Isco is a good sharp lens I use these alot plus the Vid Atlantic filter is good for run and gun situation where you dont wnat to have to focus both lenses.... You can make one of these yourself out of and old filter and fishing line....it does work I use my home made ones too!! they are just as good!!

This is all about how these cameras are used in professional workflows and how TV and Film producers and directors decide what camera is going to be used on their production. That workflow point is just one of the major influences on decisions as it all boils down to time and money in the projects budget. Some people ..... ....dont understand this ......despite all the above posts and just go on specs. Once one system is proven and sucessful on TV or Boxoffice it become almost an industry standard so it get used more and more. This happens all the time and new systems can come along with newer better specs but they dont get picked up by the industry and used alot ......thats life in business.... ie Betamax vs VHS .... Right now in the digital camera world thats the Alexa.... its gained a huge popularity. So Sony have now made the F55 to try and challenge this market.
-
BTW.....Fuji no longer make 35mm film for motion picture films ...they have ceased production
-
its nothing to do with 'pulling the wool over peoples eyes' as you say you just you have no grasp of how this industry works! Workflow is KING - Arri dominate bacause of this thats a fact....

WAS ??? it is THE carmera of now ...wake up , every Tv commercial you watch every Tv series you watch Avengers and Skyfall 2 of the biggest films this year and currently in production Thor and Iron Man3 ! all shot on Alexa you have no idea how deeply this camera has a strangle hold on the industry Mark do some due dilligence and read up on this 2010
Bruno has hit it on the head...it all boils down to .... 'it's about production workflows' = time and money ! that's the bottom line no transcoding = quicker = cheaper = happy ! the Arri Alexa has taken over Tv and Film ! The BBC in the Uk shoot some TV shows on Alexa at the lowest file size so its cheaper and quicker to work on after its shot I was told this in person last week by one of their top D.O.Ps who does this every week on the TV show he shoots.

READ THIS: the ARRI ALEXA Quietly Continues its Takeover of the Film and Television Industries http://nofilmschool.com/2012/04/arri-alexa-quietly-continues-takeover-film/

Change takes time Mark .... The industry will not just switch after so many have invested in Arri this last 18 months and all those bosses of film and Tv companies will need convincing to do their ironing differently!
-
Mark you are totally missing the point the Sony F55 and Arri Alexa are aimed at completely different Markets to the BMCC. BMCC is a great Camera for the money its not aimed at the same market at all. Yes it has amazing features for the price and DSLR shooter can afford it ....its images look amazing . The Sony and Arri Cameras are aimed to Pro Productions like films and Event TV series like Homeland and Dallas and Hollywood Movies. And those productions are going to carry on using those cameras - as the work flow is proven and quick - This work flow issue is a big time/ expense factor for all productions and thats why the Arri is the big winner at the moment and will continue to dominate for a while yet. BMCC is not shipping in enough numbers to have any impression on the Arri and Sony markets yet.
-
the F55 was built by Sony as a direct competition for the Arri Alexa as over the past 18 months the Alexa has been used on more and more Movies and TV shows world wide. (Homeland, Dallas, Skyfall etc) The Alexa is now THE camera everyone is using more and more. I spoke with Sony and Arri 2 weeks ago about just this issue at a trade show. You are comparing the wrong cameras!!! you should be Comparing the Alexa to F55 for film and TV ......not the BMC guys!
-
GH2 in the Uk goes for 400 - 450 pounds for the body only on ebay you will get 80 pounds for the lens put it on 'buy it now ' and not an auction
-
Im sure wide open they look very arty with such a narrow dof and the flare option by having an uncoated version is great start pointing those at 1000watt lamps on set and they will look amazing!
-
we are getting into almost Stanley Kubrick Zeiss Nasa lens speeds ......nearly ! I'm not sure how much they cost ...Hawk aren't cheap!!

Most Super 16mm PL mount lenses are out (as well as being extremely expensive) as the diameter of the mount isn’t wide enough to accommodate their fat rear ends. Several lovely primes which can be had for around $800 are out – the Zeiss Distagon 8mm T2.1 S16 PL, Voigtlander 17.5mm F0.95 and Olympus 12mm F2 would have been lovely lenses on the Blackmagic Cinema Camera. I just use Canon FD L Series lenses, they are very sharp - I use these alot on GH2 especially the 24-35mm zoom they are fully manual so the aperture works fine And Carl Zeiss Contax Yashica mount lenses also fully manual are very sharp and also work very well on m4/3 mount The Vario Sonnar lenses are very useful and stunningly sharp Also Fujinon HD B4 mount ENG lenses are great (with 2x extender ) the only lens I can do those super long crash zooms with on m4/3 -
Sony Make their own sensors I sat through 2 lectures last week by Sony UK at the BVE North exhibition in Manchester on the F65 and F55 cameras.the F65 has a unique sensor that squeezes the red and blue in alternate lines between the greenIt is NOT a Bayer Pattern sensor and the data off this sensor is 7 gig a second!they compress it down to 2 gig a second so its usable.Sony are way ahead of everyone on Sensor design.....this is a True 4K sensor .........in terms of true pixels its nearer 8k Sony where sayingthe F55 is 4K but its not the same sensor - its a 4K Bayer in the same way that the Red Epic sensor is 4k ...ish The F65 with its mechanical shutter and unique sensor is the bench mark at the moment. The F55 is aimed by Sony directly at the Arri Alexa market. I was talking with Milan Krsljanin of Arri and they have penetrated the TV drama golbal market massively over the past 18 months - in the USA and UK heavily, Downtown Abbey, Dallas etc even BBC - Casualty TV drama and BBC Childrens Drama showS (DP - Tony Coldwell)are now shot on Alexa. So Sony have to break into this market and they hope Global shutter on the F55 will tempt TV drama production and feature films over to the F55 . It will be hard as Arri now has such a lead in this market.

A good Century x0.7 wide angle adaptor will cost about 500 Uk pounds and they are made by Schnieder in Germany they are broadcast hd quality and are stunningly sharp.....its a massive piece of glass in this lens! They do work very well infront of my Schneider and Isco anamorphics .... and rectilinear wide lenses They sharpen up your image alot too So dont write them off with out trying one first !! If you are using rectilinear lenses they look great!! your verticles will stay verticle!
-
colour filter array...why is markm so into this? all these cameras are all Bayer pattern sensors ......
-
go as wide as you can on your taking lens (before it vingettes) then put a Century or Olympus INFRONT of the anamorphic and you get a very very sharp super wide image (you do need a 72mm back end on the wide adaptor to cover the front of your anamorphic completely in some cases) (The Olympus x0,7 and x0,8 is cheap and very sharp, Century are expensive for one with a 72mm back ) I do this alot!! it works! super for panoramas
-
Century Optics x0.8 infront of Isco Anamorphic lens works really well , this gives super wide anamorphic image no vingetting also try the Olympus x0.8 and X0.7 both are very good and work infront of my anamorphics they also sharpen up the image too which is a nice bonus!
