  1. but they cripple the sensor by using h264 codec so what you end up with is soft and blocky unlike the GH2 that is sharp and detailed   5DMK11 full frame sensor next to hacked GH2 looks soft
  2. I don't hate Canon at all , I have used their Caneras alot to shoot pop videos for MTV (5DMK11 and 550D), But when you sit in a professional edit suite all day long and you can compare a hacked GH2 right next to a similarly shot Canon image the differance is staggering !! The GH2 retains a huge amount of detail compared to the Canon. For that reason Im now using the GH2 as my main camera for the past year.
  3. Star Wars has a unique look and feel and I dont think JJ will use his torches this time they dont fit with the SW look. I think he will do a great job with Lucas Film, ILM and Disney Harrison Ford would not be doing it if it would tarnish the legacy of the first 3 films he was in. So the fact that Mark , Carrie and Harrison are onboard bodes well!
  4. you need a 24mm prime on a gh2 this is your standard lens with a FF equivilant of about 50mm   I use Yashica f2.8 24mm and a Sigma 24mm f2.8 I only use legacy lenses as I prefer the look and I dont like soulless m4/3 new lenses   A great lens on the GH2 is the Canon FD Mount  L series 24-35mm f3.5 - insanely sharp L series glass and a stunning lens this is highly recomended   Canon FD lenses are cheap very very good and superb I recomned you kit out with Canon FD's
  5. and with their h264 codec shockingly soft and blocky for video compared to a hacked Panasonic GH2 with AVCHD
  6. Lucas Film press release Star Wars Feature Film Production Returns to the U.K. May 10, 2013 Lucasfilm announced today that production of Star Wars: Episode VII will take place in the United Kingdom. All of the six previous live-action Star Wars movies have included UK production in such famed studios as Elstree, Shepperton, Leavesden, Ealing and Pinewood Studios. "We've devoted serious time and attention to revisiting the origins of Star Wars as inspiration for our process on the new movie, and I'm thrilled that returning to the UK for production and utilizing the incredible talent there can be a part of that," said Kathleen Kennedy, President of Lucasfilm. "Speaking from my own longstanding connection to the UK with films like Raiders of the Lost Ark, Empire of the Sun and recently War Horse, it's very exciting to be heading back." Earlier this year, representatives from Lucasfilm met with the Chancellor of the Exchequer, George Osborne, in London to establish an agreement to produce Star Wars in the U.K. "I am delighted that Star Wars is coming back to Britain. Today's announcement that the next Star Wars film will be shot and produced in the UK is great news for fans and our creative industries," Osborne said today. Star Wars: Episode VII will be directed by J.J. Abrams from a screenplay by Michael Arndt and is scheduled for a 2015 release.
  7. Disney are in charge they wont let this be messed up as its their cash cow for the next ten years - they paid Billions for it last year buying Lucas Film. It is all being shot here in the UK which is the real home of Star Wars (with tax breaks announced today from British Chancellor George Osborne) http://uk.movies.yahoo.com/confirmed-star-wars-7-made-uk-010300732.html As long as Disney take all of JJ Abrams torches off him so he does not sit at the side of the camera shining them at the side of the lenses we will all be in good hands! Star Trek always had a clear pristine look where as Star Wars was always grimy dirty and real looking I was never a Treckie I was a die hard SW fans since I was 10 years old and first saw Star Wars here in the UK in 1978 on its original release here (UK got it in '78 - USA got it first in '77!!)   you can see Mr Abrams shining a torch into the side of the lens here on this B-Roll footge from the new film!! http://youtu.be/EQutDk1yecI
  8. G6 unhacked is so far looking very very good see Julian's A/B test on this forum of Hacked GH2 v G6
  9. It just goes to show that the camera is not an issue to artistic greatness If people like your story what you are doing it will sell. Look at the Dogme 95 movement and what they achieved if they had had a GH2 they would have been kicking out some amazing films now   The GH2 is a great camera and now the G6 (with the same sensor) is released soon the legacy continues more films will be made with this camera

  14. CHECK  are shooting AVCHD 24H 24p   not motion jpeg
  15. Hacked gh2 holds an incredable amount of detail in the files its the best non RAW camera on the market - period!!! Mine has Driftwood Quantum 9b updated and it kicks out 170mb/s about 1 gig per minute for recording Superb files huge lattitude for grading   I suggest you put a hi bit rate hack on your GH2
  16. I have never ever sharpened something in post in a commercial edit suite ? why would you?? to me you are just degrading the image you have spent good time and money creating (and bringing out artifacts you dont want from the codec which dont look nice) It is not a practice I have ever done or felt the need to do nor have many of my fellow professional collegues I work with - we had a big talk about this last week in the edit suite as we now keep reading about people doing this on forums. get it right in camera !! if your camera sensor is soft - get another better one - cameras are now cheap get a better lens if your lens is soft , and make sure your focusing is spot on We did not go around 'sharpening up ' when we shot on film ......it had a look It is a practice I would not recomend as you will loose your skills shooting in camera if you just rely on always sharpening in post!! Cameras have 'intrinsive looks' depending on who makes them / sensor size and model type to me that is an advantage it is character and I work with it rather than trying to dial it out in post sharpening so it looks like another brand of camera....... I keep reading about lots of poeple doing this - and yes its a thow over from working on Photoshop - unsharpen mask - but I just dont - ever! It spoils the organic look of the image . I'm personally not into square pixels

  18. the hack on the GH2 gives you bigger files with LESS compression in the AVCHD codec I run mine at about 170mb/s so the files are big over a gig per minuite shooting time But the amount of detail retained in the files is quite amazing I've sat in commercial edit suites grading stuff and you would be suprised at now much latitite there is in a hacked gh2 file for grading . The suite I use regularly work on Red Raw and ARRI Raw and the Gh2 is close to them in the amount of latitiute the files have for grading so my advice is get a mega hi bit rate hack on your gh2.
  19. rich and vibrant colours can be got by the colour profile you shoot on in the camera and by grading in post   Panasonic and olympus make m43 lenses to use without adapter but I would recomend you do use adapters and it will open up a whole world of great lenses you can use Canon FD lenses are superb on a GH2 and cheap Carl Zeiss are also superb and have great blacks and contrast   so have a look on ebay ....
  20. that all sounds good ....so we may get a slightly improved image off this sensor if panasonic have tweeked it as you say we shall have to wait and see ....
  21. thats depends on what picture profile you select to shoot on GH2 Nostalic setting I use all the time is low contrast - not at all crushed
  22. there is also under 300 pounds the Carl Zeiss 28mm f2.8 Distagon which is an amazing lens razor sharp http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Carl-Zeiss-28mm-f2-8-Distagon-T-lens-Contax-Yashica-excellent-condition-/181111880993?pt=UK_Lenses_Filters_Lenses&hash=item2a2b1bfd21   Yashica 24mm f2.8 in c/y mount is my go to standard lens for my GH2 - Zeiss sharpness and less money this one is converted to canon ef mount http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/YASHICA-ML-CANON-EF-24mm-F-2-8-REFURBISHED-CONVERTED-VERY-RARE-EXCEPTIONAL-/230961137599?pt=UK_Lenses_Filters_Lenses&hash=item35c65b47bf
