Ive been usinng a Fujinon 25mm f1.4 c mount lens on my g6 it is superb very very sharp wide open , I use it for shooting at night on streets in the city . It is fast small and very cheap on ebay - I highly recomend it to you , I just picked up 2 off ebay for $40 each!! at f1.4 fully wide open it has less than 1cm depth of field and great bokeh and colours too , it is also good for portraits / head shots too http://forum.getdpi.com/forum/4-3rds-cameras/13547-czj-tevidon-versus-fujinon-cctv.html#post176111

the screen and evf on the g6 I find very good and usable the peaking is very useful I leave that on all the time now - so I hope these elements get carried over to the gh4 and they are just as good but 4k versions

Im interested in trying this adaptor as it does sharpen the middle part of the image with the edges going softer - which I dont mind for arty music videos - that look works for me . they are now down to £79 quid on ebay UK

another point to note is some of these zoom lenses with Aspheric elements are sharper than most prime lenses Yes zooms with aspheric elements are very very sharp and I tend to use them alot as a 'variable prime' , meaning I dont go zooming them in and out I just use the zoom function to frame the shot how I want it if you get these 3 zooms you can cover 90% of you shots Panasonic 14-42mm kit lens Canon FD 24-35mm f3.5 Canon FD 35-105mm f3.5 That takes you from 14mm to 105mm (full frame equivilant 28mm- 210mm) then maybe get a fast f1.4 prime for night shooting and your bokeh madness arty shots the Fujinon c mount 25mm f1.4 is very sharpa nd very cheap on ebay

Yashica 24mm f2.8 stunning sharp Carl Zeiss Distagon equivilant lens made in same factory in Japan just alot cheaper - use this as your standard every day lens its very good !! Carl Zeiss Vario Sonnar 28-70mm - unreal lens very very sharp - aspheric element Canon FD 24-35mm f3.5 L SERIES - amazing go to all purpose lens , very very sharp has aspheric elements Canon FD 35-105mm f3.5 very very sharp constant aperture zoom - great for Paul Greengrass /Barry Ackroyd Bourme Ultimatum type zooms - (the zooms on the black background on the vid above are this lens) Canon fd 50mm f1.7 - sharp cheap canon fd 28mm f2.8 - bloody sharp cheap !! Sigma FD fit 24mm f2.8 - has nice colours and is cheap very sharp too! I do really like the Panasonic kit lens 14-42mm - its very very sharp has aspheric elements I do use it alot for outside shots with ND 4 or ND 8 on it a killer insanly sharp lens is the Carl Zeiss N Mount 24-85mm - its is one of my favourite lenses and is rediculously sharp - Im talking PL mount cinema lens sharp - makes the G6 look like RED EPIC with the fine detail it renders - we use this lens alot Carl Zeiss Biometar 80mm f2.8 in pentacon 6 mount- mine is 50 years old !! 1963 model - but it is a superb portrait lens I use for head shots amd close ups - Razor Sharp!!!! (head shots on vid above are this lens) Panasonic 14mm f2.4 very sharp and cheap too - nice wide lens - great on street scenes in cities. my latest new toy Fujinon c mount 25mm f1.4 - very sharp wide open superb for night street scenes where you have neon etc I very rarely shoot past f2.8 on the G6 as the dof gets too narrow for me , at night I like the f1.4 Fujinon but as a whole I shoot alot of f2.8 - 3.5 on set ,as DOF is usable but looks cinematic. Im not into 5mm dof its unusable for me , so dont be afraid of buying f2.8 and f3.5 lens for the G6 - remember if you are outside you will be using NDs and down at f5.6 if cloudy and f8 - f11 with ND4 in the sun , so your fast lens is working slower anyhow due to the light. On set you just light the set for f2.8 or f3.5 and you can hit marks Ok with Actors its usable for me.....

so has this Carl Zeiss Visionair 109mm f1.6 projection lens got a iris built in? some projection lens do have an iris - which is very useful for us recyclers onto dslrs

I was talking with Van Deman in Novemeber about then rehousing some Schneiders for me , as mine work but well but its all tape spacers and helicoids , heath robinson style . they shoot superb but look like Frankenstien lenses Yes the glass is amazing in the Schneiders, you can fit small iris on the back of the projection lens and it works well.(off ebay iris) I mainly use them for head shots and close ups as the bokeh is insane and at f2 its a 1 inch dof Aslo you can use Magna Com with them so you can turn them into x 0.7 wider or x 0.7 longer and the Schneider Magna Com is virtually optically transparent - I cant tell any difference so you end up with Cinema quality glass at a tiny price!! ps John how much are those SK Cine Xenons hey look superb !! I want one!! or two !! haha!
-
also the long 120mm Kollmorgan is very good bokeh and warm colours too
-
cool do try the Schneiders as you already have them the bokeh is superb
-
just get 2 x Canon 5D MKIII 's and 2 xCanon 24-105mm L series lenses they will let you shoot all you need to for Yoga videos and all easy to manage for editing as you dont want massive workflows
-
its his blog he can write what ever he wants!!
-
you should try Schneider projection lenses John they are stunning I have a 65, 70 80 90 and 100mm all modded to work on Micro 4/3 with heliciods they are as good as any PL mount Cinema lens and very cheap!! all f2 fully open you must have a bunch of these knocking around off the back of your Schneider anamorphics - give em a go

Philip Bloom has done a huge amount to push DSLR cinematography to the masses , He writes great reviews too he likes certain things more than others thats human nature. Have you got your Blackmagic camera yet Mark? I know you are a big Blackmagic fan.

I shot and Directed this pop video on a Panasonic G6 with Zeiss Lenses you can see how sharp it is!!
-
everyone else understand its very simple Mark. you have to use a different lens for each sensor size to get the same field of view in this case 50mm Full frame we where talking about how to get that same field of view with different sensors and lenses its just simple Maths that's all. I do give up .......good bye
-
that is approx 50mm on a Full Frame Camera, it quite clearly states that ...read the whole sentence instead of just the first line Mark..... everyone else undersands that this is getting boring now
-
the G6 produces a very very sharp image better then my hacked Driftwood GH2 at 170mb/s please take into consideration you are looking at highly compressed frootage on youtube/ vimeo and they do not state what lenses they are using , a soft lens on a Red Epic will produce a soft image I use Carl Zeiss lenses on my G6 and it is razar sharp and holds up well against Red Epic footage when in the edit suite
-
my favourite lens I use on all jobs is a 50mm Full Frame Equivilant lens so the Canon 5d it is 50mm on my apsc 550d it is 35mm (as I dont have a 32mm lens like Roger Deakins!) on my micro 4/3 Panansonic G6 its 25mm I find it gets used everytime as the main starting point for planning shots and the main master take I do first of each scene.
-
Mark just read it I didnt say full frame was used ....Axel was refering to 50mm full frame EQUIVILANT and so was I and Burnet too its simple to understand Roger Deakins uses a 32mm lens - THATS THE EQUIVILANT of 50mm Full frame - its quite clearly said multiple times by all of us just read it carefully ok here we go again...... it clearly says 'that is approx 50mm on a Full Frame Camera,' the last sentence OK I agree with Axel 50mm Full Frame and above is used in most films these days as a standard. DOPs like Roger Deakins tend to use a 32mm lens on the Alexa alot of the time , a large part of SKYFALL is shot on a 32mm lens that is approx 50mm on a Full Frame Camera,

I have this version , http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=191029221945 and its very very sharp wide open on my G6 , superb outside at night for shooting in City centres with lots of lights Neon etc you do have to remove the rear collar as it wont fit a c mount adaptor and replace the collar with a piece of cut off a plastic 35mm film container to replace it , then it fits a c mount adapter all ok. Ive modded 2 of these lenses last week its easy to do. also great for portraits , renders faces very nicely , great bokeh too you dont get they wierd awful swirly bokeh you get off the cheap chinese 25mm f1/4 thats common on ebay now
-
just read it carefully its quite clear what I was talking about everyone else undestands it!!
-
35mm 8 perf is Vista Vision like Burnet Rhoades says it is not really used much for movies , Lucasfilm re activated alot of old Vista Vision cameras they bought cheap in the mid 70s so they could shoot the model blue screen fx shots for Star Wars , but Vista Vision as a shooting format did not last long , I think Vertigo was shot Vista Vision by Hitchcock
-
32mm lens that is approx 50mm on a Full Frame Camera Mark an Alexa is s35 please ! we all know this!!
-
'I agree with Axel 50mm Full Frame and above is used in most films these days as a standard. DOPs like Roger Deakins tend to use a 32mm lens on the Alexa alot of the time , a large part of SKYFALL is shot on a 32mm lens that is approx 50mm on a Full Frame Camera,' yes I made that quite clear , he's using an Alexa !
