  1. I mentioned this quite some time ago on this site. Shane Hurlbut was the DP on a Canon 1D C short film. It's called "The Ticket". He screened it for an audience (director was in house, cannot remember her name) in LA if I remember correctly at the Los Angeles Film School on Sunset Blvd. Viewing the short on a 75 foot screen was a revelation. Yes, the short itself was full of cliches and weak acting. Hurlbut hammed it up in front of the director and said it was his greatest experience. Poppycock! Nontheless, the visuals were absolutely stunning. Let me repeat: Stunning. Even as a old school film guy, I really couldn't believe the images I was seeing on the big screen from a $15,000 dslr. People can debate all day long about the cam and compare it to new models, etc... However I know what I saw on the Big Screen. Used or not, it was a Brilliant move by AR to purchase a Canon 1D C. Looking forward to see what this site owner produces with it.
  2. Thanks Ebrahim. Sounds like a fun tool to use even with the additional time in post. The 1080p internal looks close to the detail of the D810 with much better low light obviously. Seems D810 has the edge on DR at low iso's? No one seems to mention the stealth factor (sans Atomos) of the A7s (even compared to Nikon/Canon dslrs). Talk about the possibility of stealing shots Say..even a restaurant/bar/nightclub scene. Not only would the A7s be allowed in the club, people would absolutely think you're messing around with a cheap toy camera. Looking forward to your work/thoughts on the A7s as you move forward.
  3. Great price on the old C100. I would still shell out the big bucks for the sequel if invested in Canon glass. Major improvements. C500 is a great price as well if you're cool with external for 4K. Ebrahim..I left you a question on another thread about the A7s...give me some details on why you dig this cam if you will. (especially compared to Nikon/Canon dslrs). You're one of the few on this board that actually uses the gear before you leave your opinions. Thanks.
  4. Haha..yea me too...but AR you're going to have to deal with the fact that the 1080p Mark ll is here to stay...many people will purchase it...and it may just creep into your nightmares...if only someone will shoot something worth a damn on this killer new cam
  5. jcs, For some reason Andrew is not getting through to you people. so (again) I will translate whats happening. The guy who owns this website just spent some serious time with the 1 DC, and as with all smart people, attitudes and opinions change..as a person gets more experience, gets older, wiser, more educated, etc..etc..Tests come and go..new tests, re-tests..and the dude does it his way because its his site. I know, it took an 8 year college education to decipher that information. As new tech reaches the owner of this site (or old tech) and he gains experience with said 'gear'...his opinion and statements (wether you like it or not) are apt to change. Again, this happens with intelligent people. I have nothing to gain by defending Andrew, (he can be confrontational himself at times..like with me)...however its tiresome to come on this website and have to scroll through the dribble of confrontational people like you...People keep continually challenging this dude on his own fucking site. Its a waste of everyones time. Andrew obviously is getting something out of dealing with idiots like you, or he would be banning people left and right. Maybe he likes a challenge, likes an argument, or whatever..however I believe he is costing himself really cool and interesting people in the industry from joining this website..when they come on here and read this bullshit...time and time again. I see it as a waste of time to challenge a dude on his own website. Get your own fucking site and challenge yourself. Yes, the 1 DC is superior to the a7s...it's also a lot more expensive, and should be. And the site owner owes you nothing. Zero. Nada. No explanation. Now go watch "Roadhouse" with a gin and tonic w/ xanax chaser.
  6. Whats this? Ebrahim, you're digging the A7s more than D810? What was the epiphany?
  7. Ahhh...no. This was an artistic decision by Canon. Yes, I agree the story sucks. Par for the course with Canon produced movies. However, the Canon c100 Mark ll (with external) is the sharpest 1080p out of the box (no 4K down). It can actually look too sharp if you don't know what you're doing.
  8. In all it's glory from Canon C100 Mark ll watch in HD on You Tube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cu6Ug0lcfag
  9. "The Word of Reid" ?!?!?! "American camera nerds" ?!?!? You're.. "Not Comfortable in a Community where certain questions are Taboo ?!?!? You better quickly find out how big Andrew's cock is before your head explodes from worry Jesus man.. that 'good sex with your wife'? - Superman is more believable You're bat shit crazy.
  10. Jesus H. Christ! Some of you people on this site need to quit playing with the pussy, and go find some! Quit jerking off on this site and questioning the dude who owns this site about his money, motives, opinions, or who he is in contact with! Nobody but psychos living at home in the basement with mommy would waste this man's time..let alone their own time -asking such asinine questions. I mean, who gives a flying fuck! Whatever Reid wants to do with his money - or how he gets it - is his own goddamn business! I know you are the same pathetic cats who believe that Bush started 9/11, Bigfoot, The Loch Ness Monster, The Wicked Witch of the West, Amelia Earhart is a 117 year old spy for Canon...and Brad never cheated on Jenn with Angelina. I've had snippets with Andrew before (all in good fun), but for Christ's sake the dude provides a great free service and quite frankly has saved me (personally speaking) time and cash. For that I thank him. Man, I know the world is a lonely place...but you idiots need to get a job, get a car, get some cash, get a girlfriend, get laid, (yes, miracles can happen)...and get a fucking life!! Leave Reid and his new 1D C alone (did I really just say Canon 1D C!? - yes Virginia, there is a Santa Claus), so he can concentrate on getting out some new video reviews. I need some answers dammitt! Andrew, hopefully you put these dogs to sleep before December 31st, so you can start 2015 with a clean slate man.
  11. Andrew, you make valid points. You must remember some people enjoy the look of S35 much more than FF. Of course much easier to pull focus (especially if you're alone). The C100 Mark ll has a 4K sensor inside. It down samples to 1080p for you, no need to deal with that in post. Advanced Hi Def image (the best in the industry in my op) and super fast turn around time. Don't get me started on the color science from Canon..it's the best in the biz. Sound (built in mic on body as well) ND's, Wide DR, Frame Guides, Zebras, False Color, Waveform, Vector. Fits perfect in the hand and lighter than a 5D3. Shoot and edit the same exact day..and the damn thing looks filmic. (yea that nasty word) However…your biggest mistake was suggesting that the new 2015 Canon C300 Mark ll 4K is going to sell for $8K…forget it...try $15 or $16K with advanced frame rates, S35, internal 4K, 3.5 pounds…and they'll sell more than any other 4K cam yet made ;)
  12. Save up your pennies guys :P http://www.hurlbutvisuals.com/blog/2014/12/shes-a-dslr-killa-canon-c100-mark-ii/
  13. Why is it not for you? What don't you like about it? As you must know, it's superior to the 5D3 in nearly every way
  14. Have to disagree with you here. D750 is noticeably sharper in slow mo (60p) D750 colors are much much better. Unless of course you're an expert, and spend hours and hours grading. Even so, I'll take Nikon/Canon for colors. Doesn't seem worth all the hassle on A7s unless you need high iso. Still, thanks for posting this. Nice work.
  15. Nice look at the Canon C100 Mark ll in the hands
  16. "He might turn out to be the greatest filmmaker in the history of cinema. We have no idea. Let him take a shot at it and we'll see if he has it". :o You my friend have a better shot with having sex with Marilyn Monroe than this happening. Yes, and I know she's dead. Good luck.
  17. LOL :D The pot of kettle is indeed hot The being said, "prestigious arts high school"? Man you need to watch films (aka, real movies) The 'video' Nikon sponsored is cow dung. On every level. This is Amateur Hour. So is the camerawork. And no, I don't have to be Stanley Kubrick to realize the Star Wars sequels all suck, and so will the new ones from JJ whats his name? Nikon blew it with their "masterpiece". If I worked at Nikon I would have let out a rumor that this was actually shot on a 5D3. And took that lie to my grave. Sorry if you feel everything in life has to be PC, and just because someone turned his camera "on" he should be lauded. Forget it man, Im way too old to give out props and lollypops to the ice cream man for showing up on time.
  18. Smith is a riot on these forums, always cracks me up :D But the dude is right, this movie is for teen-age girls. Anyone older than 18 (male or female) would fall asleep watching this. Nothing new, nothing original, just another boy meets girl loses girl, gets girl in the end. Kids are who goes to the the theaters these days, so people want to appease these adolescent minds. Shot on a DSLR. Whippeeeeee. Basic camera shots. Honestly looks like it was shot by high school film students. That being said, D810 looks a bit soft on this film. Zero depth of field on every shot is ridiculous. This makes "UPSTREAM COLOR" look like Martin Scorsese's "TAXI DRIVER" :o

    A7s Grading

Brandon, you have some nice comps there. However, the colors on the A7s are just way off on nearly every shot. Not sure what the problem is. If you were in fact attempting to shoot 'out of the box' without S-Log 2, to do a sort of comparison against the 5D3/Nikon D750/D810 to match colors, than this is yet another test that clearly shows the dominance of Canon/Nikon colors science VS Sony. It seems the best colors out of the A7s would be using S-Log 2 and doing major color correction. Out of the box with this cam just doesn't work.
  20. I would agree with that 100%. It does look pretty damn sharp/low noise at 20,000 ISO. Especially compared to the Mark 1 ver of this cam.
  21. "Yeah that's why I'm still filming on mini-dv. No point to upgrade if something better is just going to be released eventually". :D :D :D
  22. Canon C300 - Mark II - 4K The Alexa competitor also seems interesting B) http://www.canonrumors.com/2014/11/canon-cinema-eos-c300-mark-ii-will-be-4k-cr2/
