I think about 1.5 years ago kowa's used to go for prices around 300. Then they moved up like crazy, seen Kowa B&H's for 800-1000... so yes, maybe prices went back to 'normal'...

This. I don't think a 6 core CPU gives you a lot of extra speed. If you have the budget, it probably won't hurt, but a fast GPU (or 2 of them) is going to be more helpful I think.
-
It only does 120 fps for 3 seconds at 720p and automatically converts it to 12 seconds @ 30 fps! I don't get it... should be fast enough to do it continiously I'd think? Or 1080p... Still only 60/30 fps. No 24/25... If it had a fully functional 1080p120 mode, 24 and 25 fps it'd be a great extra camera... still a lot of 'meh' to me now. Still 40 frames max, but that actually means it has a bigger buffer since the megapixels increased... Would be nice if it had a Small Raw mode at 4,6 megapixel (18,4 : 4) for 160 frames...

I'd get a G6 over a hacked GH2 or GH1. Better codec, 60 fps, focus peaking, cheap! I love using it besides my Canon 5D Mark II with Magic Lantern raw when I don't want to deal with the huge files.

You need a card that is able to write 35Mb/s without speed drops. All cards are specced at 'max' speeds. A 45MB/s card does 45MB/s, but is not guaranteed to do this continuously. This doesn't mean it won't work on current 45MB/s or 95MB/s cards, only way to find out if your card is suitable is to try. If it will change, I'm pretty sure the GH3 will get cheaper. I don't think the GH4 will influence the GH3 price much though, even though they are in the same line-up I think they are pretty different products.

You can scan the text with: http://www.newocr.com/ and then put it in google translate. I tried with the spec sheet: In other words: D-mount (C/CS/M42 with adapters?) 1/3" sensor (??) 2 Megapixels (??) 4mm f/1.2 lens 0.47" viewfinder - 1,44 megapixels (?) USB 2 3.5mm jack input and output SD card 1080p, 720p @ 10 / 15 / 30 fps (wtf, no 25/24?) DNG raw (1080p) - just for stills! iso 160-12800 85.000 yen = ~$820 / €590 Release mid march. /edit: mount adapters are on the order page: http://www.superheadz.com/bellami/order.php There is a sample video too: Looks like crap...

Canon say: "We need to respond to calls for DSLR video quality increase"
Julian replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
Ok, it wouldn't hurt to ask the question, I agree... But a 'we don't answer questions about unsupported firmware' answer wouldn't really be a scoop. There's no point in asking, they won't give a proper answer to a question like that. Even for legal reasons or whatever. Anyway, even with a top level Canon guy saying this, I don't expect anything exciting from them. Yeah, maybe they'll get video on the same level as the Nikon D5300 in the EOS 7D succesor... that wouldn't be bad, but I'm pretty sure Canon will not make something that kills their own C100... -
Usually Panasonic doesn't announce a price before they announce availability.

End of march Panasonic is having a press event. I think they'll have final production models and a price by then. So I guess on sale in april? There is no 'holdup'. They never announced availability.

The screening room here kinda has the same function, but I think the problem is everybody just dumps their video there and hardly anyone cares to comment or even come back after posting a video. I have to admit I was a bit sceptical about this idea. But my first experiences on CreativeCrit so far are great! I saw some interesting work made by a member that probably wouldn't have caught my attention here, and got helpful feedback on a video I posted! This might work really well as long as there is a group of people willing to share their feedback and help each other out. I'll still be around here for my daily dose of camera/anamorphic porn though :)

New Sony 4K camera teased, source describes it as 'F55 in DSLR body'
Julian replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
It's pretty much the best (if sharpest is your definition of best) autofocus lens ever made. http://www.dxomark.com/Lenses/Sony/Sony-FE-Carl-Zeiss-Sonnar-T-STAR-55mm-F18 -
Great review. Love the 'Miss Blackmagic vs Miss GH2' part :)

Check the frontpage ;) http://www.eoshd.com/content/12204/4k-is-here-blackmagic-production-camera-review "I found myself at an aeropark built in 1930′s Berlin" Looks pretty cool.

What distance are you trying to focus? You probably need diopters for close focus. How about sharpness at long distances?

Every lens andy owns is razor massively sharper than L - see his post history ;) Anyway, the kit lens is pretty good indeed, if you can live with f/3.5-5.6...

Ever noticed this subforum: http://www.eoshd.com/comments/forum/6-screening-room/ ? ;) That's what makes me laugh every time the discussion about content vs gear turns up... Content is king. Yes, I agree. But hey, we are on the internet here. And this forum - like most others - is mostly a bunch of guys who like to talk about technical nerdy stuff, rant about the next CaNikon and hack their camera. The Screending Room (in other words: the content room) hardly gets any discussion or comments at all.
-
I saw it in at least one persons list already ;) I haven't completely watched it yet, but saw some of the low light scenes. There's always this talk about the famous f/0.7 lens used for Barry Lyndon. Yeah, of course that's special, but come on, it was shot at asa 100 pushed to 200! (at least, that's what I can find about it) So that would be the same as shooting nowadays digital at iso 800 f/1.4... whoohoo! That's peanuts for a $500 dslr and a cheap manual focus lens. Of course, this doesn't make the film bad and it is more of a testimony to what possibilities we have within reach now. But I kinda fail to be impressed with the technical side of it. Also they really used a shitload of candles and special ones that burn a lot faster and brighter than the usual ones. /rant ;)

Nikon D5300 Review and why DSLRs are dead for video
Julian replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
There's a difference, but it still looks crap imo...
