  1. Another interesting quote form that article mentioned just above:   Lucas predicted that after that meltdown, “You’re going to end up with fewer theaters, bigger theaters with a lot of nice things. Going to the movies will cost 50 bucks or 100 or 150 bucks, like what Broadway costs today, or a football game. It’ll be an expensive thing. … (The movies) will sit in the theaters for a year, like a Broadway show does. That will be called the ‘movie’ business.”
  2. Sorry, I can't amend the title, I meant 5D MKiii
  3. Yeah Suckerpunch was just a wankfest graphics showreel.
  4. https://vimeo.com/67934251#   http://19lights.com/wp/downloads/   I cannot test this, just FYI!
  5. Look at this scene from an older Superman movie. Look! They have a conversation! and there's a script!   WOAH!   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Bb78jAYhcc
  6. Probably true! Crowdfunding he'd make the goal in an hour.
  7. Part of an interesting article on film viewing habits, it relates to a recent piece on money destroying the movies:   "He also hinted that he may never make another film, and Lynch blames the profit obsessed movie industry and the death of avant-garde cinema for his ''depressing'' lack of a future movie career."   http://entertainment.stv.tv/showbiz/325148-david-lynch-slams-modern-film-viewing-habits/   He said: ''With alternative cinema - any sort of cinema that isn't mainstream - you're fresh out of luck in terms of getting theatre space and having people come to see it.   ''Even if I had a big idea, the world is different now. Unfortunately, my ideas are not what you'd call commercial, and money really drives the boat these days.''   David, who is married to actress Emily Stofle, added: ''So I don't know what my future is. I don't have a clue what I'm going to be able to do in the world of cinema.   ''And television is way more interesting than cinema now. It seems like the art-house has gone to cable.''
  8. Actually i think I should have said: Grading before editing is the wrong way round, unless all you're shooting is a test video for online. For anything else, you'll want to edit your piece first with some little proxies, then when you're happy with the cut, return to the raw for grading. That kind of discipline works wonders for workflow and turnaround, and is more likely to result in a focused piece.
  9.   It's mad isn't it? It has this odd effect where you think "that's in focus" and then it actually pulls into focus... and you think ~"oh, there are the pores in her skin"
  10. I don't want to grade before I edit, nor do I want to edit DNG so proxy and reconform seems sensible. So raw to dng, then turn these DNG sequences into little H264 or DNxHD proxies for editing. Then send this sequence to AE or DaVinci and replace the H264s with the original DNG sequences for grading. Grading before editing seems like the wrong way round to me.
  11. I agree I'd prefer compressed raw to uncompressed. Red Epic is great even at 6:1 or so
  12. Checked back. Didn't dream this press release.    *shakes head and walks away*
  13. Since using the Epic recently I found out just how unforgiving 4K is. The 550D is quite kind in comparison, you cover a lot with a bit of grain and softness! Go watch any old film shot on 16mm   ;)
  14. This is pretty tragic all round. It's almost like someone tried to make the wrong decision at every point.     Not that I would even get close to considering it and a piece of kit to use, but it completely discounts every single lens I own and even it didn't, the weird and tiny sensor would make them all  much longer.   This is actually amazingly poor...   People accept such a weird sensor size in the Black Magic because it offers something unique.
  15. I hear that they may indeed be 10-bit RAW on the way... still hope...
  16. Yes I'm a Cinestyle fan too, though it's uncool now ;)   I love your grade, it really the stability that needs work, only cos it's distracting. Viewers are quite forgiving if your piece is compelling, and the soundtrack is a great choice. Sort a bit of a better stabiliser I think   And make a full short film !
  17. It's cool! I like the colour grading, it looks very film like, though there's quite a bit of distracting jello... you maybe need to alter your rig to make it more stable... The guy who had his bike stolen wasn't very convincing at acting though.   It's a nice little piece, makes me want to know the story. What sort of picture profile did you use?
  18. I use HPZ800 workstation and it's pretty good for now. If I were doing 4K raw every day I'd want this, but for now I'm good with what I have!   Mosly I end up cutting C300 so these machines would be overkill! Most delivery is still SD...   They do look very cool and clever though   All the above is very valid for production environments. The premium you pay is for predictability and parity between systems, upscale and downscale without tech support.
  19. I love Coney Island, I still have HX9V footage from there that I haven't cut...   The best thing is it cost him 300 dollars a week to hire! Shit, I wish you could hire one in the UK for 200 pounds a week
  20. It all depends what people are willing to pay I suppose! To me all these prices seem mental, they weren't that expensive a short while ago, they don't seem to rare as they're always on ebay and even when they cheaper they seemed like a hassle to use to me! But I'm probably not the best person to answer so perhaps I should be quiet!   If in doubt you could ebay at 99p start and let the market decide over 10-day auction. That way you'll get what it's actually worth and guarantee a sale
  21. It is great for anyone who really needs this kind of power right now, and there are a few people like that. I'm sure the rest will wait a while til it's cheaper.   It's interesting that Intel use Apple to showcase their new technology now.   In fact it's a little beyond that, they've already upgraded Thunderbolt before it even reached the PC of anyone I know! Thunderbolt 1 was only ever on one computer of someone I know, now it's old news. That's quite a "hype sell"
  22. It looks lovely, and is a great way of redesigning the PC.   I think the downside will be mad cost for the initial system, for all the bespoke parts and any upgrades, if they are possible beyond a limited degree.   Lovely as it is, I doubt I'll ever have one.
  23. Indeed, it's really "horses for courses". If you want wide, sharp slow motion with deep depth of field, the RX100 is the best for budget.    If you want cinematic portraits for narrative film-making with shallow depth-of field, then the 600D can nail it.
  24. It's a tough situation, because no-one likes selling on eBay, the fees are mental and buyers treat you like a full-time shop, but outside of that things can get hairy.   There seem to be a ton of users who don't actually chat on here or help out, but just come in with their first post trading in the Anamorphic section or advertising their eBay listing, or variously hyping up prices for duff goods. I suppose that's part of supply and demand, but it's a bit sad. I have to admit since that eBay thread turned up I stopped bothering to look for stuff there, because I assume anything mentioned there will be bought by some hyped up loony with too much money or one of those shops who try and buy everything so they can jack up the prices to stupid buy nows.   I agree that wire transfers are nuts, there's no trace-ability like there is between bank accounts and the like, they are best avoided. There's a reason crooks love them.   Something about introducing the transfer of money and goods to a community based on mutual help and everyone trying to make the best films they can on a shoestring, adds something of a sour note, so I suppose there is a case for removing such transactions from a public forum. I don't envy being in the position of having to make such a decision though...   With regard to this thread as soon as I saw the bidding by post I thought "this is going to go horribly wrong", and it seems to have melted down rather spectacularly. So at least putting a stop to any future thread auctions could be a good plan.   Have fun everyone!
