Panasonic GM1 review - another pocket cinema camera
andy lee replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
does it only have auto ISO in manual mode ? as I find that can lead to shots going dark and bright when you pan to lighter or darker areas.the camera tries to compensate My GF3s do this and when I use them on cars I have to avoid bridges and tunnels !! and its useless at night as it automatically ramps upto really noisy hi ISOs even with fast lenses.... just interested to see if this Gm1 does that too -
Panasonic GM1 review - another pocket cinema camera

Panasonic do it again - another superb camera - Im sticking with them ..... I will be retiring my GF3 crash cams and replacing them with this. these small cameras are superb for mounting on cars , especially dash boards in the corners facing the driver where you cant get a big camera , also wing mirrors and front bumpers! -
here is another one on ebay from China ....mmm tempted!! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/3-Axis-Camera-Gimbal-With-Stabilized-Mount-Servos-Gyro-Handle-Gimbal-For-Movie-/360742047223?pt=UK_ToysGames_RadioControlled_JN&hash=item53fde6cdf7

yes Axel - its good that ebay is starting to get a few of these from China by different makers its basically a modified helecopter stabaliser they all have been selling for a few years now I dont see why these have to be 12k like the Movi - so roll on 2014 and some new toys!
-
the Skytronic one was good but £4000 is still 10x the price of the Chinese one and it looks almost the same - both had carbon fibre tubes here is a pic of it http://www.eoshd.com/comments/gallery/image/804-skytronic-3-axis-stabalizer-rig-at-bve-north-show-2013/ good Idea! Get one for Mr Reid to test!!

there are a few other kits on ebay that are similar - if you are up for self assembly this is so cheap - I would like to try one I was at the BVE Show in Manchester 2 weeks ago and tried one that a UK firm Skyonix had one on display and it produced great stable images on a 5DMK11 it will be available in Jan 2014 in the UK priced around £4000

also try the Carl Zeiss 80mm f2.8 Biometar - stunning very very sharp lens I use this on my G6 alot - great for portaits

just spotted this on ebay Movi type 3 axis stabaliser for £434 !! looks very similar to the Movi - that was $12,000 ish http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/3-axis-DSLR-Handle-Brushless-Gimbal-Camera-Mount-Set-w-5210-Motor-BGC-Controller-/251379663758?pt=UK_ToysGames_RadioControlled_JN&hash=item3a8765438e

just spotted this is now available as of yesterday Lens Turbo's first speedbooster adaptor for Micro 4/3 in Nikon AI-S mount its $199 !! useful for GH2 G6 and BMPCC http://mxcamera.com/product_info.php?products_id=861 I hope they make some other mounts soon! C/Y would be useful....

I use the fig rig for walkimg shots alot , I like it - you do have to learn how to walk smoothly with it
-
nice to see another film shot on Panasonic , this is the way forward , the econony of it all makes sence Ive shot with 4 GH2s and 2 GF3s all with Driftwood hacks and it is great to set up multiple angles for one scene it does speed up the shoot massively -

also Yashica 24mm ML f2.8 in C/Y Mount is regarded as a Carl Zeiss Distagon equivilant - razor sharp and I use this lens for landscapes and wides in city streets alot
-
the Canon 24-105mm f4 is as sharp as any prime lens I own , it has aspheric elements and it is an Industry standard lens used by Pro photogaphers all over the world. I have shot extensively with this lens over the past 5 years now on my Canon and I can say it is a stunning lens highly recomended The Carl Zeiss 28-70mm f3.5 Vario Sonnar zoom in C/Y mount is also a superb lens very very sharp with aspheric elements - cheaper than the Canon and in my opinion sharper and renders nicer contrasty images

these Pentax lenses fully cover a micro 4/3 sensor with no vignetting the 18mm is a superb little lens 24mm is a bit soft on the edges sharp in the middle but I do like this as it has a cool look to it and 24mm on a GH2/G6 is a useful 'standard' lens 50mm is very sharp 70mm is very sharp and has a superb looking bokeh drop off to it all these are f2.8 lenses ,no apperture ,and if you want to stop down you need to bluetack a plastic washer onto the back element I have 2 sizes that give me approx f5.6 and f11 ish f5.6 is ok outside in cloud f11 ok outside in sun and with no washer fully open at f2.8 is great on set with lights I just light the set for f2.8

this is the Canon EF - Micro 4/3 adaptor I use http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Canon-EOS-EF-lens-to-Micro-4-3-M43-Adapter-w-Aperture-/150651336386?pt=UK_Photography_CameraLenses_Lens_caps_hoods_adaptors_ET&hash=item231384f6c2 it has an aperture built in it (as all your Canon lenses are now just usable fully open ) the aperture works well on the Canon 50mm f1.4 and Sigma 30mm f1.4 primes making them stop down and usable but doesnt work well on the 24-105mm L series zoom - it causes vignetting..... but the adaptor is well made and works well
-
the 10 pound adaptors Im talking about are for the Pentax 110 range of lenses not the Canon lenses
-
the Panasonic 14-42mm 'kit lens' is actually a very sharp useful lens (it has aspheric elements) and its cheap and readily available on ebay for about £60 , its light and small - useful to have around all the time Pentax 25mm f1.4 c mount is a favourite of mine the 10-20 Sigma is a nice lens but it does 'bend /barrel on the edges noticably the whole Pentax 110 lens range is small light and has a very filmic looking they made the following - 18mm, 24mm ,50mm, 70mm and a 20-40mm zoom - all f2.8 you could shoot a whole film on this set of lenses and the whole lots costs under £150 with a £10 adaptor off ebay you can use these on your BMPCC GH2 AND G6 Here is 18 24 and 50 off ebay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Asahi-Pentax-110-Auto-System-35mm-SLR-Film-Camera-with-3-Lens-18mm-24mm-50mm-/121221081183?pt=UK_Film_Cameras&hash=item1c3956e85f

yes I have an EF to micro 4/3 adaptor off ebay have a look there are plenty out there
-
the Pentax 18mm is light and superb for run and gun shooting as everything from about 5 feet is in focus so you can run around on a hand held rig and not have focus issues - it is very useful
-
just goes to show if you know what you are doing the camera really doesn't matter - the story counts first
-
Check out this film made on a Nick Driftwood hacked Panasonic GH2 Intra Hack 'Sedna'. its just got a UK cinema release - http://www.showcasecinemas.co.uk/films/who-needs-enemies
-
the Panny 14mm f2.5 is a superb lens with aspheric elements and is very very sharp if you want a cheaper alternative -try this - I do also use the Pentax 110 systems 18mm f2.8 with an adaptor this tiny lens is great and cheap on ebay
-
Zeiss Vario Sonnars are simply stunning lenses , in a different league to most glass , I use them alot as my first choise of lenses and that lens on the RX10 is superb. there are other Zeiss lenses you can use on your GH2 G6 AND BMPCC , they are not quite as long zoom ranges or as fast but the Carl Zeiss Contax N Mount lenses are equally superb especially the 24-85mm N mount , its a big lens and amazingly sharp - cinema PL mount glass sharp
