I have alot of Minolta lenses I use on my g6 - I do like the 45mm f2 prime for shooting close up head shots its fast and sharp ! nice bokeh wide open

the natural evolution is to get better and better cameras and glass , we all do it , so being aware of whats out there and if it can work on your camera is worth knowing in my book! there is alot of useful shared infomation on this forum , hopefully everyone can get someting form this to help their film making . I was looking at the Arima on the Arri stand last Novemeber at BVE- they gave me the full demo on it , its a nice camera ! Im not gonna buy one but its useful to know its always there to rent for a job, same with Cooke lenses , I have rented them for jobs along with Arri/Zeiss lenses I have no intention of buying them outright , but seeing how they perform on Andrew's test with a 4K (maybe Panasonic ...I hope so) camera is worth knowing!!

exactly Andrew the 3D look is incredable ! it makes your image jump off the monitor , Im sure your Cooks will have the same look to them When I first shot with the Zeiss I was amazed at the level of clarity and detail compared to other lenses ,

if any of you want 'micro-contrast level of detail' at affordable prices I highly recomend the Carl Zeiss 24-85mm Vario Sonnar in Contax N Mount - aspheric elements and insane detail and sharpness as good as any PL mount Cinema lens I've used and a fraction of the cost too. It is a very useful zoom range on a Micro 4/3 cameras. I look forward to reading Andrew's Cook review soon , those 3 lenses have very usable focal ranges

I tried this at the BVE show last Novemeber and its a superb camera , fits nicely on your shoulder, has a rail on the bottom to move the shoulder pad and a rail on the top to move the evf , its very versitle

Panasonic 14-42 is image stabalised and has aspheric elements it is very very sharp , small and compact dont be put off by the term 'kit lens' it is a very good lens and its cheap I like it alot especially outside , I use Cokin ND4 and ND8 on it depending on how bight the day is they brought out a MKII version of the 14-42 and its even better it sells for about £100 + on ebay

and the Arri Amira has only just been released in November 2013 , so Red will take even more pressure this and next year once that camera gets into productions too. I had a play with at at BVE trade show last November and its a superb smaller lighter version of the Alexa David Fincher is a loyal RED user so when we see his next film that may be on RED

looks superb - nice one!! great cinematography G6 is a superb camera , small, light and packs a punch way higher than its price

Global shutter - yes please - Japanese companies please take note and hurry up with Global shutter on your DSLR's and mirrorless cameras as I like to pan L-R without buildings leaning over everytime to do this!!

When Olympus make a 24/25p version of this camera it will be the perfect camera for stealing shots hand held with no rig outside , especially in city centers, you will just look like a tourist and be able to film without any bother from passers by!

what happens if you use a polorizing filter Andrew? does that help reduce this problem at all? worth a try!

PAL region is 25p so film everyting at 25p and 1/50 second shutter. Pick a picture profile you like the look of - I use 'Natural ' if you are outside in the summer you will need some ND filters ND 4 & ND8 , I use Cokin get a set of descent prime lenses 14mm 20mm 24mm 35mm 50mm 85mm and a good constant aperture zoom the Canon fd 35-105 f3.5 is very good also the Canon fd 24-35 f3.5

just seen American Hustle and they do love those steady cam shots , its a superb film!! very rich colours in the grade too ...go see!

I'm going with 4K too , I'm sticking with Panasonic as they make great cameras that just work , plus most of my glass is optomised for m4/3 So roll on gh4 or what ever they call it

I like both versions , the original is gritty and real - lots of teal and amber shots too Finchers is darker (in lighting terms ) and beautifully shot by Jeff Cronenwerth , with absoultely no teal and amber shots at all !! a first for a recient Hollywoood film ! they are obsessed with Teal and Amber in Hollywood.

my gf3 is good for stills but not as good as my g6 which very good ......almost as good as my canon gf3 is a superb little camera but only auto iso , there is no manual iso setting on it you can get a g6 on ebay now very cheap

you have to mod the back of it remove a collar and replace it with a piece of plastic cut off a 35mm film canister to replace it now it fits on a m43 adapter and will hit infinity focus there are tutorials on the web i followed its easy to do took 5 mins but for $40 its a stunning lens very sharp wide open , I sold my f0.95 as I never used it much , f1.4 for me works well at night at 400 iso the g6 is very clean at 400 I was using the Pentax 25mm f1.4 and the Wesley 24mm f1.4 both c mount before for a few years now but I just got the fujinon and its a better lens wide open alot sharper

there is one called fujian (a chinese lens not japanese Fujinon) 25mm f1.4 on ebay its basically the same lens as the SLR magic and cheaper $20 with c mount adaptor on ebay try that first

No but its cheap and arty looking ...it has swirly bokeh

all of Mark's threads get out of hand as he just likes to argue -with anyone about anything ! this forum is about digital cinematography its becoming a teenage tit for tat forum rapidly which is very sad to see happen.
