  1. He is a Billionaire ...so he's not really out of a job ...I think he is just not going to be in the spotlight as much with Red from now on.. He still owns the company!
  2. Jims final post on Reduser:   08-19-2013, 03:03 AM
  3. interesting news from televisual.com Ive pasted the main part of the news below   http://www.televisual.com/news-detail/Jim-Jannard-resigns-as-CEO-of-camera-maker-Red-_nid-3144.html     Jim Jannard resigns as CEO of camera maker Red News Jake Bickerton 20 August 2013 Jim Jannard, the founder and CEO of camera manufacturer Red, has resigned as 'Red Leader', citing what he believes are personal attacks on his integrity as the main reason for his departure. Following his resignation, he plans to "sink into the background" where he will "work on the future of digital cameras behind the scenes". He has appointed Jarred Land as the new leader of the company. Jannard, who is reportedly worth around US$1.4billion, made much of his fortune after selling eyewear brand Oakley, which he apparently setup with a budget of just US$300. He dramatically resigned from his position as Red CEO yesterday via a posting on the Reduser forum. The post, titled 'My Final Post', details the birth of Red and Jannard's thinking behind setting up Red before going on the describe the company's achievements and how he feels he's been unfairly treated by a number of named cinematographers in particular as well as a broader section of the cinematography community.
  4. what camera are you using?   I never shoot outside without using ND filters , This really helps with the 'look' Im after
  5. full sun I always used nd filters at least ND8 (nd16 maybe needed) and stop down to about f8 or f11 I dont go lower than f11 as you can get lens artifacts bouncing around producing dark spots on the image if you have any dust on your sensor it will also appear as dark hexagon shaped areas at f16 -22 NDs are essential in bright sunlight 1/50 sec at 100/ 160 iso or lower   Over cast is easier - open up and you may remove the ND filters as necessary depending on how much light there is. 1/50 sec as low iso as you can 100 / 160 etc
  6. nice article here on rental package of Kubrick Zeiss f0.7 lenses   By Bryant Frazer   /   Mar 7, 2013 If you know much about Stanley Kubrick's methodology, you've probably heard about the special, super-fast lenses that he used to shoot candlelit scenes in Barry Lyndon (1975) — they were Zeiss f/0.7 lenses originally developed for a NASA project to take still photographs of the dark side of the moon.  Only 10 were made. Kubrick got hold of three of them and had Ed DiGiulio of Cinema Products Corp., a former Mitchell camera executive, figure out how to fit two of the awkward lenses to his go-to camera, a Mitchell BNC. (In this old story from American Cinematographer, DiGiulio describes the project in detail.) One obstacle to the use of these lenses by other filmmakers has been the fact that they could only be mounted to a specially modified camera. But now, P+S Technik says that a PS-Cam X35 HD camera has been fitted with a BNC-R lens mount that can handle them. It is offering a rental package that includes the BNC-R PS-Cam as well as the two modified Zeiss lenses, at focal lengths of 35mm and 50mm. Also in the package is a range of six re-housed vintage Cooke Speed Panchro lenses. Because of the extremely shallow depth of field offered by the lenses, Kubrick's actors had to stay close to their marks to remain in focus and it took five full rotations to rack over from the viewing position to the filming position with a film camera. (Kubrick reportedly considered using the same lenses for scenes in Eyes Wide Shut, but decided they would be too restrictive for the amount of movement he wanted in the frame.) Checking focus on a high-resolution LCD should make life a little easier for the focus pullers. With today's faster film stocks, the lenses' low-light capabilties aren't quite as indispensable as they were in the 1970s, but their depth-of-field characteristics and soft bokeh remain unique. A short video clip showing digitally captured sample footage is available for viewing online.  P+S Technik's rental partners for the Kubrick Collection include Otto Nemenz in Los Angeles, Joe Dunton Camera in Wilmington, NC, Take 2 Film Services in London, and FGV Schmidle in Munich. Visit P+S Technik on the web and download a PDF to see exactly what's included in the rental package. 12. It works Ive been using it like this for years ...nuff said
  13. here is how you get 6 feet focus from a Schneider Anamorphic Cinelux small lens.   The Schenider winds back past 3 m so wind the focus all the way back until it hits the bump stop I use a Minolta 45mm taking lens on my Panasonic g6 / gh2   use deep focus f16 (Schneider recomend stopping down for their projectionists to get nearer focus than 3m in small screening rooms- it says so on their web site)   voila..... focus your Minolta lens to 6 feet -you are ready to shoot - bingo.... its that easy   Ive been using these Schneider lenses for 10 years since they first made them - the first one I bought cost the price of a small car when new! 6 feet is near enough for me and covers 99% of what I do - I don't need to get any nearer so the Schneider is the prefect lens for my work as it is so sharp.

  17. Ive been using the 'Natural' setting and dialing down the contrast and color - its the closest I can get to Nostalgic on the GH2 that I use all the time - I like the look of it
  18. have a look on the panasonic site as I just use it for video
  19. I bought mine form Vitaliy at personalview.com ......he has a deal for forum members his supplier has g6 PAL bodies with the 30minute EU recording restriction removed so it will record until your card runs out of space!
  20. for me its the work flow .....the G6 is producing stunning highly detailed images without all the ML RAW massive work flow to make it work OR the GH2 massive hacked file sizes that are huge - 1GB per minuite on mine G6 is massive detail with small file sizes - its a no brainer no fancy expensive card needed Im using a regular 32gb san disk extreme card this gives me 2 1/2 hrs of AVCHD 24p recording on a £25 card!!
  21. DSLR communtity is full of too many people who are like sheep and only follow other peoples views they have no views of their own - do your own thing and break away from the crowd - do someting that cuts through the clutter - buy random stuff to test to see if it works for you - you dont need someone to tell you you have to buy something!! - its the only way to really try stuff and find kit that works for you!!
  22. the g6 to my eyes has a more detailed image - it is simply stunning I dont know how Panasonic have done it but they have done some very clever tweeking with the codec to make superb images at a standard file size - my gh2 is running 1 gig per minuite with the hack - huge files compared to the g6 The g6 straight out the box on a lower bit rate is producing a better image ! simply stunning work by Panasonic !
