The GH2 is from 2010, photography-wise (noise, dynamic range) it's not on par with the best dslrs. If you look into the same price category though the difference is not that big. Recently the new Olympus OM-D showed big improvements in still image quality, the dynamic range is on par with high end aps-c-cameras and for noise it's almost the same. If you want the shallowest DOF you need full frame. You're never going to beat full frame combined with a 35mm or 24mm 1.4. You can get a voigtlander 17,5mm 0,95, that gives the equivalent of 35mm 1.8. For the 24mm there is no substitute. The sensor size isn't much smaller than S35 used for cinema though. So you can get the cinema look without any problems. The expensive glass isn't Plastic and toy like at all. Performance is outstanding, corner to corner. Often better than full frame. The Olympus 75mm 1.8 I would never buy, but read some tests, it sets benchmarks. For me a big plus of MFT is the ability to adapt almost any lens. Just buy some cheap old manual lenses. You won't mis autofocus when filming and optics from decades ago are still great. Compared to full frame MFT is cheap. The GH2 already beats the 5D II and III in resolution for video. There are plenty of test videos where you can compare. To me the difference is pretty amazing. And were talking $700 GH2 against $3500 5D. Wait for the GH3... Read the article on the front page. Personally, I'd say fullframe is still the best for photography (I like small DOF), for video or as a hybrid cam, MFT is great. Right now I have a 5D mark I (no video). I'm going to change it for mirror less, probably the GH3. Mainly cause my growing interest in video. If photography is your main thing, MFT is not going to beat the 5D 3 and D800 (and probably A99) on that aspect. Probably the GH3 will beat all of those hands down in video though.

Why I am shooting raw on the Blackmagic Cinema Camera
Julian replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
Why wouldn't it be 2880 x 1080 for ProRes? -
The LX7 records at 120/100 fps but the files are saved at 30/25 fps by default. I have a LX7 around, will do a test later this week.

I've also been thinking about this. But I think it's way too difficult... modern sensors in compactcameras are 4K capable. Yet no compact offers 4K video. I think it mostly has to do with the processing power. I don't think a raspberry pi would be able to get 4k video from the sensor and encode it into some usable format. I suppose the most difficult part would probably be making the firmware and making everything work together. Look at this 12 MP 1/1.7-inch Sony sensor for example: http://www.sony.net/Products/SC-HP/cx_news/vol69/pdf/imx144cqj.pdf It's been used in the newest compactcameras, like the Samsung EX2F, probably the Nikon P7700 and maybe more. The sensor specs: 35fps at full resolution. It also has a 4K video mode (4096H x 2160V) at 60fps. Sounds lovely.. But cameras that use this sensor aren't capable of such things.

Is raw on the Blackmagic Cinema Camera worth it? Dispelling the myths
Julian replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
I'd love to shoot raw. As a still shooter I'm used to the raw format and wouldn't want to do without it. But it will take some years before raw becomes 'doable' for enthusiasts like me. Spending $3000 on a camera is not the end on then world. The investment in a extremely powerfull computer and huge storage arrays I can't justify for myself. If you make a living out of it or are very passionate and ambitious about what you do, then this is not such a barrier. It will just take some time. I think the advancements in computing power and storage size go faster than camera technology. In a few years things will look different and raw will become more accessible. Definitely not a 'no' to raw, but even though the camera is affordable now, the complete picture is still out of reach for me and I think the same goes for most enthusiast dslr shooters. -
What is that square box on the right behind the cage?

Looks heavy, I don't envy you on that aspect. Nice setup though. What zoom lens are you using? I guess it is'nt very wide. I have a similar huge anamorphic lying around and it doesn't take much wideangle.

Read this: http://www.eoshd.com...r-video-quality If you still want to go for Canon, the 650D doesn't add much extra imo. Unless you want to use autofocus. But if you want to get serious with video you probably want to use manual focus anyway.
Actually Sony is too late with the VG900. Sure it is potentially the best video using a dSLR sensor for under £2.5k and probably arrive in stores early next year. Why? It is because RAW capable video camera already can be had for under £2.5k even though the sensor is small such as the BMC by next year we may well see S35 version for around £3k-£4k be it from BMD or another manufacturer. Canon was'nt smart with their $15k FF EOS cinema standard dSLR and as a great believer of "you pay for what you get" I doubt the VG900 will come anywhere close in video quality. The VG900 will only be a modest improvement over the 5DIII and as a dedicated camcorder for the price even with FF sensor it will have a hard time challenging BMC and Digital Bolex and may prove a disaster for Sony.
The VG900 sounds more like a high end consumercam. Like the earlier VG's. I myself for example am interested in such a camera. I'm not interested in RAW (yet), because that means buying a new computer, a huge amount of hard disks to store everything and ssd's etc. I think the market for video enthusiasts is pretty big. Probably bigger than the professional market that really wants RAW.

Depends on the lens I guess. But you should be able to calculate it with the crop factor. For example, my 1,75x anamorphic works with 40mm on my GF3. This has a 2x crop factor, the BMC has 2.3, so on the BMC it should work (and give the same fov) with a 35mm.

It's aps-c. I guess it's exactly the same as the X-Pro1 but without the hybrid viewfinder, EVF only.

Ah I see the point. It's 2/3 fstop indeed. Fuji X to M43 is impossible, because the flange distance from the Fuji X mount is shorter than M43. Samsung NX is 25.50 mm vs 19.25 mm for M43. So it in theory it should be possible with an adapter. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flange_focal_distance Also confirmed here: http://www.similaar.com/foto/lensmount/lensmount.html Anyway, i can't find such an adapter either, except for a rumor from 2010.. http://www.43rumors.com/ft3-novoflex-ready-to-launch-a-new-nx-to-mft-adapter/

There is a Samyang (same manufacturer) 7,5mm with mft mount! http://www.photozone.de/olympus--four-thirds-lens-tests/714-samyang7535

Looks like a lovely setup. You say it gives a 2.13:1 ratio, but wouldn't 1.33x on 16:9 give 2.36:1? Just wondering... not ready to invest in another anamorphic yet..

Thanks! I'm pretty pleased with the quality as well. Although i'd love to use it on another camera than the GF3, the video resolution of the GF3 isn't very good.

I bought a Minolta MC Rokkor 58mm f/1.4 on eBay and gave it a spin with my ISCO Projection Anamorphic. I wanted to see how it handles big apertures. These are still images (Panasonic GF3). Most of them at f/2.8. I put in one shot at f/1.4. The photo's look really sharp to me. I also got footage, i'll be putting it together and posting it later. Click for big! Agreed.. but the sharpened 1D X footage also looks over sharpened. Should be possible to sharpen it a bit less I suppose? Anyway, I don't see the point in the 1D X as video cam either.

Yeah, my bad.. Maybe the hack can make things better ;-) Can you change the topic title Andrew? I can't edit it.
3rd test: Even more so. 1DX is bext full frame DSLR.
I think the 1DX footage is too much sharpened. There are a lot of sharpening artefacts. Look at the wooden poles around 18 sec. There is a distinct white line around them and even the background (which is out of focus) looks oversharpened. In this case I prefer the 5D3 with less artefacts.. but I guess it's a question of post production.

Although the sensor might be the weak part.. seems close to the NEX-VG20.

Sony just announced the NEX-EA50. It comes at a complete surprise, haven't seen any rumours about this camera before. Which is surprising since everything Sony makes seems to be known months in advance. 16 megapixel APS-C (shoots raw pictures too) E-Mount New 18-200mm Power Zoom 1920x1080 in 50p/25p/50i or 60p/30p/24p/60i AVCHD 4:2:0 at up to 28Mbps Two-channel XLR audio ECM-XM1 Shotgun microphone is included Linear PCM audio; time code; user bit; and built-in GPS Sony’s HXR-FMU128 (128GB) flash memory unit can dock directly to the camcorder for simultaneous backup No built in ND filters And the best: Price 2740 GBP Especially considering it comes included with a mic, monitor/viewfinder (can't find info on the resolution though) and a formfactor with shoulder mount etc so you don't have to spend much on a rig.. Available from October. I'm pretty new in the video world, but this looks seriously awesome to me. What do you think?
