Even a 4.3" 800x480 DP4 costs $599. How much money do they make on these things? I wish smartphones had video input options... I'm already walking around with a nice 5" 1080p screen... The SmallHD 502 on-camera monitor features a Full HD, 1920x1080 LCD display. With a pixel density greater than the iPhone 6 similar to any 5" Android smartphone in the price range of $300-500 that has been released the last few years.

Is that even possible? (recording at different frame rates)

Shooting with the Samsung NX500 - a pocket 4K cinema camera
Julian replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
Sigma 8-16mm if you want very wide. Sigma 10-20mm if you want cheap wide angle (used less than $300) Tokina 11-20mm f/2.8 (or the previous 11-16mm 2.8) if you want wide + big aperture Samyang 12mm f/2.0 (comes in NX mount) -
That's a very old image, showing the Nikon 1 V1 with some 'concept' accessories that never hit the market. Even though the V1/V2/V3 aren't targeted at soccermoms they lacked 24 and 25 fps options. This is a promo movie for the Nikon 1 J4, says enough I wouldn't expect the 1 J5 will suddenly be aimed at filmmakers. The big question is WHY though. Nikon doesn't have to protect any film business. When they introduced the Nikon 1 V1 in 2011, it would have been appealing as a small video camera if it had at least proper framerates. Technically speaking, Nikon could make killer video cameras in the 1 series. We've seen what people managed to do with the 30/60 fps raw burst. They just have to stick a huge buffer in it and give it a 24 fps raw option....
-
The Nikon 1 J-series is targeted at soccer moms... if it gets 4K, probably it'll only do 30 fps - like every other Nikon 1 camera so far.

Even with the limitations it stills seems like a great deal. It's only €749, including a lens! Cheapest 4K camera on the market, and everybody expects it to have all the high end features...

Didn't you just get a Red One?

The comment below the article makes more sense.

4K for $899 with the Panasonic FZ1000 - but beware the quirks!
Julian replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
The FZ1000 must have been a perfect camera for a trip like that! Imagine lugging your 60D around with a set of lenses (and ending up with mushy footage ;)) I probably wouldn't have guessed it was shot on a relatively small sensor bridgecamera without knowing it either. Well done -
This kinda reminds me of this:

Don't you have any editing software at all? If not, you can download Adobe Premiere Pro and use the free trial for 30 days.

I think most camcorders are way less sturdy than a weather sealed dslr with a magnesium body. I hardly use camcorders but I was really surprised that a camera like the Sony AX1 is just a lot of plastic. Makes sense to keep the weight down, but feels a lot less durable than a high end dslr body.

Kipon adapters are good value in my opinion. Should be around $50 and definitely better than the ones you can find for $10.

I'd love a D7200 with 4K video and D750 like body. 4K probably is'nt going to happen but I'd trade my GH4 for a camera like that. I like the GH4 for video, not so much for stills. Still waiting for that perfect hybrid... (NX1 is probably pretty good for stills, but I prefer the native Nikon mount for stills/wide range of AF lenses). 4K in the 1 J5 wouldn't surprise me, but probably it will only have 30 fps... Which would make it silly anyway.

Found some tests with: > Tokina 11-16 f/2.8 > Canon 24mm f/3.5 L II TS-E > Canon 24-105 f/4 L IS USM > Samyang 35mm T/1.5 > Canon 35mm f/1.4 L > Zeiss 50mm f/2 Makro-planar > Canon 70-200 f/2.8 L IS USM > Samyang 85mm T/1.5 IS seems to work pretty ok on the 24-105mm and 70-200mm, although it does stutter a bit. Would like to see more examples / real world use.

Even though your CPU is 'old', a newer i7 is just a little bit faster. You don't have an SSD yet? Definitely get one, this will make your pc feel a lot faster. You can get a 1TB SSD for something like €400 (I recommend Crucial, very reliable), it will probably fit your OS, programs and project files. Anyway, your disks can't cause stuttering playback. Even a regular he is easily able to playback 4K fluently. Where do you experience stutter? Probably while editing?

Thanks for your input Nahua. I'm surprised you say IS doesn't have much of an effect. What lenses did you try and do you have some footage maybe? I prefer working handheld without rigs, the smaller the setup the better. So if IS doesn't work properly that'd be a dealbreaker..

There have been a lot of topics about the Metabones Speed Booster in it's many forms. I think it would be great to fill a topic with user experiences and lens tests for the GH4 + EF Speed Booster combo. I'm sure there are people here using this combination and I think others will be interested in seeing results / hearing experiences. I'm particularly looking forward to hear experiences with electronic lenses. What works, what doesn't (third party Canon EF), stabilization, etc. Sadly I can't start the topic with a contribution of my own. I have the GH4, but no Speed Booster yet. I definitely want one though. I don't feel like investing a lot of money in m43 glass, there is not enough choice in my opinion and the 2,3x / 2,4x crop factor of the 4K mode 'cripples' a lot of lenses (for example, the loss of wide angle on the 12-35mm f/2.8). For example: EF-S lenses aren't supposed to work, but I've seen examples of people modifying them and using them on EF speed boosters, like this guy using a EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS on the BMPCC. The Canon EF-S 10-18mm f/4-5.6 IS would be my wide angle of choice. It's dirt cheap, pretty good (I've used it on Canon aps-c) and the only Ultra Wide with IS. I'd love to know if someone has tried it on a Speed Booster. Would be great if it works. Also I haven't found any footage of the Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8 VC + GH4 + Speed Booster. Of course the Sigma 18-35mm 1.8 is more spectacular, but lacks IS and is more expensive. If the VC of the Tamron works good with this combination I think it'd be a nice affordable standard lens. Another EF-S lens that could be interesting is the 15-85mm f/3.5-5.6 IS. It's actually the only zoom lens that starts at 15mm and will give a decent amount of wide angle at 4K (15x2,3x0,71 = 24,5mm!). Kinda pricey though for such a slow lens and distortion might be bad without corrections, but sounds nice for a 'all in one'...

I'm not sure what your last post is supposed to be showing, I just see a lot of white... According to Canon the noise levels are on par with the 7D Mark II and the dynamic range is the same as the 5D3. So no improvements at all, except resolution...
-
On a more serious note: Andrew, I'd love to read a write up about the new NX1 firmware and your opinion on it vs the GH4.
-
That video is brilliant!
-
The design is more complex than either the Canon or Nikon, I expect it to be outstanding. I hope they'll make a newer/better version of the 20mm f/1.8 at some point. Or an 18mm f/2...

Your products would be so much more interesting if you'd keep your communication professional.

Those lenses actually look like the new Kowa Prominars for MFT. Kowa is making a 8.5mm f/2.8, designed for MFT. http://www.kowa-prominar.com/special/wide_lens/index.htm

I like the Philips BDM4065UC (haven't used it, but looks pretty ok for the price). €750, VA-panel, 40" - No, it's not a tv http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/reviews/philips_bdm4065uc.htm BenQ BL3201PT also seems a nice 'budget' option. 32", IPS-panel (srgb), around €900 http://orwww2.benq.com/product/monitor/bl3201pt/
