Interesting tests…still do not seem to be definitive…I'm thinking extremely fast glass or bust for low light is the answer for the GH4. Still waiting for someone/anyone to explain this to me: (which is right up there with the Yeti and the Loch Ness Monster as great mysteries of the world)::

Agree 100%. I was able to use the 1D C and the skin tones look fantastic right out of the gate. However even at $10 grand (with the discount) I believe the cam is overpriced. Save the money and spend some extra time in post.

I must have crossed a black cat somewhere within the last 2 weeks. I've had to send back multiple lenses and the GH4 itself for numerous issues. Seems I am close to getting some gear that works until today.. ..When I opened my new Metabones Nikon to 4/3 speed booster..and when I picked it up, it rattles like a baby's toy...and sounds like there is a broken piece of glass shaking about on the inside. Now I'm not shaking it like a Champagne bottle!.. Still waiting for the Sigma 18-35 to arrive, but in the meantime, can someone who already owns a Meta Speedbooster tell me straight out - Does it rattle and sound like a piece of glass is broken inside of it - while barely picking the damned thing up??..or did I (yet again) purchase a bad piece of equipment?? Thanks guys

Nice! Held up well against the much more expensive C100

Yes..picture profile and of course post pro..You will need much more post if you use native lenses..if you want that "filmic" look..sorry to use that banned word :) The Olympus 75mm 1.8 is sharp as hell..no stabilization but great reach Panny/Leica 42.5mm is even sharper and has OIS, however its $1,600 (this might be the best lens right now for 4/3 native) Voightlander 17.5mm 0.95 stopped down to 1.4 is very sharp..but looks really cool wide open..no stabilization but has the look you want

Any of you guys notice a difference since you've updated to the new 1.1 firmware? Wondering if I should be looking for anything specific? Thanks
-
If anyone has any new Links to add to these please do. Hopefully we'll start seeing some narrative on the GH4 soon. The cam has been out long enough I think at least professional shorts will start popping up.

New cam works much better..thanks guys

I was told by one of the main guys at B and H that you simply cannot get any sharper than than the 12-35mm for Lumix. I believe anything native will inherently have the edge (on sharpness). The look is something else all together, but no doubt you could tweak the 12-35 and make it look less video-ish..too bad the lens isn't faster.

Shooting 4K for 2K on the Panasonic GH4 plus pre-review short film
lafilm replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
Hmmm…I'm thinking major Neat Video..but it could just be settings. It seems everyone has their take on a custom profile, but the Lumix seems much different than a 5D2/3..the Canon's pretty much everyone used similar profile..a shame the photographer of the piece refuses to talk about his 'work". -
Shooting 4K for 2K on the Panasonic GH4 plus pre-review short film

Yes this video posted above called "Church Dark" is shockingly good in low-light using the GH4. Does anyone know the settings for this, and if not, has anyone been able to duplicate in their own videos the type of low-light performance here? I've seen nothing that can match it for near dark, so maybe the fact that the guy said it was shot on a GH4 was just a joke? -
Thank you jon and leeys... The grinding will not go way..I have decided to send the camera back..I do appreciate the help and hopefully the new cam will be much better, Thanks again
-
leeys - thanks Yes, it's real tight...However, it does make a 'grinding' noise when I put the lens on…it does click into place..but Before it clicks tight is when I hear the grinding noise. I too thought it was because its a new mount, but I've never heard sound/grinding on a new cam before...I have always been a Canon user…first time with 4/3..not sure now..Please let me know if you have grinding sound on your cams?...thanks again.

Quick question for GH4 users; I finally got my new GH4 in the mail...first step was to attach new 42.5 Panny/Leica and Voightlander 17.5…both lenses are quite tough to attach. They do go on and click in place, but I feel like I'm going to break them. Have to turn both of them quite hard for them to fit. Is this normal for GH4's?...my Canon lenses go on extremely smoothly…(I never owned a mirrorless camera before). Is this because the body of the GH4 is so small?..I don't have any other lenses to test. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Look forward to it JCS. I think you may be used to Canon. They have nailed color just about right out of the box (C Log is fantastic btw) but not always necessary. Sony s-log needs/wants/must to be color corrected/graded. It's designed for that. Yes..means more work. If you're not excellent with CC, or cannot afford to pay a top colorist for your film..I would avoid the A7s.

So last night I finally got my hands on the A7s. A friend of a friend is a dp and invited us over to see his new cam. Played with it for a couple hours. Lowdown: the smallest cam (canon guy here) I've ever held. Light. I mean real light. Too light to be honest. So small (i do have large hands) and i've never held the A series before, so I was a bit shocked. Still pics were real nice. Uploaded straight away and you can see the full frame magic. Video - forget about any handholding. The rolling shutter (just looking through the EVF) was absolutely abysmal. The worst I have ever seen. Once on Adobe, seemed worse. Don't care about specs on this, Im telling you worse than 5D2. Unusable. Jello? Where is that Bill Cosby commercial when you need it? The worst I have ever seen. I'm shocked more people have not come out and said this. This cam will need a rig..and frankly you better not be doing too much movement on that rig. I would not buy the cam because of it's size/weight ratio..but If I was a Sony fan, the RS/Jello would kill it for me. Hopefully it's fixed in the next ver..and they make it larger. On the tripod very slow/not moving it looked very nice. If you imagine handholding your Guerrilla film, you need to look elsewhere. I'm telling you forget about this cam for indie films. (except specialty shots) Hope this helps some of you guys who have not actually touched the cam yet. EDIT: the lowlight was better than the Canon 1D C - as much as it pains me to admit it :) Hopefully Can puts this tech in a new cam soon. With better ergo.

Thanks Michael.. Jon...No expectations. I wanted to see the GH4 in a real world setting...professional actors, director/dp who knows what he's doing etc.. I find gear reviewers who put out reviews/specs informative..however..until I actually see a narrative done with a particular cam I reserve judgement.
-
Has anyone seen any short films (narrative/actors/story etc..) shot with the GH4? Any film trailers shot with GH4? I've only seen camera reviews but nothing narrative. Would love to see someone shooting actors with this cam. Maybe re-watching the trailers for the indie film "Upstream Color" should answer all my questions.. Any Links would be appreciated.

LOL :D I guess it's hard for people to not argue on any forum. I was on an NFL forum and guys were threatening to kill each other over a game last year…now, people are going tilt and 'falling down' over camera gear…It is entertaining...if not disturbing what modern tech to communicate has come to…between strangers no less.

Over Iso 6400??...I think maybe Iso 800…1600 with massive neat video….Unless I missed some major setting in cam?…don't own camera, but have seen many tests/shorts…Please let me know if you've found the magic recipe for iso 6400…thanks. -
A7S Short Film with quick thoughts and downloadable files

Rolling Shutter - thanks -
I did say spherical aberration but you're right..I meant chromatic..thanks for the info Leeys This looks like the #1 lens for the GH4
-
Haha..great vid!..terrible RS (worse then 5Dll)..but the image is very nice..I prefer it to the BMPC. Thanks Ed

JG - I don't think it's the heat. Don't think they put much effort into controlling RS - (had to laugh at my own joke - you're right, it's god awful). Why would they make a product better than their own F55? Would not make logical sense. No?
