Thanks for the test Andrew, was looking forward to seeing some raw anamorphic footage and it's sure looking good! :)
A note on the rescaling, you mention you shoot 1720x1280 (almost 4:3). Shouldn't your scale the width with 150% to 2580 px?
If I scale the dng files to 2580x1280 they look perfect. The aspect ratio in the video looks a bit off.

Read the comments. This probably isn't as big as it looks like. They use some open source code, depending on the licence, it means they have to make it available again under the same licence.
Probably it's only the open source part of the code (or the modified part of it) that Samsung released. They can still keep the camera closed by not releasing their own code that isn't based on open source.
I hope I'm wrong though :)

If you have the time, and the gear, why not 4K? There are going to be more and more 4K tv's and computer monitors in the next years. At least you're future proof that way.

Two more of these babies are looking for a new owner!

The problem with card speeds is that it is most likely the 'maximum' performance, and not a sustained speed. You won't really know before you try it.

Yes, you can.Sorry yes... Can you take quality photos with GH3 and blow them up to poster size to print and frame with high IQ?
There are plenty reviews on the GH3. Most of them focused on photography. -
Anyone got experience with the cheaper monitors for anamorphic shooting? I'd love to have something that can desqueeze 2x and crop to 2.66:1 for example.

Funny, 50D tests going on. That camera didn't even have a film mode :) It does have live view though, and apparently a relatively big buffer and fast output (UDMA 6, 133Mbps).

Would be awesome if the ancient 50D turns out to film in raw at higher resolutions than the 600D etc.

Very nice. That second video is crazy... Love it! haha :D

Keep us op to date tehellet. Which adapter did you get exactly?

I'd be surprised if the 'onion rings' are caused by the Speed Booster. Haven't seen that before. Might be characteristic of the used lens.
-
If 960x720 would work, that would be perfect for 2x anamorphic with 2,66:1 aspect ratio.
Can you try a shot at 960x480p with a 2x anamorphic? That would give a pretty extreme 4:1 aspect ratio at 1920x480, but probably look pretty good!

I think HDMI only works in playback. Julian?
Can't test hdmi. Don't even have a mini hdmi cable... :( -
Thats not an achromat right?

Looking good so far. Hope there will be a dumb nikon version at launch. Not planning to buy Leica R or Contax glass. Would consider getting a old Nikkor 35mm 1.4 and 50mm 1.2 though. That would be nice on the pocket with the speed booster :)

I've posted some images here:
http://www.eoshd.com/comments/gallery/album/56-wide-angle-adapter/
All were shot from the same position using a Canon 550D + Helios-44m + Sun anamorphic adaptor.
Thanks! The results from the Zomei don't look bad at all, but the picture isn't any wider... that doesn't seem to make sense :P

Can you actually show some results Andy?

Nice 5D3 raw video:

Absolutely love it! Very good use of the BMCC. Many videos with it are so over graded or super saturated just because it is possible, I love the look of this.
-
Thanks Gábor. The fact that the Fotga works fine on your 28mm but is crap on your anamorphic/longer lenses is probably bad news. Guess the combination of all those optics just don't work well... Too bad.
-
Next on my list to try is anamorphic lens & 1920x1280 (3:2), that is going to be my preferred mode. From 3:2 with the Iscorama you will get roughly 2.35:1 :)
Can you please try 4:3 as well, for 2x users?
I'd be interested in the max resolution, maybe 1706x1280p but also 1440x1080p for example, to bring the data rate down a bit.
Even 1296x1080p for 2.40:1 with 2x anamorphic could be interesting.
-
I wonder: does it work?
Most anamorphic lenses don't let you get very wide. What are the results if you put a wide angle converter in front of the anamorphic? I don't think they change the focus, or do they?
Probably not a good idea on big anamorphic lenses, but what about the smaller ones? My Iscomorphot 8/2x is pretty small, would be nice to put a 0.7x wide angle converter on it for example.
Or my tiny Petit Cinvesion 1.5x.. It vignettes with taking lenses below 40mm on the GH2. Would like to be able to go a bit wider. Not looking for extreme wide, would be happy with 28mm (0.7x 40mm).
I don't have any wide angle converters, otherwise I would give it a try.. Did someone do this before or does someone have the gear to try? Would be appreciated!

Soon I'll be able to trade my Kowa for a Iscorama... ;)
