Is the currently sold 12mm on SLR Magic's site the one that focuses in the 'correct' (non-Nikon) way?

I think you could put the headphone adaptor/stereo mic on the SCA adaptor and use it at the same time as the EVF in the hot shoe.

Detail does seem closer to GH2 than 5D, which is nice.

The wording in promo material at Photokina seemed to hint that you have the choice between 24p/30p/60p (NTSC) 24p/25p/50p (PAL).

Another interesting aspect of this video is how it demonstrates that all the talk of '2.3x crop' is nonsense. You are not using the full sensor when shooting video on a 5D, so the 8mm on BMC was quite a bit wider than the 16mm on the MkIII! To match the BMC field of view, I think you'd need a 14mm, and that's the widest rectilinear available for 35mm EOS. And of course we shouldn't even be comparing the 'crop' from 3:2 35mm stills to a 16:9 video camera, but that's another rant.

It's also a fully manual lens, unlike the Tokina.

The wide open aperture 'DSLR look' is ridiculous. I see so many ads and promo videos these days that look ugly and frankly amateurish. Also...BMCC resolves so much more it's insane.

BMC killed it. Amazing stuff.

For me, the number one addition that's necessary is worldcam support. Seems that's against Panasonic's strategy, so I'll be waiting for the hack (fingers crossed) to add support for all the framerates before I pick one up.

But yes, it's definitely true that the market demands a good dedicated interchangeable lens video camera for under $2k.

Wow, so RAW is a negative, and not for those who value story above aesthetics? Okay then. Might as well go shoot the best story in the world on an iPad. Not much post flexibility...but the lack of options will free you up creatively! They should start listing this 'feature' on the box.

The moire on the GH3 is extremely disappointing, and it got me thinking. As long as we're shooting videos with sensors designed for still images, we're always going to suffer from it. A truly balanced hybrid like the GH2 seems to have been a mere fluke. It's all well and good to see projects like BMCC and Digital lolex, but there's another gaping hole in the video camera market needing to be filled, and that's for a small interchangeable lens camcorder with a M4/3 or larger sensor designed for video, priced at $1500 or below for the body. A camera like that would be huge with low budget filmmakers, guerilla shooters, kids who want to make backyard movies, you name it. The market is crying out for it right now. Sony have come the closest to providing it, but they've intentionally crippled them by reusing NEX and A99 sensors. What they are doing with that line is as bad as if Canon had put Powershot sensors in their Vixias. Now that I've looked at the video, I have to admit I'm very impressed. Yeah, it's early, but that tiny glimpse seemed to destroy Canon in colour reproduction. What I was saying earlier was that if you have the money to burn to buy a camera for the purposes of filmmaking, you might as well buy a dedicated video camera that shoots raw, like the BMCC or an Ikonoskop (a company that seems a bit like the Leica of video, really) and accessories. But if you have a passion for street photography [i]and [/i]filmmaking and don't mind paying a bit extra for quality, I can sort of see the price being justifiable for hybrid use. Sort of. Damnit, now I want one!

There's a microphone adaptor set with a stereo mic. Are they serious? Anyone who can afford a Leica M and lenses for their video production would be better served with BMC or Ikonoskop.

Probably just run of the mill mild corporate espionage. There's no way that in this day and age Canon and Nikon would be able to hide such major projects from each other.

[/quote] Sometimes you want something small and light for inconspicuous guerilla filming, or for shooting in cramped spaces and other inconvenient locations with minimal equipment. The BMCC is actually quite heavy, especially with an external battery rigged up. A smaller camera also allows for Steadicam shots without the need for a huge rig like the Pilot. The GH3 also has a killer feature that the BMCC lacks...overcranking. For all of these reasons I think it would make a great B cam to the BMCC M43. Plus, it's the camera I'd use if I wanted to shoot something quickly and publish it the same day. Bonus: you can take on-set stills with it using the same lenses you brought with you for your A cam.

All-I for 24/25p and 50mbps inter-frame for slow mo shots? I can live with that.

That video totally sold me on the camera. Great marketing, and yeah, they're really targeting filmmakers.
