  2. Everyone on this forum should watch this film - it is a must see especially for all of you who have never shot on film. Andy Lee     Side By Side   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UPDVayF30WQ   For almost one hundred years there was only one way to make a movie — with film. Movies were shot, edited and projected using photochemical film. But over the last two decades a digital process has emerged to challenge photochemical filmmaking. SIDE BY SIDE, a new documentary produced by Keanu Reeves, takes an in-depth look at this revolution. Through interviews with directors, cinematographers, film students, producers, technologists, editors, and exhibitors, SIDE BY SIDE examines all aspects of filmmaking — from capture to edit, visual effects to color correction, distribution to archive. At this moment when digital and photochemical filmmaking coexist, SIDE BY SIDE explores what has been gained, what is lost, and what the future might bring.

  10. Ive not ready any final spec sheets on this camera at all Im just reading whats on this forum ... confusing when they have said 2.6 recently to someone!! I would prefer it if it was 2.6 We have a good relationship with Blackmagic we built a cool rig for the BMCC the other month http://www.eoshd.com/comments/gallery/image/180-tecnoir-blackmagic-anamorphic-cinema-rig-lores/ When we spoke with them last week regarding the pocket camera they said the specs were not finalised for the pocket camera yet.... so lets wait and see......
  11. x2.6 ! interesting that changes the list of lenses that will work ! recalculate!
  12. there is a post about B series here on Reduser http://www.reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?25095-Leica-Vantage-Cine-Lenses/page4
  13. both Canon and Fujinon ENG lenses are great (ENG= Electronic News Gathering) these lenses are made for Digibeta Cameras for News Cameramen the idea is one lens that lets you shoot every senario live news coverage throws at you! so they have fast appertures and massive par focal zooms and a 2x extender built in News Tv stations use both Canon and Fujinon there is not much differance in quaility
  14. Get a Cokin P series set with ND2, ND4 AND ND8 these are the best and do not degrade the image in any way make sure you buy original Cokin as there are alot of cheap copies on ebay I spent lot of time trying every ND made and for the money Cokin are best I dont like Vari NDs at all as they do degrade the image and can add odd artifacts if you get light from side angles you can get rainbow areas of color !   B+W is also a very good make (its made by Schneider in Germany) they are expensive
  15. Blanche have a read of this it explains the physics behind it   http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rotary_disc_shutter
  16. Shutter speed to shutter angles at 24 fps the math is (24 x 360) / Time Fraction (i.e. 8640 / xx where xx is 1/ xx sec ) So the equivalent shutter angle for 1/50 sec shutter speed is 8640 / 50 = 172.8 (i.e 172.8 degrees) Sec Equivalent Degrees 1/32 =270 1/48 =180 1/50 =172.8 1/60 =144 1/96 =90 1/120 =72   Ok try shoot 1/50 most of the time if you can that gives a cinematic look and reduced mains 50hz flicker on lights if your mains is 50hz like it is here in the UK if your subject is moving fast increase your shutter speed to 1/100 Saving Private Ryan was shot by cinematographer Janusz KamiÅ„ski at 45 degrees which is about 1/160 sec as he was shooting film stock he also used and out of phase shutter to get a jerky WW2 newsreel look at times. We can't do this on DSLR but we can use the higher shutter speeds to capture fast movement. - you get less motion blur that way.   I have shot 2 pop videos in low light with fast lenses at 1/30 as it gave me more light as it was a dark set. so different setting work for different lighting styles .
  17. I have a cosmicar /pentax 12.5-75mm 1f1.8 c mount but it needs the mount machining to get it to focus properly (shorter flange focal distance) its too far off the camera so its essentially a macro lens until this is fixed so basically no focus at all on a gh2 massive vingetting - avoid!
  18. second hand Panasonic gh2 if you can find one for 350   or Panasonic gf3 hacked to 100mb/s   second hand Canon 550d
  19. you dont need the 2x extender in all the time for s16 - (you do for GH2 m4/3 I keep it in ) depending on which b4 zoom lens you have some of the zoom ranges will fit the sensor
  20. stunningly sharp Carl Zeiss Anamorphic lens with Tecnoir Lens holder for 15mm rods http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/230962447529?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1586.l2649 Baush and Lomb  Anamorphic lens with Tecnoir Lens holder for 15mm rods http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/230961470810?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1586.l2649
  21. sharp if you get the right ones I use the Wesley 24mm f1.4 and Pentax 25mm f1.4 on my GH2 and both are razor sharp almost Canon L Series sharp!! superb lenses !
  22. I do prefer the warmth of 3200k tungsten - I tend to use that on set all the time LED lights are very blue and cold in their color temp   I have put Lee 85 gels over LED lights to get 3200k color temp back into them   Lee now make LED filters   see below http://www.leefilters.com/lighting/led-02.html LED Conversion Filters A common complaint from people using LED lighting is that the white light is very blue, making it look cold in comparison to a Tungsten white light. LEE Filters have solved this problem with the introduction of a new range of especially designed LED CTO Filters. These filters will convert from white LED sources (colour temperatures ranging from 5000-7000K) to the equivalent of a 3200K Tungsten source. This means that different types of luminaires can now be blended together without the viewer or digital camera seeing a difference.
  23. if you are shooting people - which I do for pop videos all the time 75mm -85mm is considered portrait because it gives you a head and shoulder shot http://www.eoshd.com/comments/gallery/image/21-freak-asylum-you-better-leave-video/ 50mm gives you a waist upwards shot http://www.eoshd.com/comments/gallery/image/22-throwaway-girl-video-shoot/ 35mm gives you a knees upwards shot http://www.eoshd.com/comments/gallery/image/24-throwaway-girl-video-shoot/ 28 is usually the whole body from feet up http://www.eoshd.com/comments/gallery/image/23-throwaway-girl-video-shoot/   thats how I personally use them to shoot girls for pop videos
  24. Fujinon zooms are great I cannot stress how good they are so versitile ! I use them alot especially if you want insane long par focal zooms
