  1. None of which include the ability to see live picture being displayed on a working model, 13 months later.
  2. I don't understand how Hurlbut is using the C500 and 1DC as primary cameras and Alexa as B cam (for the outdoor exteriors) on his latest shoot, Need for Speed. Is he for real? Does he truly prefer the image, or does Canon money really go that far?
  3. Perhaps the multi-aspect ratio sensor had a bit to do with the amazing detail retention in GH2 footage.
  4. I wonder where a lot of the people clamouring for 4K think their work is going to be seen? 4K TVs barely exist and won't pick up in sales for a long time. Blu-Ray tops out at 1080P. On the internet, the majority are happy with 1080P, and most people don't have 4K resolution monitors. To add to that, a lot of video is viewed on mobile devices.  Is it because you're sure your stuff is going to be projected theatrically? Almost everything shown in cinemas these days is 2K, and you don't see many complaints about that.
  5. One positive of this camera vs the GH2 that the video illustrates: big blue skies everywhere, no banding in sight.
  6. Apparently it doesn't feature the multi-aspect ratio feature, even though it's using the 18 megapixel GH2 sensor. When recording video it's a crop. Panasonic are clearly just trying to protect the non-MAR Sony sensor based GH3.
  7. Here's some footage: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3oijsASQQ6k&feature=player_embedded   Looks like GH2 to me.  Tempted to pick one of these up.
  8. Pretty fantastic. Resolution is noticeably a step down from the tack sharp BMCC. Looks more like GH2 or sharpened GH3. Which is good if you want to use those as a B cam, I guess. Dynamic range appears very similar to the big brother, as promised. Amazing for a camera that tiny. At $1000, I think it's a no-brainer to any M43 filmmaker.
  9. You speak as though masterpieces of film haven't been lost to the ages.
  10. For what it's worth, their most popular lens, the 12mm f/1.6, is an original.
  11. Oh really? Seems I was mislead. In that case, I'm sorry for spreading false information about the project. For all my negativity on this forum, I have to say that I truly do want to see it succeed.
  12. It is stupid. Fingers crossed that Vitality figures something out. By the way, you can actually shoot 60p on the EU GH3. Just select slow mo 40% and it records at 60p and outputs a 24p file. If you don't want slow mo you can just speed up the clip, it looks fine. No sound, but if you're using an external recorder that's not a problem.
  13. I must say, it's a very compelling product for $3000.
  14. For sure, but I think a lot of people who donated weren't thinking this through. I certainly don't imagine they foresaw an outcome like this.
  15. Blackmagic have shown they can actually finish a camera and ship some units, which is more than Digital Bolex can lay claim to. I'm not convinced that DB will ever be finished. I'd love it to be, because the idea of a tiny upstart challenging the majors in even a small way is very appealing, but the constant production delays don't inspire confidence. They recently announced that they have to do a redesign because the sensor doesn't fit in the body. That's after showing off the 'production model' body on their site, mind. I can't help but feel really bad for these guys. Any hype that still remained for their product is gone. They really pushed the novelty of being able to use old super 16 lenses on a digital body as a selling point for their camera. Well, now you can do that for $2000 less. The other big differentiator was the global shutter. Well, now for $1000 more, you get that, as well as a super 35mm sensor and the option to shoot at 4K. You miss out on uncompressed raw, but you've got to make a trade-off somewhere at that price point. Granted, some people want global shutter and super 16 sensor, but BMD have essentially pushed DB's niche offering into a far smaller niche margin. This is a battle the Digital Bolex guys can't win. There's no way they can compete with a corporation like Blackmagic's economies of scale. That <$1000 mark is a magic price point, and BMD obviously know it. The other thing BMD have going for them is consumer confidence. For all their problems in getting the cinema camera out the door, you know that if you go with Blackmagic you'll have access to a global support network, you'll get firmware updates, the company won't fold or give up on the product, and third party accessories and software will support the camera. None of this is guaranteed with the first product from a small upstart. For all my sympathy for little David being crushed by Goliath, I have to say that the quote in the OP is about the most disingenuous and douchey thing they could say. Come on guys, grow up. Perhaps the ones I should really feel sorry for are the Kickstarter backers who dropped $3K+ and still don't have a product they pre-paid for, may never see it, and may not even be interested any more if they do. This whole saga is a bitter cautionary tale about crowdfunding.
  16. Vitality finally got his GH3 the other day. If he at least adds worldcam support and removes the recording limit, which should be easy enough, I'll be happy with the GH3. Looking like it will be a Pocket Cam/GH3/RX100 kit for me. Pretty happy with that.
  17. The Leica sensor is optimised for superb still quality and the (possible) Blackmagic sensor is optimised for superb video quality. Trying to create a jack of all trades sensor in this price range results in compromises one way or the other.
  18. BMD didn't recieve payment for cameras they never shipped. Deposits or full payments made in advance are usually retained by the retailer and are fully refundable until the product is actually shipped to the customer.
  19. Looks like it. Good find (last year). If this is the supplier and sensor, I'm very confident they'll ship in July. It may seem hard to believe, but before the BMC launch, BMD had a reputation for always shipping their products on time. Without issues with the sensor supplier, they shouldn't have any difficulty manufacturing BMPCC's in large quantities.
  20. We won't know for sure until it's released, but I would think grading 1.2-1.5x compressed raw would be virtually identical to uncompressed raw for our purposes.
