A GH4 seems like a no brainer. You get all the frame rates you don't have on the EM1, you can use all your lenses, and you don't need to work with AVCHD. There's a price drop happening now, too.

I think that's just a result of the IMAX process. I spoke to a DP who saw it projected in 4K and he said it was all tack sharp.

It's amazing how DSLRs are shaping taste. Very few films in cinema history have been shot with a frame larger than super 35 and now it's not enough. Ten years ago we were only dreaming of shooting with 16mm sized sensors in consumer level cameras.

My favourite film of the year is Two Days, One Night. It creates an amazing emotional journey from a very simple premise, and the handheld camerawork that initially appears simple or even lazy reveals itself to be beautifully attuned to the interior world of the characters. I'm not usually one for social realist or minimalist cinema but this film is really special. I agree with maxotics above, Interstellar felt immature. Looking forward to Nightcrawler. Sadly missed 20,000 Days on Earth in cinemas.

I agree with Inazuma. In a showreel focusing on your artistic viewpoint, people will forgive things like the shot of the lanterns on the water made with your first camcorder - it is a good shot, with good subject matter captured well, but in a showreel for videography a lot of your potential clients won't pick up that it was shot with an ancient camera and will be worried there's a risk you'll turn in footage like that. So I'd keep to technically great, slick looking footage in a promotional reel. I'd definitely hire you - but I'm worried my tastes don't line up with the masses on matters of cinema and video ;) Do you have any interest in narrative stuff? I think with this video, you won't have trouble getting some volunteer actors to work with you if you ever want to do a small short. You have a great eye and establish a very striking atmosphere.

I don't think broadcast sports people want to be playing with this sensor size. It's an incredibly niche lens for cinematographic use.

BMD don't need more dynamic range. They need a camera with a good form factor and without a million annoying quirks. There's plenty of room to create a more desirable follow up.

It will have better low light and DR than GH3. Count on it. Are you choosing not to buy it because it doesn't have 10 bit internal recording?

It could change the standard of video quality in the price range from the major manufacturers. You also can't underestimate the value of usability and a good feature set - while the IQ most likely won't be as good as the Blackmagics, this one will have the basic features those cameras miss, like ability to see how much is left on the card at all times. For this alone I could see it being picked up by shooters who refuse to use Blackmagic.

GX7 does have focus peaking during video. RX100s do it too.

If Panasonic include 1080P RAW, all of a sudden they'll dominate the video DSLR market. Which is why I don't believe they'll do it. But theoretically they could. It's meant to be capable of dealing with similarly high bitrates for its 4K compressed footage. Maybe the add on XLR/SDI adaptor could also function as a recorder, with CF slots? Argh, I shouldn't dream. But if this really did come true, it would be a guaranteed sale for me. I'd happily trade the extra bit of dynamic range of the Blackmagics for the practical usability of a GH camera.

As you say, Alexa is the go-to. Arri is a more trusted name, and for the most part I've seen nicer looking films shot on the Arri than the Red. Wouldn't surprise me if a lot of people in Hollywood share that impression.

Interesting post Kays. I think this camera actually sounds really nice. While there certainly seem to be some shortcomings, it sounds far better thought out than the Blackmagic CC/PCC in a number of ways. The ability to see how much storage space and battery power is remaining, and the choice to use an internal four hour battery (rather than necessitating the use of a lot of small swappable batteries) make it seem far more usable, especially for shooting without a rig. The Pocket is very cool tech but in a number of ways it's a bit of a muddle design wise - what's the point of a pocket camera that's not really usable without a rig? Yes, it's cool that it can be rigged up in any way you choose, or go stealth with it, but I would prefer a consistent design vision and a commitment to a workable form factor. I would say though, these cameras sound like they could compliment each other really nicely. Why just use one body or film stock all the time? Different shooting situations call for different tools, and after the passive M43 mount for DB is released, these two cameras could make a great raw shooting kit for use with a single set of lenses.
