It's a 36,3 megapixel sensor. It is never going to be perfect in 1080p.
 
Comparing it to a XT-1 is silly though. Horses for courses. It's like saying the Arri Alexa is stupid because of the form factor, the GH4 is much more convenient to use...

S-LOG 2 is ISO 3200 only, you can't shoot at a lower ISO. Good look with those NDs. I don't understand how Sony claim the dynamic range is optimal at ISO 3200 on the A7S which is why S-LOG 2 is 3200 and DXOMark claim it is optimal at the lowest ISO in all of their tests on all the cameras on the market either. Perhaps someone could explain?
 
Apparently the cameras which have shipped in the US are not NTSC / PAL switchable. Anyone got theirs yet?
 
But I have a feeling rolling shutter will be the main cause of wonkiness.

You get RAW controls for exposure, tint, and color temp. LUTs can be loaded with Lumetri.
 
I'm getting pink highlights when I pull the exposure down on BMPCC and ML RAW footage, but this is still pretty great.

The FZ1000 is also coming with a 1" sensor and 4K video.  It looks like Panasonic will be pushing 4k across the whole line this year.

The Panasonic LX8 will be the successor of the LX7. Expected half of july (the LX camera's have had a tight 2 year renewal schedule). It will be a contender for the RX100 III and probably have a bigger sensor than the 1/1.7-inch chip in the LX7. Not sure which size.
 
New rumor: 4K video and $899 price tag.
 
I'd say - Why not? smartphones are able to shoot 4K... so a high end compact shouldn't have trouble with it. Sony's 1 inch sensor also does 4K in the AX100.

I know what is going on here... Had it on mine.
 
The mount is slightly loose to the Nikon Speed Booster so as you twist the lens barrel to zoom, it moves in the mount very fractionally and the aperture lever gets shifted around with it.
 
Try tightening it by levering out the mounting things* on the adapter.

If Canon's recent commintment to product development is any indication the 7D mark II will have
-20Mpix sensor same as the 70D
-1 stop better noise control
-mic socket
-similiar 720p upscaled to 1080p as before but now with 60 frames as well. ( dont think about shooting video of water or brick walls) those will be fixed in 7d Mark III in the year 2019
-and the super duper feature will be WIFI AND GPS
-multiple face detection and direct facebook upload. :o SOOO COOOL
 
Canon will allso realease a new slogan that says. Canon you can .. if you wait long enough.

The 5D3 might be king of stills if you compare it to the gh4, but for the price difference you can buy fullframe cameras that give better quality than the 5Dmkiii.

I feel bad for people who just can't enjoy movies like the Dark Knight.

SpeedBooster with OIS and all the bells and whistles is coming, I'm telling 'ya! This will be huge. It that case I might even sell some of my Samyang/Rokinon glass collection and get a Tamron 24-70. I bought the Samyangs only for the reason that I was not able to control Canon glass.

Little test video I shot with it. Just a few quick shots, so not great (had a hard time focusing on the 1200D - the dof is big so everything looks in focus on the screen, but it's hard to see where the critical focus really is)

jonpais thank you so much for the feedback and critique, I learned a ton from this shoot being a one man band. There's a million things I will do differently on the next one.
 
inazuma the actors were actually friends of mine who have never acted before, just doing favors for me. I actually did shoot just about the entire film on the glidecam, good eye!! I'm in the process of a regrade right now and will upload for review. Thank you very much for your input!

This is the last version of the 54 produced, a rather uncommon 1.33x stretch, with custom mount including push-button alignment system and 15mm rail attachment. Pictured carbon-fibre rods not included.

There's a tiny mark on the huge front element, a couple of mm and nothing noticeable. Like most 54s the focus is relatively stiff, it seems to be their hallmark.
 

 

 

Also depends on the exposure. James Miller has had some nice shadows out of it
 

Shame about the mis alignment.  That flare colour is lovely.
 
 I've always wanted this lens just as a display piece - that front optic is stunning.  I'd probably under light it in a glass dome and have it as a centre piece in my bachelor pad.  

Solution is simple: buy a cheap Canon EOS focal reducer, a Sigma 18-35mm with Nikon mount and a Nikon F to Canon EOS adapter with aperture control. Voila.

Yes I agree, but dang, those little things are expensive!  You can buy a used L lens for the same price. I want one, but not for $400 plus dollars.

Vimeo should risk getting into lawsuit wars with Universal, Warner and EMI so that the hipsters can use whatever songs they choose for their montage videos of flowers, sunsets, and city life? If you are shooting stuff for non commercial reasons, then you don't need to rip off copyrighted material w/o permission. You can go to freemusicarchive.org and find music that fits your scene. And "fair use" in this instance is bullshit since tons of Vimeo work results in monetary gain indirectly (you don't think Phillip Bloom has gotten clients via Vimeo?). How do you distinguish someone making test videos for fun/personal reasons, and someone uploading work with hopes of gaining clients (basically using Vimeo as a marketing tool).

It always perplexed me that Vimeo was so lax on people illegally using music. I obviously don't like the new policy because it limits my options, but if you can't see the justification behind this policy... ??? wtf?
