Invest in Canon/or Nikon glass for buying new GH4.
Julian replied to Lasers_pew_pew_pew's topic in Cameras
The whole EF-S mount is just bullshit anyway... I don't see any advantages. Third party manufacturers manage to make aps-c lenses with EF mount just fine (and they fit on fullframe camera's withouth problems), so why can't Canon do this? This was funny back in the days... when the 300D was announced with the EF-S 18-55mm kit lens. Before that time, it was really hard (or expensive) to find a moderate wide angle for your Canon aps-c dslr (D30, D60, 10D, etc) and the 18-55mm EF-S lenses didnt fit on those cameras. There was a solution though: just chop a bit off the back of the EF-S 18-55mm and it would work fine on those camera's: http://www.bobatkins.com/photography/tutorials/efs-10d.html -

Third party lenses are never EF-S. Waiting.. :) -
How did you get that source file? Something looking that horrible won't turn into something usable of course. It doesn't look like a proper 8 bit file, 8 bit isn't that bad. Looks heavily processed, either in post or with a combination of extreme settings in camera.

A6000 is a much more complete package: flip screen, evf, good handling. If this will be your only camera, id definitely go for the Sony. Even if the GM1 might be a bit better regarding image quality. If you are looking for the smallest extra, GM1 it is. I love this little camera, but compared to the A6000 its a pain to work with.

June 3rd! Enlighten us Andrew :)

1 - Just get a good multi coated one. Doest have to be mega expensive but don't get the cheapest ones (Hoya is good price/performance imo). 2 - General advice: don't set the aperture at f/11 or higher, go for f/4 or f/5.6, maximum f/8. Since it is a small sensor (2x crop) the depth of field is huge and actually you are losing sharpness because of diffraction at apertures above f/5.6 You might choose to stop down to f/8 if that makes corner sharpness better, but at wide angles I'm pretty sure f/5.6 will give good/best results for the kit lens. I wouldn't go for full auto settings. Just go for aperture control with, or shutter speed priority in low light. you could use auto iso if the light is unpredictable (in low light), but on a sunny day, f/5.6 at iso 200 (lowest) will give perfectly fine shutter speeds I think. 3 - Depends what you want... you can get m43 adapters for pretty much any exotic lens mount on ebay for $10, there's plenty of old glass you can pick up for next to nothing. Cheap enough to experiment...

If your main goal is stills, go with E-PM2. It has the best sensor of the tree.

Sony RX100, get a mark 1 cheap (Sony just introduced the mark III). Same sensor size as Nikon 1, but better image quality. Or if you want cheap: old Panasonic GF3/GF5, you can get the body for around 150 euros or less.

Looks like it is'nt desqeezed enough?

Focal lengths are always reported 'as is', not as an equivalent. For whatever lens/system. So a 50mm OCT-19 = 50mm on a 5D Mark III, or the equivalent of 100mm on a GH3 (2x crop). Etc.

So it sure is not Canikon or another big company. Probably Metabones or maybe SLR Magic has something up their sleeves. Ok... I'll stop prying, just one question... How much is it?? :p

The EOSHD Panasonic GH4 Shooter's Guide - Now Available
Julian replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
Wow, that's quick! Much appreciated. -
Is the olympus less prone to flare? All UWA's are I think. The 4/3 lens should work with the proper adapter. I don't see why not. Autofocus probably will be slow though. There aren't really any other alternatives. Definitely not in native m43 mount. Maybe there is a old Sigma 10-20mm with active 4/3 mount, but I'm pretty sure the panasonic will be better.

The GH4 goes into the books as the first camera that is actually better and more useful than the sales reps say themselves :) Great write up review Andrew. You cross all the points why I went with this camera: price, size, ease of use, stealth, no rigging necessary, incredible battery, and it has some pretty decent image quality as a bonus ;) Btw... That June 3rd thing you put in there... Exciting! Kinda sounds like a speed booster that makes EF glass work fullframe on the GH4... Fingers crossed! What time does your NDA end? I'm gonna set my alarm :p

Vimeo to automatically mute videos with 'unlicensed' soundtracks
Julian replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
I know Andrew. But that is not an excuse for copyright infringement. Make another edit with another score for your promo work, if you must... If a person is unable to do their business without copyright infringement, there is something terribly wrong with that business imo. Btw, you mentioned I should research fair use, maybe, I'm not an expert. But I think you should do the same.. the Wiki you link to is exactly where I got that quote from, I'm pretty sure the way you use (copyrighted) music on your video's would not classify as fair use. Also see Pablo's reply. And: http://www.copyright.gov/fls/fl102.html Anyway, I don't like copyright laws either, but I respect them when creating my own stuff and uploading it to the public. And even though I agree with a lot of the arguments, I don't think justifies to just do as you like. -
Solution is simple: buy a cheap Canon EOS focal reducer, a Sigma 18-35mm with Nikon mount and a Nikon F to Canon EOS adapter with aperture control. Voila.

So deliver it to your clients with the music of choice for private use, and upload a version with music licensed under Creative Commons for your promotional purposes. Problem solved. -

I don't see how this falls under fair use. Also, I thought fair use is an American regulation. I'm sure we don't have this in The Netherlands (we have citation rights, but using music in public videos sure doesn't comply to that). Not sure how that works in Germany though. -
Rumor says it will run on Android. Forget all the pro stuff. But at least you'll be able to play Angry Birds on it.

Neither. Copyright infringement. You can agree with it or not, but it's the law. Can't blame Vimeo for enforcing it. -
Hope this is true :) Source of the rumor?

I get that the f stop is maintained, as in the lens will gather the same amount of light, but the depth of field will compare to a 36mm f/0.48 on fullframe. Just like a 12-35mm f/2.8 on micro four thirds gives the dof equivalent of a 24-70mm f/5.6 on fullframe, etc. You can easily see that in your video's. Doesn't 'look' like f/4.8 or f/6, does it :)
