  1. the g6 to my eyes has a more detailed image - it is simply stunning I dont know how Panasonic have done it but they have done some very clever tweeking with the codec to make superb images at a standard file size - my gh2 is running 1 gig per minuite with the hack - huge files compared to the g6 The g6 straight out the box on a lower bit rate is producing a better image ! simply stunning work by Panasonic !
  2. detail in the image and alot less moire from all the tests Ive done with both G6 sensor is alot bestter than gh3 sensor for video
  3. Ive had my G6 for 2 weeks now and it kills my hacked gh2 for detail G6 video is simply stunning - I highly recomend it yes body is abit plasticy - but the camera is packed full and good features It is the best non RAW camera on the market right now BTW the crop factor is x2 for the g6 - gh2 is x1.86 that means all those c mount lenses that just vignetted a bit on the gh2 on the edges of the frame - now do not vignette at all on the g6!! Pentax 25mm f1.4 c mount lens is stunning on the g6 as a main FF 50mm equivilent Ps I bought mine from Vitaliy on Personal View .com and he said there will only be a hack for the G6 if Panasonic release a software update I think the G6 rocks straight out the box as it is!
  4. G6 kills GH3 , the G6 is a stunning camera I cant stop using mine and was a huge gh2 fan before this G6 came out

think carefully ! the front and back elements of the anamorphic lens have to be EXACTLY alligned to within a 1/1000 of a degree or you image will be soft and not in focus - how are you going to allign the elements correctly after you have cut it in half!! this is a critical thing for the lens to be sharp
  6. i use a Canon FD L series 24-35mm alot and it out performs post prime lenses as it has aspherical elements the Panasonic zooms have aspherical elements too are are very sharp

  10. I will always buy your books I find them very interesting and well written.   anything that is creative costs time and money to make - Someone has to have the talent to make it so you have to pay for it - I'm just not into this 'I expect everything for free culture'  it drags the industry down to a race to the bottom...... and then there will be no creative people left .   so buy Andrew's guide - he has done more for DSLR shooters than anyone else I know....period!
  11. just bought it - another great book from Andrew !

  16. Cooke, Angenieux Collaborate on Anamorphics Cooke Optics and Thales Angenieux have worked together, sharing the designs of Cooke’s new Anamorphic/i series of primes and Angenieux’s new Optimo 2S anamorphic zooms, in order to bring cinematographers a full range of compatible anamorphic lenses. “Cooke primes and Angenieux zooms have always complemented each other in terms of look and color,” says ASC associate Les Zellan, chairman and owner of Cooke Optics. “They are frequently used together on feature films as the combination of our respective expertise brings something special to the screen that cinematographers have long valued. We are confident they will not be disappointed with the results of this initiative, as we make anamorphic production available for a new generation of filmmakers.” Pierre Andurand, CEO and president of Thales Angenieux, adds, “In our ongoing quest to provide cinematographers with the very best tools, we are developing a complete line of compact anamorphic zooms that maintain a superb level of resolution while keeping a very human feel in the image. The entire line will perfectly match with the new Cooke primes and will be friendly, usable, compact and lightweight.” Angenieux has unveiled the first lens in its planned line of compact Optimo 2S (2x squeeze) anamorphic zooms: the 56-152mm T4 zoom. Weighing only 4.8 pounds, the lens incorporates a unique optical design that combines spherical and cylindrical elements in the same group to deliver exceptional sharpness and low distortion. Cooke has designed seven prime lenses for its Anamorphic/i system: 25mm, 32mm, 40mm, 50mm, 75mm, 100mm and 135mm, all T2.3. The lenses, which are approximately the size of Cooke’s S4/i lenses, retain the Cooke Look and are color matched with the Cooke 5/i, S4/i and MiniS4/i ranges. Each lens also comes equipped with /i Technology to capture lens metadata. Both companies expect to ship the new lenses in early 2014. For additional informatio

  20. watch the film ' The International ' with Clive Owen - its basically a Bond film with Clive as an Interpol Agent - and there are 2 key scenes from it that Skyfall shamelessly - stole from it.   A chaise on the rooftops of the Grand Bazaar in Instanbul Turkey and the meeting in an art gallery scene - Both in the Clive Owen film before Skyfall was shot. I think Sam Mendes must have been watching Clive Owen in 'The International' on heavy rotation on his dvd player to get ideas for Skyfall........

  23. more Roger Deakins news:   http://www.bleedingcool.com/2013/07/10/angelina-jolie-and-top-class-dp-roger-deakins-go-scouting/   This picture, which comes to us via Pop Sugar, appears to sugest that cinematographer Roger Deakins, somewhat obscured by Angelina Jolie‘s rather large hat, will be shooting Jolie’s next directorial effort, Unbroken. It is perhaps worth noting that I’m reasonably sure that’s Deakins in the picture, not 100% confident about it, but Brendon insists that it’s him. Unbroken is based on a book entitled Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience, and Redemption by Laura Hillenbrand and Jolie is reportedly in Oahu, Hawaii to begin work on the film. If we find solid confirmation that this is indeed Deakins in the background and he’s shooting Unbroken I think my interest level in this film may go up a significant amount. It’s already on the rise at the mere suggestion. Deakins is probably the closet thing we have to a superstar cinematographer. He even recently received a CBE, and his work on the hugely successful Skyfall last year not only showed off his incredible eye and technical ability but no doubt helped the ranks of his fan club swell even further. UPDATE: An official press release confirms that, yes, Deakins is the cinematographer on this film and its US release has been set for December 25th, 2014. As previously known, the Coen Bros. wrote the final draft of the screenplay. Universal City, CA, July 10, 2013—Universal Pictures today announced that Unbroken, the new film directed by Angelina Jolie, will be released in North American theaters on December 25, 2014. Unbroken marks Jolie’s second turn behind the camera, after her critically acclaimed directorial debut, 2011’s Golden Globe Award-nominated In the Land of Blood and Honey. Based on The New York Times bestselling book “Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience, and Redemption” by Laura Hillenbrand (“Seabiscuit: An American Legend”), Unbroken is set to begin production in late September 2013. Jolie, who is joined on the project by fellow producers Matthew Baer (City by the Sea) and Erwin Stoff (The Day the Earth Stood Still), has been a fierce champion of bringing this incredible story of Louis “Louie” Zamperini’s bravery and heroism to the big screen. Joining the behind-the-scenes crew are an accomplished team, led by ten-time Oscar®-nominated cinematographer Roger Deakins (Skyfall), who comes aboard as director of photography, and Jon Hutman (In the Land of Blood and Honey), who reteams with Jolie as the film’s production designer. “I’ve had the privilege of spending a great deal of time with Louie Zamperini, who is a hero of mine, and now—I am proud to say—a dear friend,” said Jolie. “I am deeply honored to be telling his extraordinary story, and I will do my absolute best to give him the film he deserves. I am grateful to Universal for making this film a priority.” Originally published by Random House in 2010, the book follows the incredible life story of Olympian and war hero Zamperini who, along with two other crewmen, survived in a raft for 47 days after a near-fatal plane crash in WWII—only to be caught by the Japanese Navy and sent to a prisoner-of-war camp. The book has sat atop The New York Times bestseller list for more than 135 consecutive weeks and is the sixth best-selling nonfiction title ever since the list began in 1942. It was also the winner of the Los Angeles Times Book of the Year Award for Nonfiction. The project has a long history with the studio, which first acquired the rights to tell the life story of Zamperini in 1957 and optioned the rights to Hillenbrand’s book in December 2010. Jolie was attached to direct in December 2012. Academy Award® winners Joel and Ethan Coen (No Country for Old Men) rewrote the screenplay from earlier drafts by William Nicholson (Les Misérables) and Richard LaGravenese (HBO’s Behind the Candelabra). Mick Garris and David Crockett serve as executive producers.
