The Logmar Super 8 camera uses 3D printed parts in this prototype form. Interesting that they're trying to keep the format alive. I almost bought a camera a while back but then realised how much it costs to develop and digitise... better drop those shooting ratios.... http://www.filmkorn.org/sensational-a-new-super-8-camera-from-denmark/

I like the rating system, it's a good quick overview. Looks like another camera is wrecked by AVCHD.... sighs...

You could get a Speedbooster for Micro Four Thirds, turning the G6 into APSC size. Though that might not help with Konica AR glass ( not that I know about it) other than that NEX 5n is now very cheap and good It won't stand up to brutal grading any more than the FS700 does, but it's about the same, give or take. Not quite as well implemented AVCHD.

I've owned this kit for four years and even worn out as it is it still works, so it's good for SLR. Fluid heads are a bit nicer, but gimbal is all important too. The price is decent, though not exceptional.

It's a cool idea and well done, I'd been thinking about doing a short from a mobile POV too, you bet me to it ;) I love the atmosphere and grade in the apocalyptic shots! It's likely that the quote at the end puts people off, the film's message itself is valid and powerful without comparison to Adventist texts, even if that's the intention, and I'd say it's actually more impactful, as people then make up their own mind rather than feeling they're being preached to, which is notoriously unpopular on the internet. If you want to drive traffic to the site and get more feedback, I think the film on its own would be powerful enough, and without the quote at the end people would be much more likely to visit your page and engage with the piece Just my two cents!.

Sample Video - Comparing The Sony Rx10, A7R And Fs100

RX10 looks lovely! The price tag is quite high though... given 6 months it'll be cheaper... -
8 Cinema DNG shots from Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera raw

Here's another, the camera (in good hands here) produces lovely images, I'm really enjoying playing with these -
Why does one microphone sound different from another?
jgharding replied to acuriousman's topic in Cameras
Here's a great article from my former employer on the subject: http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/1995_articles/jun95/microphones.html -
That is absolutely and truly the most awful attempt at a film I've ever seen in my entire life. I'd take a thousand of that fellas films on 550 and 60d before I'd watch that 6K heap of shit again... At least Tommy Wiseau is funny. I can't believ e Red (and they did) associated themselves with that, then pulled it later! What were they thinking?

Some interesting parts are how "5D MKii was an accident for Canon" How the dual-pixel AF was hidden in the C-series cameras, and it's just firmware activation. He does mention "we have to compress raw for a CF card", so perhaps they will have raw video in an SLR body at some point. It'd be good if so, though I'm not so sure it'll happen any time soon...

New H.265 codec on test - ProRes 4444 quality for 1% of the file size
jgharding replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
An interesting piece here on YouTube using VP9 for 4K content. http://www.hdtvtest.co.uk/news/youtube-4k-201311203451.htm The licensing hasn't been sorted yet for H265, so yes, it will be a while before we see it. VP9 looks like a good option though -
Looks lovely! I still shoot with 600D too, the other day I shot on 600D in the morning and Red Epic in the afternoon, was a mad day, but just goes to show! The post is lovely on this video

New H.265 codec on test - ProRes 4444 quality for 1% of the file size

I'd like to see compressed raw like RedCode available for all capture, and this crazy codec for delivery. That'd be aces all round. -
I engaged in a debate on Canon rumors where I argued that Nikon may be bought by Sony... I think I'm going to state it again! It's certainly a possibility over the next decade, don't ya think? Though it's far more likely they'd buy Olympus first...

In my experience fluid is just better. I own a 501HDV but often use hired gear. The Sachtler DSLR is great...

8 Cinema DNG shots from Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera raw
jgharding replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
I had a quick go with a shot, It's great, there's a lot to play with! I don't know how I blew the bit on the sign in such a strange way, but I was going pretty quickly... I think with plenty of post time and good forethought this quality is enough for any film that's worth shooting. -

"Hideous Monkeyshit" is the new official term for bad Vimeo "test" videos -
Don't pin too many hopes on 7D2... I thgink that will be an incredibly conservative update. Only ML could make it worthwhile.
-
If this is firmware, then they hid dual-pixel AF in the C100? That means it's in the C300 too, and they just kept it a secret til 70D...
-
Precisely, they take raw stills in a sequence, so they do indeed take pictures. They don't take 16 and up MP photos because they don't downscale from still sensors, they're designed as video cameras
-
Yeah it'll sell I think and revitalise Nikon SLRs sales, Nikon users are usually the more purist of photographers, they'll love it. I must admit it just looks lovely. But that f-mount is such an annoyance. They should've gone mirrorless with active F adapter bundled! And that price, and that battery... and so on So I'll just keep the 5D MKiii as it does everything better, apart from look hot. I'm just not shallow enough to swap the best all-rounder for a pretty new comer ;) ...

The controls look absolutely brilliant. I'd love Canon to steal this and put it in a full-featured still and video DSLR. Though we all know the reason for these retro cameras is the hipster "authentic, real, artisan" marketing bollocks, I am a sucker for these ergonomics. I have a Contax RTS II and it is art. The most beautiful viewfinder, it's perfect. I don't see why, just because there is a screen on the back, we can't the haptic joy of real 35mm cameras. The nature of the human hand didn't change when digital arrived, but for some reason, controls became focused around how processors work rather than how people work. Now we work for those machines of loving grace, rather the other way round. It's such a shame Contax disappeared. Just too many mis-steps I suppose. The AX had amazing film shift technology that someone should steal for digital. Also, the N1 was the first full-frame digital SLR. 6MP! Noisy above ISO 100 though. Imagine that! We're so spoiled...
-
Also such a shame the Penelope Delta digital died :(

You're welcome, it's great to know that I actually helped someone! A lot of readers were so violently negative about it, climing I was "stealing" pages from audio and so on. totally bizarre. There's still no equivalent anywhere either... Still the magazine focused on their core market again, and I'm no longer there, so no more video section :(
-
Awesome! :D Here's the section i ran (now sadly dead) http://www.soundonsound.com/videomedia It's a great mag, though I'm not so much into studio production now, so only read occasionally, but I'm still in touch with all those there, they're a fountain of knowledge I also wrote two opinion pieces that apply to video as well, one about gear lust, and one about whether things are better than one another or just different... http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/jul11/articles/sounding-off-0711.htm http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/feb12/articles/sounding-off-0212.htm
