1. Is there any info about the sensor being multi aspect? 4:3 would be welcome for the anamorphic crowd.
2. Would love to see some concrete pricing on the F5. 15 grand seems to be a little pricey for what it is (it's awesome, no doubt.) but with how fast technology is moving...and the fact that BMC can do 2.5k raw for 3 grand.... again, I think 15 is a little too much to ask.
3. Bait & Swtich. Oldest trick in the book.
4. Glad you asked some tough questions regarding price and performance compared to the GH2. Sounds like the guy was squirming there for a bit.
5. I really want one. 120Fps sounds like a lot of fun in a music video. When does it come out?

Film Convert

Hey all, I've been messing around with the demo for this program, and I must say, it's pretty impressive....As an absolute novice at grading, it can certainly get me the look I'm after without much fuss. Too bad they only have a plugin version for the PC. http://www.filmconvert.com/ The company said they've got hold of a GH2 and will be looking at doing a LUT for it... (can't recall where I read it) I'd love to see Andrew do a full-fledged review and put it though it's paces.... Anyone else have any thoughts on this?
7. I have one & use it quite often on the gh2. Lovely lens, and pretty damn fast for a 20mm. The filter assembly rotates when focusing, so forget about cpl filters.
8.
and is lured into the delusion that his grading skills will top those of the top engineers. It sounds promising for people who believe that by being more flexible in grading they will get a special kick.
I respectfully call "BULLSHIT!" sir. BMC footage has been the easiest thing I've ever graded. Including DSLR stuff. It's riduculously simple to work with in Adobe Camera Raw. If that scares you, use ProRes.... it's still better than 8 bit video.
9. Got any clips with that lens, Andy? ...oh yeah, and how wide of a taking lens can you use with that thing on a GH2?
10. 1) No- make your own clamp. 2) no, it's a heavy beast. I'd recommend rails. 3) You focus both lenses, unfortunately. 4) 5 feet or so. FWIW, It's a gorgeous piece of glass. Much sharper than my Kowa 16S. Not so convenient, though.
11. I've got one & it's sharp as hell. 50mm on a GH2 is good, and it doesn't quite vingnette with a 35mm taking lens, although the knob is visible. Now about that knob, it feels like you could hook a follow focus system up to it directly as it is indented & might fit the gears if they're fine enough.... and that would allow you to pull focus. I got my lens for $30. For that price, how could I say no?
12. Hey all, Here's my first music video shot with the Panasonic GH2. I've done several with the 60d, and working with the GH2 was a serious step up. Such crisp images! :) Numerous vintage primes were used for various scenes, as well as a Glidecam HD1000, and even my Kowa Anamorphic for a few of the "sun shots" although I kept the image squeezed. This one was pretty tough to edit, I could only go four about 4 hours at a time before becoming too queasy. Still though, I think it turned out pretty good. FWIW, the audio mix was by Fredrik Nordstrom & Henrik Udd. If you're into metal that might mean something :)
13. Thanks for sharing! That's great news... the only problem is now how do I control the Iris on my Olympus 12mm?
14. Hey gang, Just a short clip I put together the other night at a concert.... Couldn't get close to the band, the venue was seriously overcrowded. https://vimeo.com/48690353
15. Wonderful stuff! I'm going to have to look at that Driftwood patch....
16.
I remember this well with the DSLRs, all the discussion was about the poor codec, lack of grading flexibility, no 4-2-2, blah blah blah. Now we have raw, and we still can't win. They are saying you should get it right in camera! When we really did need to get it right in-camera with picture profiles etc. on DSLRs, nobody mentioned getting it right in camera, they were all mentioning 'you can't fix it in post so these aren't professional cameras'. Damned if we do, damned if we don't, with some people. The negativity is astounding.
Same thing happened in the pro audio world.... first if you weren't recording to tape, then if you're not recording with Pro Tools. Snobs live on the forums, no matter what discipline. FWIW, I can't wait to get my hands on the BMCC.... grading the raw footage that Brawley put up had to be the easiest thing I've ever done in post-work. I couldn't believe how little effort it took to get it looking great.
17. FWIW, I played around with some of the J. Brawley footage & my jaw hit the floor. In terms of grading, it doesn't take a lot of effort to get great results. All that dynamic range makes this a "killer app" IMO. Not really looking forward to the workflow, however... and all that proxy conversion. It will be a pain in the ass. However, my primary work is Music Video, so for that application, the BMC makes sense. For live concerts, however, I'll be sticking with my pair of hacked GH2's.
18. Super Takumars are excellent & affordable. I've got the 20,24,28,35 (both f2 & f3.5), 50, 55, 135 & 300 mm versions, all relatively inexpensive, except for the 20 & 24 which are somewhat collector's items. Careful with the 35 f2 & 50mm, as they have thoriated lens elements (very low level, they're safe to use) which yellow over time. A few days in bright sunlight can clear this out, however. 19. That looked fantastic! Thanks for sharing... I'll have to get one :)
20. Hey guys, Starting to get a little collection of anamorphic lenses going.. I've got the Century 1.33, an Isco 1.75 (coming in the mail next week), Kowa 2X and Schneider 2X. Any suggestions for a 1.5X squeeze anamorphic? An Iscorama is out of the question: They're overvalued, IMO. I'm looking for something sharp, edge to edge. Thanks, -0z-
21. Hey Andy, Just laid my hands on a mint Schneider super Cinelux 2X... it's freakin' gorgeous. Razor sharp from edge to edge, flares beautifully. Any suggestions for mounting/adapting it to a rig? I'm looking for a collar & perhaps a thread adapter. Tia, -0z-
