  1. I was convinced 4 months ago when the hack first came out - but the workflow is still too time consuming so my MK111 is still a nice stills camera , G6 is the main workhorse
  2. the differance is quite remarkable!! very useful article - thanks
  3. Panasonic G6 superb camera - Panasonic have really made a great camera here with lots of nice features that improve it over my hacked gh2 - you can then keep all your micro 4/3 glass and in the future you can always upgrade to the Panasonic 4k camera they are talking about on another thread on this forum
  4. I dont remember ever talking about XLRs?? where did that come from??   I was saying I don't need built in NDs I'm more than used to putting them on the end of my lenses for the past 20 years I use different NDs for different looks ,Tiffen, Cokin, Lee , Kodak Wrattens all have different useful looks for different jobs variety is the spice of life !!
  5. lets be realistic this wont have a built in ND - its a consumer Pansonic Product ...just getting 4k is great Im not complaining , The NDs go in your matte box - on the end of your lens - haha!
  6. yes thank you Panasonic I will continue to stick with you ... gh2... g6 and next 4k camera  Im not bothered about a built in ND , Im quite happy with my NDs for all my m4/3 glass which can work on the 4K camera at no additional cost
  7. its a useful addition especially for remotely mounted cameras
  8. nice one deshe - you have found a very very useful feature for the g6! this is a big deal , makes the lack of hdmi out not such a big deal Im gonna try it on my sony experia
  9. lighting is the most important part of the job - what ever camera you use   and then hire the best 3d artist you can as all that green has to be replaced on every cut you make - and in perspective too. so the most amazing pull off your 4.4.4 camera is no good if you are replacing green with junk - so we spent more time 3d modeling designing the virtual sets - lighting the virtual sets, pre grading the virtual sets to fit the live action , texturing the virtual sets etc etc etc layering and layering and layering rendering rendering rendering get the look   more time doing all of that than doing green pulls off my 4 2 0 camera as thats was the easy bit!   green replacement takes time - lots of time , its not always fun waiting for massive renders
  10. this is good news Im sticking with Panasonic gh2 - g6 and next 4k camera
  11. I like to do things simply and easliy and not over egg the job , yes I could shoot every job in ML Canon RAW  or with a pro res  camera etc but most jobs dont need it so I use Pansonic and Canon cameras mainly now that are 4 2 0 it works for me!! time = money
  12. Youtube video was posted by the RECORD LABEL as a promo item ...its is nothing to do with me that its is 480 I shot and delivered a 1080p 25fps video to them as someone who shoots expensive videos for record labels (that video had a buget of £20,000 UK Pounds and I get paid to do it , I dont do it for fun , I am saying you can shoot prefectly usable greenscreen results with a 4 2 0 camera , , MTV are happy I dont remember them refusing to broadcast my work or any other TV stations across the world that play my videos on heavy rotation on their music channels 24/7. Too many pixel peepers on here that read spec sheets but dont deliver product .   This topic started with a newbie to green screen work wanting a cheap camera not a RAW /prores data low nighmare I have shot more Blue and Greesceen commercially than alot of people on this forum and in real world , get the job done and deliver quality product to the TV station/record label time after time . So my advice to him was a Panasonic or Canon camera will do a prefectly acceptable job ...and you can get paid if you know what you are doing...
  13. SCENE B woman on starship by window overlooking space ...close ups - done it !!  in this video on a 5DMK11 ......4. 2. 0   my point is it can be done if you know what you are doing   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dMXfD-vQ5ng
  14. have you ever actually tried shooting green screen for a 'real project' with RAW ITS A NIGHTMARE OF DATA MANAGEMENT as you have massive RAW files PLUS all your layers of added green replacement parts for every cut you do you need the most powerful computer you can get your hands on to handle all the data as layers add up, and up... I do not recomend this for a newbie beginner , we use a high end AVID system to work this amount of data   Stick to a Panasonic or Canon Camera - learn how to light and how to do good pulls thats the main thing you need to learn first
  15. you dont need a RAW camera at all If you want perfect green screen practice you lighting and 4 2 0 camera is great no issues
  16. this guy is a beginner and a 4 2 0 camera is fine for what he whats to do - Ive had alot of pop vidoes broadcast across the world on MTV and all the major music chanels shot on a 4 2 0 camera - you dont need to go spending a fortune on a camera just to do blue screen or green screen - there is alot of smoke and mirrors on this forum of people who read spec sheets and and believe myths Get your lighting right thats the important bit first.
  17. the bit rate is not an issue Mark the image is BETTER than my Nick Driftwood 150mb/s hacked GH2 - you need to use a G6 it is instantly obvious once you get hold of the camera Panasonic have done an amazing job tweeking the G6 so its image is so much better than a hacked GH2 and righly so - you should be able to buy a Panasonic camera and have it work superbly WITHOUT hacking it The G6 is that camera , it is also much better than a GH3 image wise, I dont like the GH3 sensor at all for video.
  18. Pansonic G6 is better than my hacked GH2 for video and takes great stills too - and is cheap and works straight out the box   witha G6 you wont need a video camera
  19. green screen with a 4:2:0 is NOT hard at all you dont need a 4.4.4 camera - a Canon or Panasonic camera will work just fine have a look at this big green screen video I directed and shot on 4:2:0 cameras no problems at all.   I have directed alot of big expensive green screen videos for Major Record companies over the past 20 years   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vtkbNHe5vSc   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dMXfD-vQ5ng     Take it from me with green screen the most important thing is the lighting NOT the camera ! Make sure you light your set and subject correctly and you will save loads of time in post as good lighting = good pulls and easy keying , which means less time in post. So practice alot with your set up and test before you do something for real!
  20.   Its not my G6 its Panasonics G6 ....they have made a great camera 2 things have happened in the past 4 months Magic Lantern RAW on Canon cameras and Blackmagic pocket camera both are great for certain jobs but both have caused people to loose sight of how good the G6 really is straight out the box   I was an early adopter and I seem to be the only person using this camera on here alot , Its now my main camera over the GH2s the image is better than my Driftwood 150mb/s hacked GH2 ...straight out the box for me that is an amazing thing as the file sizes are now smaller and the image is better I have no idea how Panasonic have done this but they have and it works So yes I do highly recomend the G6 I can record 2.5 hrs on a cheap 32gb card and I stll get stunning images off the G6
  21. Absolutely fine Mark it works like a treat.....
  22. newbie with ML RAW and big file sizes might be a very steep learning curve ....... so option 2 ;   I would recomend a Panasonic G6 - superb camera in my opinion the best non raw DSLR out there right now its small , light and cheap and easy to use and takes a superb very very sharp cinematic image with 'normal' managable size files Ive had no issues on green screen with it
  23. btw the OLED screen and evf on the G6 are superb - a huge improvment on the GH2 - so I never need hdmi out on the g6 - as they are better than my external hdmi monitor too !!
