  1. Not sure I want over-sharp anyway. My BMPCC isn't super sharp and looks great. Very pleasing to the eye. Maybe if I were producing a show for Bravo or something.
  2. Andrew, I have not used Canon products, but I was wondering how their stabilized lenses differ from Nikon's VR lenses?
  3. I agree. Still no problem in seeing the validity of the original points in this thread.
  4. Also, I'm not sure I buy that professionals and other don't do any research online. They must to even know what is available, really. I think people are just skewed toward familiarity. People will gladly sink with the ship knowing the board they cling to is the one they chiseled their initials into.
  5. I agree, Clayton. There is so much to love about the image from BMCC and BMPCC. If I were planning out a commercial or short and had everything figured out ahead of time, I would go Blackmagic. I cannot afford RED or Arri. For everything else, and that is a lot, I'm going with a GH4 or A7s. It provides everything BMCs don't: ease of use, frame rates, A7s ISO, but ease of use, and as Clayton responded with ergonomics mean everything when I'm on a job, most of the time. I have enough to stress about (audio, talent, getting there, do I have all my stuff, backups of everything, cards, batteries, lighting, etc..) If my camera requires more than others on top of that, I'm simply not grabbing it. I LOVE the image out of the BMC cameras and would never dog it, just wish they were easier to use, as they would be perfect.
  6. Lol, I had it on but forgot I turned it off to hear sound when reviewing a clip ith a client. Thanks for the reminder. BIG lesson learned. Luckily the cam is ok.
  7. I wanted to bring up one thing that happened to me yesterday shooting with the Gh4 and the BMCC Speedbooster. I've been using this combo since the GH4 came out without issue, but yesterday I was filming an event with very challenging lighting combinations so I used Custom White Balance. This may be common knowledge to some of you, but if you have Electronic Shutter on, when you try to set a Custom White Balance, that mechanical shutter activates, you hear the click and real the vibrations and realize you have a BMCC Speedbooster attached. My SP ended up stuck on my GH4, and received a message over a white screen that read something like "Turn off the camera and turn it on again" but that did nothing and I still could not remove the SB only more clicks each time. Frustrated and bummed out, I set it down and wen to sleep. The next day I had another shoot, so I went t put my GH4 away and went for the BMPCC instead, but when I went to move the GH4, I decided to give it one last try. Speedbooster came off without hesitation. All I can say is, don't use Custom White Balance, if using a BMCC Speedbooster. If it's common knowledge, I apologize, but I didn't know this.
  8. Love this thread. Thanks everyone! Going to pickup a ninja 2 to try this out on the cheapest solution. Will report back.
  9. Good points, nahua and bunk, but the bmpcc, in flat prores shows the peaking extraordinarily well. My friends joke that it is scanning the scene like the Predator, lol
  10. I know I'm late to this thread, but it isn't anywhere close to the bmpcc. Not sure if the bmpc uses the same one, but you can barely see it on the GH4. I ve adjusted to setting all over, chosen different colors. Maybe it's user error, but on the bmpcc, it is plain as day and washes over the subject as you focus front to back, clearly. If what I've read elsewhere is true, that it really is too fine, the bmpcc blows it out of the water for peaking. Feels as if why even bother with it.
  11. My assumption would be to go from mic - to preamp - to GH4? Use the preamp only has a boost. Not sure if that is possible with the H4N, but maybe somone else has the answer.
  12. Not being an owner of the production cam, but the pocket cam, I'm glad I read this. Very interested in what you have upcoming.
  13. and I'm not saying RAW is everything, which clearly it is not, but it sure is nice to have and the images I've seen from the BMPC were pretty freaking outstanding. If they can obtain this level of image, with everything else the GH line of cams can do, then yes.
  14. Andrew, I have a quick question. What do you know for sure on the specs of the GH 4k? How can you be sure it will be better than the BMPC? I understand Blackmagic cameras have many limitations and fewer bells and whistles, but I haven't read anything about the GH camera including RAW. I would love to read what you've heard that makes you so sure. Thanks in advance.
