Quick test of a flat Camera Raw treatment and 4K upscale. Holds up pretty well, contrasts back down and resaturates well. This is only 2k due to the monitor.

I fixed the frame skipping on my anamorphic video. The image sequences were imported as 25 fps and my project was 24 fps. Simple as that. Reuploaded the correct file:

That noise test I posted earlier has gone completely viral since it was featured on EOSHD... It's on DPreview.com, Engadget, Cnet Australia, Petapixel and a lot more websites :D
 
Bummer the video isn't completely correct, as I found out the H2 setting doesn't actually do anything, it is H1.. I will fix that tomorrow in the video and reupload a file with more footage shot at H1 (6400). Will try to do some underexposed shots and push them to 12800, 25600, etc ;) Curious how far I can go...

Monitoring - Just tested it with my Lillieput monitor. It works.

Please download and check if the camera skips frames, or if I did something wrong in post. Big chance it's the last option :)
If the camera skips frames, that will be fixed. It didn't drop any frame during recording at 1280x960p.

I liked the skipped frames. With the music it seemed like a stylistic choice, almost like Gondry's Star Guitar music video.
I did note the bus was a bit 'wobbly'. Any chance the rolling shutter could be improved with future builds?

It is exactly like you say. Every frame of the video is a photograph. With the Canon hack you get 24 DNG's (an universal raw standard) per second. The resolution is lower than photographs though, but still you have much more sharpness and dynamic range.
 
It existed before, but until recently a camera that would film in raw would cost you like $20K to $100K.
 
Last year, Blackmagic released the BMCC, it films in raw for $3K. That was a big break though.
Beginning this year, Blackmagic announced the Pocket Cinema Camera, raw for $1000 (smaller sensor though), another break trough.
 
Now recently Magic Lantern discovered how make almost every Canon dslr with live view film in raw! The 5D3 works best, bit pricey.. but awesome if you have one already :)
 
The cheaper models like the 550D/600D can do it in low resolution only because of the slower SD card controller.
The 5 year old Canon 50D which cost like $300 on eBay can do it in decent resolutions... which is pretty amazing.

Colour certainly a huge leap from the others on the 5D Mark III at this ISO.
 
White balance and tint vary wildly between the three.

Moire can be pretty bad on the 50D:

It's quite a worst case scenario though. This is the worst shot of all, many shots with lines/details aren't affected or just barely.

@MKjaer: I know... I never liked the 50D because of the poor iso performance/banding. I am really surprised it is this good. There is banding at H2, definitely not perfect. But it's so much better than I would expect.

This is the fasted card I have Andrew. But I think the camera is the limiting factor. 1592 is the maximum width of the live view in 1x mode. You can go to 1900-something in 5x zoom. I think my card is faster than 50MB/s as well but probably like the 5D2 the 50D has a limitation in the CF controller. Would make sense since it's an old beast. Probably I can test faster cards soon!
 
Rendering a video with the extreme iso's, will let you know when it's up, would be nice if you could add it to the article!

1280x960 @ 24 fps - Nikkor 50mm f/1.8 + Kowa B&H 2x anamorphic - Stretched to 2560x960 in Premiere
And a sharpened 1920x720 version of that last one.

Personally, I don't really care about the top-end-gear-to-price arguments. I'm VERY low-end but my 4 year old DSLR camera shoots raw 14bit video! That's all I need to say :)
