  1. The Scheider has a knurled focusing knob you use. they are very easy and precise to use I do prefer this sytem  - precise German engineering at its best - very very smooth focusing , better than a helicoid in my view - thats why this is the lens I always to go and use myself - Schneider are King in my book!! and the glass kills anything else out there is it is supeb and so sharp  - the best you can buy!!
  2. here are some pictures of the Tecnoir Schneider Anamorphic lens rig.   Tecnoir is the only company that has designed and manufuctred a lens holder for the Schneider Aanamorphic lens for your 15mm rod rail system. The Tecnoir lens holder fully supports your lens and BOTH ends for maximum stability while filming on your 15mm rods plus it has a locking ring that clamps the rear of the Schnieder lens into the correct horizontal allignment - you do this once - lock it and forget about it - prefect allignement every time you film with this lens.   I have 3 Schneiders that have mint as new glass available NOW for sale with Tecnoir lens holders   http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=231007952238   http://www.ebay.co.u...984.m1586.l2649   http://www.ebay.co.u...984.m1586.l2649
  3. I have done extensive tests with my hacked gh2 (driftwood quantum 9b 150mb/s) and the G6 using the same Carl Zeiss Vario sonnar lens on both and the G6 is much better image wise Panasonic have done a superb job with the G6 - its has a much finer gain structure alot less mosquito noise in the black and dark areas and is just as sharp as the hacked gh2 Its a no brainer the g6 is very very good - just buy one
  4. try 1/150 sec and above shutter speed for faster movement - you will get less blur then on your fast moving long boards out side in cloud - try f3.5 - f5.6 in bright sun shine f16 - f22   iso outside 100 iso in the sun iso outside in dark cloud - upto iso 400   all these are basic starting points but should get you shooting good footage quickly ! have fun !     Andy
  5. as you say Andrew its now time for all the major manufacturers to get with it and make cameras with a RAW option on them. It is there in the cameras but its taking hackers to find it and make it work.   I just got a Panasonic G6 and I have to say Panasonic have definately listened to all the hackers thoughts on the GH2 flaws and the image from the G6 is superb - straight out the box with no hack. very sharp and detailed image and no mosquito noise in the dark and black areas !
  6. your PAL dvd is 25fps your American films / tv shows are converted from 24fps for films and 30fps NTSC for tv shows to 25p as the dvd is authored   I have to make dvd masters for different regions to conform to the spec for each region each time I release a dvd worldwide.   but yes yo can shoot 24p if you want to -
  7. I shot on 16mm film for about 15 years - I also had 2 Bolex h16 cameras I used alot -  carted them all over the world during this time. You really need to consider the BOLEX PRISM before you rush out and buy lenses   please read this carefully http://www.city-net.com/~fodder/bolex/truth.html   The Bolex H16 RX cameras and the more recent Bolex models utilize a beam-splitting prism for reflex viewing and still allow lens interchangeability. This leads to optical complications. The prism being between the taking lens and the film must be regarded as an optical element of that lens. Even though it is a very simple element with no curvatures, it has optical significance.     Lenses for the Bolex are designed to work with the prism it alters the light path to the film Black Magic Pocket camera has NO PRISM so your lenses will not be working as they where designed to properly Please make sure you understand the principles first before you buy as some lenses are affected more that others.     and then read this to undertand the prism more http://www.bolexcollector.com/cameras/h16reflex.html     this is the intersting bit from the above link......   The Bolex H-16 Reflex was also designed with a 20% more powerful motor than earlier models. On a full wind, it was possible to run the camera for 40 seconds at 16 frames per second. [1] The camera could accept three C-mount lenses (1 inch thread diameter). However, the glass of the reflex prism between the lens and film plane affected the optical correction of focal length lenses equal to or less than 50mm. To solve this problem, Kern introduced a line of "RX" mount lenses which were distinguishable by red letters engraved on the front of the barrel. (More on RX and standard C mount lenses.) It was still possible to use standard C-mount lenses of 50mm or less, but for best results it was recommended they be stopped down to at least f/5.6. [2] However, it was later suggested that non-RX lenses of 50mm focal lengths and less would likely produce satisfactory results only when stopped down to f/8 or smaller. [3]

  11. very interesting article on Panasonic sensors sizes GH2 , GH3 and G6 are compared have a read of it http://m43photo.blogspot.co.uk/2013/05/multi-aspect-sensor.html G6 is x2 crop GH2 is x1.86 crop

  15. just found this looks like g6 has x2 crop factor http://www.digicamdb.com/compare/panasonic_lumix-dmc-g6-vs-nikon_d3200/
  16. CROP FACTORS. Has anyone else noticed it looks like the G6 has a crop factor of x2 while the GH2 has a x1.86 crop factor - despite both cameras having the same sensor ?? has anyone else spotted this??
  17. can you imagine kids today sitting through 'Lawrence Of Arabia' or 'Dr Zhivargo'..... 3 hrs long....   two of my favourite all time films ever,  David Lean and Freddie Young at their best .. long takes ,stunning cinematography , no MTV quick edits , no CGI explosions and a story with a plot and grown up dialogue......etc etc   Films are now made for a gerenation with ADHD and 40 minute attention spans and sound bite one liner scripts.   So roll on the Indie arthouse digital revolutuion , if it makes more new directors make intersting films then thats a good thing in my book!!
  18. looks like a fun night! shots look good! I have the Konica Hexanon 40mm too its a bit soft wide open and flares nicely Also try the Minolta 45mm f2.8 its sharper wide open its a nice lens
  19. Only 3 Schneiders left and 4 Bausch and Lombs Anamorphics They come with Tecnoir 15mm lens support holder that keeps the lens correctly horizontally aligned by locking the rear in the correct position and ready to slide onto your 15mm rod rig
  20. yep he doesn't like telephones! - but the world is moving on and this is now becoming the way people are watching films on the move I have started to do this myself just his past few months alot!! Netflix is a useful resource to tap into!! I use it alot to look at films for ideas

  22.  here is one on my Tecnoir Black Magic Cinema Camera Rig   http://www.eoshd.com/comments/gallery/image/180-tecnoir-blackmagic-anamorphic-cinema-rig-lores/
  23. BIOSKOP.INC Im with you on this ....   Dogma 95 had a load of good ideals to the movement and is worth drawing influenses from the small camera was constantly moving something a GH2 size camera can also easily achieve   So much can be done economically these days the gear we all use is more than good enough to make movies on  you can make great 'no waste movies' where Hollywood would spend millions to achieve the same look.   Do the best with what you have got and get making a film - too many people talk the talk but dont walk the walk so lets start this movement and get making great lo cost films with all the kit we have.
  24. I am going to start a new arthouse movement for indie films shot on Canon and Panasonic DSLRS. Like the Dogma Movement in the 1990's in Scandanavia where it specifies a spec your film is shot to -   I'm calling it the TECNOIR MOVEMENT   small light cheap cameras - can be hacked 50% must be hand help no expensive digital FX shots - if you do use FX use something cheap like Elements by Video Co Pilot in After FX and your entire budget must be under 10,000 GB Pounds - $15,000 US Dollars     its all withing indie film makers grasp and we could all be churing out 'Product' for the indie film market some will be good, some will be average, some will be bad - the cream will come to the top ...   its achievable by most compitant film makers who are on this forum.   And some where along the line new Directors will be born to go onto bigger things......   I've already started my film shot on 3 hacked GH2's there are 4 of us in the team working on it , last week we where shooting car chase shots . we have shot 6 scenes so far and its looking great ......you have to just get on with it and do it!
