1. You can use CrystalDiskMark for example. http://crystalmark.info/software/CrystalDiskMark/index-e.html   These results are from a ssd.. you won't get that with a CF card ;)   Just run the Sequential test (read and write). For my Sandisk 90MB/s CF I get 96MB/s read and 66MB/s write.   Make sure you use a USB 3 reader. There is no point in doing it on a USB 2 reader...
2.   ML isn't taking donations, but a developer requested a 50D. I bought a 50D + Battery Grip + batteries yesterday for a good price and I shipped it today. I'm hoping we can split the costs... If you want to donate to me, send me a PM and I'll give you the details.
3. I love your set-up.     So cool! :D   Would love to see the results.
4. The 18-35mm is for aps-c so will only work with M43 speed booster, not on NEX speed booster. Image circle isn't big enough. And since the EOS-M43 speed booster isn't out... It will take a while before we'll see any of that. I would love to try it :)
5. @Janek: check the link. You can download 78 samples at 1.8, plenty at 18mm. I think it's great. @Ernesto: working for a photography magazine helps ;) After 5 years working in the photography business I picked filming as a new hobby. That's why I'm here...
6. I had the pleasure of testing the new Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 DC HSM Art (on a Canon 100D...). Focussed on photography, but the results are amazing. Even at f/1.8 it is really sharp, I'm sure it will even beat many primes. It's pretty crazy actually!         Here you can find 78 sample pictures for download in full resolution. In the first slideshow everything is at f/1.8! http://www.digifotopro.nl/content/exclusief-%E2%80%93-testfotos-sigma-18-35mm-f-18-dc-hsm-art       I did a very small video test, wanted to see if it's parfocal. I think it is!   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-agLVS4MP_c   This will be killer on Blackmagic EF-mount camera's (if it will work?), Canon aps-c with raw... MFT with speed booster, if a electronic EOS version ever arrives...   Pricing of the 18-35mm is TBA...
7. http://vimeo.com/67351221 My results for today. The video is graded in ACR. I did reduce some moire on the water :) Download the original. Shot at 1592x864, upsized to 1080p. Will upload dng's tomorrow.
8. http://vimeo.com/67350037   Panning mode working on the 50D :)
9.   :)
10. Rokinon 85mm 1.4 works fine on fullframe! The 24-70 2.8 with IS sounds good to me. Get some cheap manual primes and adapters on eBay.
11. The data is corrupt for now. Lets wait till it actually works, but I have good hope. Remember that a lot of work has been done for other camera's, like the 5D2, most of it I think applies to the 50D as well.
12. My quick observations using GregoryOfManhattan's Alpha build. - Better speed, stable 1592x796 recording (see test above) - Playback works (B&W, slow speed) - Buffer improved to 5 stars from 4 stars on my camera - Way more available resolutions, select width and choose aspect ratio - 'Digital dolly' mode works! - Recording with live view button, I don't have to do any kind of work around - Cropped mode works - display still turns pink but DNG files are fine! - 4GB+ recording works but the raw files aren't converted properly yet - not usable yet, work in progress - recording rectable / frame counter is flickering all the time (same as previous build) - Camera crashes when trying to play back raw files made in cropped mode
13. Spanned over several files. I format in camera. The counter on the screen just adds up the MB's, on the card it is split in 4GB chunks.
14. New resolution test with GregoryOfManhattan's Alpha build using hacked mode. (Check ML 50D topic, alpha testers wanted, send him a message) Sandisk 32GB 90MB/s CF 3:2 @ 1592x1062 ~ 135 frames 5:3 @ 1952x955 ~ 270 frames 16:9 @ 1592x 895 ~ 480 frames 1.85:1 @ 1592x860 ~ 850 frames 2:1 @ 1592x796 - No skipping! It can record over 4GB and span! I shot 1592x796 continously, stopped recording manually at 10GB. The buffer is completely fine. But right now the files don't convert properly so it's not usable yet! Wanted to try anamorphic resolutions like 1440x1062 and 1320x990 but ran out of batteries... Overall definitely an improvement over the previous build, that gave me these results: 1592×1062 – frame skipping after about 50 frames 1592×840 – frame skipping after about 480 frames 1592×720 – no frame skipping
15.   I haven't done anything except using and testing the builds of others, who don't have a fast CF card to try it out yet.   /Edit: forget what I wrote here.. premature conclusions, have to check how/if the footage actually works.
16.   Not in the current 50D built yet, but on the other camera's that's been fixed, so that should be no problem.
17. Cool, that's good news!   I fixed the frame skipping on my anamorphic video. The image sequences were imported as 25 fps and my project was 24 fps. Simple as that. Reuploaded the correct file:   http://vimeo.com/67023056   That noise test I posted earlier has gone completely viral since it was featured on EOSHD... It's on DPreview.com, Engadget, Cnet Australia, Petapixel and a lot more websites :D   Bummer the video isn't completely correct, as I found out the H2 setting doesn't actually do anything, it is H1.. I will fix that tomorrow in the video and reupload a file with more footage shot at H1 (6400). Will try to do some underexposed shots and push them to 12800, 25600, etc ;) Curious how far I can go...
18. This was just a preview. I invited James, Richard and Hammond over for a Top Gear RAW Camera Challenge. They are just finishing their crash course into raw video and will start shooting the next 8 hours, there's also a La Ferrari, Lambo Venero and a caravan involved. I'll be up all night to process the results!
19. If 1700 is your complete budget, I'd suggest the Panasonic G6. Cheap body, very good quality and 1080p60. Don't think there is anything in this price range that can beat it.   This will leave you plenty of money for lenses, a microphone, tripod/monopod/rig.   Buy a standard zoom with stabilisation for weddings etc. Some cheap adapters and cheap old manual glass (Minolta MD, Canon FD, Nikon F) for creative shots.   http://www.eoshd.com/comments/topic/2660-panasonic-g6-vs-gh2-video-test/
20. Tell us more. What do you want to shoot, what are your needs? Do you already have lenses? Is 1700 your budget for everything or just a body?
21. Tiny bit of bad news. That test I posted earlier, at ISO H2, 12.800 (and has gone completely viral... :D) is probably H1 (6400). It seems that putting the 50D in H2 doesn't affect live view or raw video. Only still pics.   But still, not bad I think. Here's another shot:     1592x840, ISO 6400, Sigma 30mm f/1.4. Here is a still frame. DNG converted with some luma and color noise reduction. Upsized to 1920 width in Photoshop and added some unsharp mask.
22. You're welcome Brellivids! I hope other people get their 50D's soon, then we will see more tests :)   The weird pixels you see at 1:08 is moire, it's on the little hairs of the plants...
