of the look of the clip you are filmimg - is it cool blue cold or warm rich orange or any combination in between all this can be set manually I personlly set the Kelvin to fit the shot by dialing it in manually until I like the look of the scene , dont use presets as even these can look odd under certain lighting conditions I shoot interiors with practicals at 4000k rather than 3200k (tungsten) as this gives a warmer look to skin tones. I shoot outside in City streets at night 2500k as this gives a cool blue /green look that reminds me of Bourne films etc If you have a Panasonic camera gh2 gh3 g6 gf3 gx7 etc you can dial in the Kelvin manually - between 2500k and 10,000k this function is invaluable
-
yes the FD zooms are very good the 28-85mm f4 is nice too
-
the Panasonic G6 and GX7 have much cleaner iso than previous older Panasonic cameras including my hacked GH2 Panasonic have really done a superb job on the GX7 and G6 the image they produce is very detailed clean and very little mosquito noise in the blacks roll on the G4 ..... I cant wait to try one !

I depends on what you are shooting and what lenses you are using. what style of filming you are doing Dirctors like Paul Greengrass , Kathryn Bigelow shoot their films mostly hand held (Bourne, Captain Philips, Hurtlocker Zero Dark Thirty etc) and it has a look and feel that is very real documently style , you are in there with the Actors. Directors like David Fincher and the great Alfred Hitchcock always shoot locked off on tripods (legs) and they have a more formal approch to film making and you can see that style in House of Cards (Netflix) Girl With the Dragon Tattoo , The Game , Fight Club etc Vertigo , North by Northwest etc etc The camera does not move much and the action is framed alot of the time around a 'standard lens' if you are shooting hand held get a shoulder mount rig to stabalise out your shots as actually holding the camera in you hand induces rolling shutter skew as your hand gitters about , so I awlays shoot on a shoulder rig for my hand held shots. (even with IS lenses)
