Personally I think if you can't pick up any Canon or Nikon DSLR above their very basic entry models and take decent pictures the issue isn't with the camera. Once 18 megapixels was hit I would have thought most people would be satisfied with the megapixel count in APS-C world.
I agree that it's stupid for photographers to complain about the video features of a camera. But you're kinda behaving exactly the same right here. If you can't take decent movies with the current camera's, the issue isn't with the camera...
In fact, Canon is lagging behind in picture quality. It's not just about megapixels. How about dynamic range, noise, color? All as relevant for photography as it is for video. Everybody would benefit from a better sensor...
ironically canon is serving neither niche group, neither us nor them, by making the products theyre making! go figure!
We are the niche group. The photographers aren't...

Probably the D7100 sensor.

Would love this for the cheap lens adaptability. But now with magic lantern, it's hard to go back... The cameras look great though. A little bit disappointed with the EVF. True, the Olympus E-M1 evf is very nice, but rumours about super high res evf's have been around for a long time.
The crucial point, to make photographers switch from canikon, will be auto focus performance though. And I don't think it's likely they will preform better than a 5DIII/D800. For high-end travel/street/landscape this looks like the bomb. Fuji must be unhappy about this.
Oh, and pancake lenses please... The list below will probably be announced with the cameras, but no pancakes yet. Some super flat affordable primes would be awesome. Like the Canon 40mm 2.8, which is great for the money.
- Zeiss FE 24-70mm f/4.0 OSS
- Sony G 28-70mm f/3.5-5.6 OSS
- Zeiss FE 35mm f/2.8
- Zeiss FE 55mm f/1.8
- Zeiss FE 70-200mm f/4.0 OSS (coming early 2014)

Have been hunting for this baby but never saw one since I read this topic... Except for one that popped up on eBay and disappeared within a day (listing removed).

So yeah not a full battery of tests or info yet but for those not sure, just be patient. Don't sling mud at something without having all the facts.
I agree, but a bit more samples/info would be nice. This is a new version, the flares have changed, right? I'm curious to see that, and probably not the only one. I've heard it works on 50mm fullframe. It would be nice to actually see that!
SLR Magic made a fine sample video before. I think it would help if they had done the same for this new 'evaluation program'.
Anyway, best of luck to SLR Magic and the testers. I'm looking forward to the results.

Spec sheet clearly says 1920x1080 60i, not 60p.
-
Sounds good. Shame the early adapter kit is m43 only. I want to use it on fullframe, already have diopters and don't need the 35mm.
Is there any news on the flare? Or will the kit have the same characteristics as what we've seen so far?

The K-3 is official now. And the specs page is updated... No raw video. Sad, but expected.

It's a 3.5" 800x480 monitor. What camera are you planning to use it on? To me it doesn't seem like much of a step up from the standard 3" 640x480 displays in most camera's.
-
True... but they don't state the jpg quality levels under the still resolutions. Later, under shooting speed, they refer to the 3 star quality level for jpg.
Anyway, It would be kinda crazy if it does shoot raw video and Pentax doesn't make any mention of this on the main page in the PR texts... Even one of the headlines is 'Pro H264 video'.... If it shoots raw, that would be there.
-
Actually, looking at it again, I think the mentioned quality levels are related to the still shooting options. They are just placed a bit weird in the table...
-
The Pentax K-3 was featured on the Ricoh website. It's taken offline, but you can still find the page in Googles cache.
The spec sheet shows something very interesting:
The strange thing is that on the main page that outlines the headlines of the camera, there is no mention whatsoever on raw video:
- Professional H.264 video
Enhance your video recording experience with full HD movie capture in the H.264 format (60p/50p/30p/24p), also including the ability to switch from still image to video recording with the flip of a dedicated switch. Equipped with a headphone terminal and stereo microphone terminal for external microphone connection. The user can also adjust the audio recording level manually and monitor sound levels during recording.
So, I'd say there is a big chance that they made an error in the specifications list...
On the other hand. This would be a great move for Pentax to gain some market share. I know, raw shooting probably isn't a big market, but Pentax really doesn't sell a lot of camera's...
Also interesting is the 'selectable AA-filter'
- Selectable Anti-Aliasing Filter
Enjoy the world’s first selectable anti-aliasing filter, giving the user the ability to easily toggle anti-aliasing functionality on or off, for supreme resolution and zero limitations. This breakthrough technology eliminates the need to commit to either supreme resolution or superior moiré control, by providing both options in a single camera body. Newly developed for the K-3, the anti-aliasing simulator* applies microscopic vibrations to the image sensor unit at the subpixel level during image exposure, generating the same level of moiré-reduction effect as an optical anti-aliasing filter. * This function is most effective with a shutter speed of 1/1000 second or slower. This function is not available during HDR shooting.
We'll probably know the answer soon. Official announcement is expected tomorrow I think.
Rumoured price is $1300 for the body.
Also, it has a stabilized sensor. According to Imaging Resource, that works pretty well for video on the previous K-5:
Pentax K5 Video: Image StabilizationThe Pentax K-5's body-based image stabilization can be used when recording movies. Not only does this make any lens you're recording with into an IS model, but we found that the image stabilization worked exceptionally well when recording videos. We've recorded videos with other SLRs using IS lenses, but the level of stabilization available in Pentax's flagship K5 (and its predecessor) seemed better than we're average. Because the Pentax K-5's Shake Reduction system provides such a high degree of stabilization, there's a bit of a "floating" feeling when recording videos with IS enabled: As you move and pan the camera, the video image tends to lag a little behind your motions, "catching up" when you come to a rest. A related IS effect is that the subject can drift up or down or from side to side slightly during recording. This can be slightly disconcerting, but the upside is that your videos will be much more stable than otherwise, even holding the camera at arm's length, or when shooting with a long telephoto lens.
Note, however, that while image stabilization is available for movie capture, one of the unique aspects of Pentax's Shake Reduction design available in still image shooting -- automatic horizon leveling -- doesn't carry over to Movie mode. You can, however, use the composition adjustment function in Movie mode, allowing you to fine-tune image framing in both horizontal and vertical axes, as well as rotationally, but should you choose to do so this will disable image stabilization -- which makes sense, given you'd be unlikely to use composition adjustment unless you were shooting on a tripod.

Yes. I'd buy one for €600/700... About a year ago I stopped bidding at $600 because I thought it was too much
Most I've seen since were much more expensive.. But I see there have been some done deals around the €700 mark on eBay, so I'll start watching again :)
-
Cheap? $1K - $2K... :(
-
Yes Rafael.
Here you can find a list of the register distance of all mounts:
http://www.graphics.cornell.edu/~westin/misc/mounts-by-register.html
Everything that has a longer register distance than the mount of your choice can be used with a basic adapter.
-
I also vote for the Speed Booster and the BMCC MFT. If the BMCC Canon EF is the only option, then I think the cheapest/easiest option for ultra wide would be the Sigma 8-16mm. It's the widest non-fisheye available.
Used in this video for example:

I think everybody (except for those with some form of color vision deficiency) can score perfect on this test, on shitty monitors too. It's just a few different shades. Put them roughly in the right order, look carefully and you'll see something is wrong if you look long enough. A shitty monitor is not gonna change that. Maybe it will if it shows only 16 colors.
-
Wow, this is pretty lame...
And misleading. The C300 doesn't have Dual Fast Pixel AF :P
-
The Schneider lens is focused by turning the knurled thumb screw on the front of the lens this allows precise accurate focusing.
Read: you have to focus by turning some little thumb screws which will make using this a pain in the ass.
Read: http://www.eoshd.com/comments/topic/1352-schneider-kreuznach-anamorphic-projector-lens/
BTW, Andy Lee is the seller of the lens you are linking.
-
You don't want to know the price from a decade ago, or even 3 years ago, it will make you weep :)
It does. Those (rare) 'I've found an isco in a barn sale' and 'my friend gave me this for pennies' posts make me go nuts. The chance of winning the lottery is probably bigger :(
-
Not possible.
http://www.graphics.cornell.edu/~westin/misc/mounts-by-register.html
Praktica Bayonet has a 44.4mm register distance. Nikon F is 46.5mm. So you'd need an adapter that has a length of minus 2,1mm.
Maybe someone makes an adapter with a glass element that corrects this, but that would result in loss of image quality.
-
This won't go in the 'GH4' since it's a low megapixel sensor. Photographers aren't gonna be happy with 2K. Even the 4K sensor is 'only' 12 megapixels max.
Still, this stuff looks nice. Curious what it will end up in!
-
Ehh, did any of you look at the samples provided by levisdavis? The whole point is the moire in full sensor mode... and how a VAF can improve it.
Anyway, I downloaded 2 dng's and make a quick comparison. Without VAF (sharpness 0) and with VAF (sharpness 25):
Thanks for sharing, looking pretty good. I switched to a 5D II and I'm waiting for my VAF5D2b...

Also agree that there is more room for improvement in video, but in the last 4 years, raw image quality on Canon dslr's (aps-c) hasn't improved at all. Photographers do have valid reasons to complain, just like we do.
