  1. Yeah, my D800 can show some hot pixels with really long exposure land/seascapes too. I'm glad Lightroom is taking care of them these days. I don't like using LENR because I then need to wait the equal amount of time of my exposure to shoot another shot. At twilight with an exposure of several minutes this is a no-go. In the past, I just lived with it and removed them manually, but glad I don't have to anymore.
  2. Astral photography isn't the first thing I think of when I consider the type of photographer I am, but the experience of researching and going to this spot and tirelessly researching the techniques it took to get this shot I think really does sum me up. This is why I love this forum and what Andrew has done with EOSHD. I'm constantly reading what you all share and love the community aspect of being a creative person in this day and age. I very easily could've died getting this shot as I almost was bitten by a rattlesnake in the dark when helping another photographer with her camera settings. Makes it an even more memorable experience for me.
  3. Making people feel better about themselves makes them then feel superior to others and leads to war? I'd best be careful how I treat my wife!
  4. From Panasonic, in case you haven't seen it: http://lumixlounge.com/2015/09/vloglactivationissue/
  5. Yeah, I didn't do much but quick and dirty exposure boost and a little saturation. Yeah, this is what I'm thinking.
  6. From my quick test it appears I need to really ETTR. Perhaps this will also help with everyone's noise? I did a quick shot of my parrot since nobody else is here and I look like hell. ;-) BTW, this wasn't exposed to the right so it appeared really dark when I tried Cineon Converter. AaronChicago, does your footage appear dark when you add Cineon, or are my defaults out of whack?
  7. I'll still be buying V-log, but it sure is nice to play with it since I can't get it yet.
  8. You guys have probably already seen this, but WOW. Looks fantastic. One shot with moire is curious, but other than that I'm super impressed. https://vimeo.com/139130557
  9. 120 megapixels. Now you'll get so see in great detail how poorly some of your lenses perform. ;-)
  10. Andrew, thanks a lot for working hard to improve the image of this camera. I'm excited to try some different things out with Log Converter, now I just need to find the time to do it and play around so I can figure out what works for me.
  11. This is untouched aside from adding the LOG convert and 1D-C LUT and is using the EOSHD cineV profile. I used the camera's cloudy WB as there were a lot of overhead clouds, but then the sun poked through the trees here. I'd expect it to be warm and the magenta is much better, but I'm still seeing it. Any thoughts? I don't have a 1D-C so not sure if this is expected of the look. I've also attached the original with lots of green cast from the grass, but it is much brighter.
  12. I don't have any CineV either. I believe this was shot in the Natural profile. I'm going to try your profile in the next few days because when I apply the 1D-C LUT everything looks pretty magenta. With that said, this image is with EOSHD LOG Converter to Kodak Vision 5213. Very minor adjustments from there, as it's bed time :-)
  13. I'm in your camp on this. There are so many positives to what Sony is doing with these cams, but from what I've seen so far from the A7s and the A7rII i'd rather save up and spend the extra cash on the mini Ursa, if it ever comes out ;-) wink, wink. I love the low light abilities and small form factor of the Sony cams, and am super tempted to replace my D800 with an A7RII for stills/B Cam, but the image in BM cams trumps all sony cams to me. I know this is all in everyone's personal opinion, but to me image is first, all the other stuff, even if kind of a PITA is workable. I may change my mind as more comes out from this cam, as I don't want to be so stubborn to not see the reality, but I can spot Sony footage immediately, and that isn't that great of a thing.
  14. What about the Blackmagic Micro Cinema Camera?
  15. I have to disagree with many posts here. I went with the cheap adapters in the beginning. Mainly because I could not afford a more expensive one. I'm not saying that expensive is always better, but if your adapter doesn't fit or becomes loose in a short time because it is cheaply made you are going to regret it. Mid-shot while you're adjusting your aperture ring your shot is going to be ruined by any play in rotation. I bought a Novoflex a few years ago with my GH3 and would never buy a cheap adapter again. This adapter still works perfectly and fits like a glove. Perhaps others have gotten lucky, but I personally wouldn't chance it. Not sure if there are better options these days, but aside from a Metabones adapter for specific reasons that would be my go-to for sure.
  16. I'm in full agreement with this. Sounds like some of you need to go out and create YouTube and Vimeo groups for the cameras of your choice, then moderate them for no things that bother you.
  17. Great post, Andrew. As an animator, I enjoyed reading the comparison of filmmaking and animation. For me the individuality of animation, especially if you work for yourself, is definitely the thing that sets it apart from filmmaking. This isn't to say you cannot be an individual in filmmaking, as I know I've been incredibly moved and inspired by some, but your point and the fact that so many are so worried about which camera, is it filmic, which LUT, how much rolling shutter, sensor isn't large enough, blah blah blah leaves the typical filmmaker in a world of hang-ups. In animation, your characters can be stick figures with squiggle motion, your world can be upside down, rolling shutter can be an effect your meant and dust on the lens is added for that one extra touch. I know because I've been caught up in the filming hangups myself, but I sure am glad I can set it aside when I want and just go create some characters. It certainly is freeing.
  18. The Interview, like all Seth Rogen films, wasn't THAT bad. There were a few funny parts. I didn't finish and wish to hell that I could have that time back, (Darjeeling Limited :-)) Just saying it was kind of what I expected. Not horrible, far from great, but the fact that world news and the question of freedom as we know it.. and a Rogen movie is the centerpiece. He must be very proud.
  19. The GH4 looks way better here. Especially toward the middle of the video and the "straight from cam" also. The a6000 skin tones and color casts remind me of my buddy's cheap Radioshack camcorder.
  20. I can tell you that ATT was horrible when I had u-verse. Streaming video was always buffering, even when I paid more. I switched to Cox here in San Diego, and haven't had the problem with AppleTV streaming or Vimeo since.
  21. I read the comments before I watched the sample. I was expecting this to be the worst piece of $hit garbage with grey blacks and atrocious everything. People are way too uptight. The flicker is annoying, but there wasn't anything about the color that said, this is dog$hit to me. If the only thing I start to nitpick is the content then the color really isn't as bad as I expected based on the comments. Nitpick as we will, but I though the reactions were a little overboard....or did I watch the wrong video? ;-)
  22. As you were leading to, wide open is soft. The 810 video that is out "Every Moment Counts" didn't appear super soft to me, so I don't think it is far off to believe the 750 should be fine. I'm looking forward to seeing more. Pretty stoked from what I've seen.
