  1. YESSS! Super post! Thank you very much Mr. Cineman1. Just bought a 54 with the orignial adapter but lens support is unfortunately needed. it is a pity: Even the 36 is too heavy an bulky for my taste. Best thing for me is the Möller8/19. Since I own this one I don't use any other anamorphics any more. And this leads me to the question "Why did I buy a 54?" In my case: Boystoys... always the same: Like pimping your car, model railroad...  Thanks god my wife is a broad minded women
  2. I prefer to keep the original authentic Iscorama. Achromat improves it. I doubt the mod can do that.
  3. @Caleb in theory that sounds good and helpful but practically posting ebay auctions prevents snagging a good deal. I am absolutely convinced that for example the Möller 8/19 I snagged on ebay for €650 in mint condition would have been much more expensive and therefor not a good deal if somebody had posted it here. Same with my small Berthiot (€590,-) Although my LA 7200 was nowhere worth it (don't like it, sold it last year) it was not that expensive (€670,-). And that goes on with Kowa, Optex, Iscorama...   Anyway... probably the only way to snag a good deal is maybe on the flea market?
  4. Tasteful, great idea and very good executed! Sidenote: Again a 40mm Konica - it seems to be rather popular and therefor I tried it myself sometime ago but mine was awful nearly useless. So soft. Also the 50mm Konica was not good although both seemed to be in good shape. Sold them. Just interesting how different lenses from the same manufacturer can be...
  5. The above mentioned Pany 35-100mm works great on a GH3/GH2. It is (nearly) parfokahl, doesn't extend and it is stabilized. Perfect for run and gun. Probably for some people it lacks "character" as they prefer that raw/vintage look but if you are looking for something "modern", "contrasty" and convenient/practical it does a good job.   Nice to have the opportunities!
  6. Meet the seehorse... came into my mind. Great skate video. The cinevision is very impressive and you very good work on your side. Flares are not the main reason for me to like anamorphic - and too much en vogue (or may be were?) at the moment. Honestly I cannot say what I really like about anamorphic: I am not so much into flares, I don't notice oval bokeh... I just like it -like millions of other people just watching and enjoying without the knowledge how a certain picture is produced.
  7. Wow! Congrats on your constantly growing collection of cool anamorphics! Your Lomos produce a very nice picture: As you mentioned not so sharp and contrasty but very beautiful! Can you operate Lomos alone with ease? Anyway now you are prepared for different situations: For quick and easy you own an Isco (and of course I have to mention your small Hypergonar) and for epic stuff your Lomos -fantastatic. I am curious on your upcoming work.
  8. Surprise...! That is great news Sebastien. I am very excited about your first test and examples. I think it is a great idea to chose that Zeiss lens. I am also in no way afraid that it will be too clinical or lack "character" or "soul" or it is not "cinematic" just because it isn't vintage. I think a more neutral lens can also be very desirable as it gives you more opportunities. Could be more difficult to make a vintage lens look modern than the other way round... On top I made the experience that my Zeiss lenses are rather different: My 50mm 1.4 Rollei was very sharp and neutral (cold?) and my 50, 35 mm Contax are way warmer and not as sharp as Canon FD... I was not expecting that.   I don't know much about tilt shift instead it is useful for perspective correction and (over?) used for miniature-fake stuff... again I am looking forward on that. However what really impresses me is that you are so busy and you produce loads of cool videos instead of just testing with iphone et cetera like me (and others  ;) ) At the moment I have too much work but I am also looking forward to do some tests (as usual...) with my new kid on the block: Pany 35-100 with Easyrama: Stabilized, zoom, rackfocus  Bit of vignetting at 35mm so far but I ordered a few Heliopan steprings to use insted of Redstan ring to come closer.   However: Very good news you stick to your Hypergonar. That will keep prices high for that great little gem  ;)
  9.   The 28mm 2.0 its a very good lens!            i have the 28 2.8, and its sharp too.   The 35mm and 50 1.4 are amazing lenses too.  Yeeesss! I love the 28mm 2.0. I also had the 2.8 (gave it a friend as a gift) The 2.8 is a little bit softer but I preferred the 52mm thread. I also decided to take my 35mm off the ebay listing - The color is not my cup of tea but it is sharper than the zeiss 35mm 2.8.   Well I am a little bit of a canon guy... :)
  10. Very interesting color and epic scenery on these screenshots! I am looking forward for the final film!!! Hope you share it with us... Canon FD Lenses are very good I think. I have the 28mm F 2.0 which is fantastic in sharpness wide open. Same as the 35mm 2.0 which has unfortunately for my taste a too warm color rendition.  The 50mm 1.4 is as sharp as the Zeiss 50mm 1.4 (maybe sharper)  However I am switching and therefore I will probably sell my FD collection.
  11. Hi itimjim. Thank you for your post! I thought I have a "thorium" 35mm 2.0 S.S.C. although it is not chrome nose (thought the older S.S.C. are all radioactive). Thorium or not it is still rather yellow and two warm compared to my other Canons which I do like ( 28mm 2.0 S.S.C, 50mm 1.4, and also my Tokina FD 17mm 3.5 is good)  During the last days I read a lot and it seems the Zeiss glass has some advantages (sometimes very little - especially regarding Nikkors Ais) But I like build quality, sharpness and color very much from my experience with the 50mm 1.4 HFT. I am pretty sure I will sell all my FD glass and keep the extraordinary russian lenses. Sometimes I will need something special from my hopefully soon growing Zeiss collection.
  12. Thank you very much for sharing!!! That was great and I really enjoyed the performance of the dancer. Music was also very good! I am especially grateful as I was planning to sell my Hypergonar - this video absolutely changed my mind. Oh my god that would have been disastrous if you would have posted this two weeks later... Would have driven me insane. I just forgot how great this tiny lens can look. CAN - because in my case it lacks inability of the operator. You really do a great job. How can you film so steady handheld??? Man I am 45 and shaky like 85 :-(   Thanks for all your inspiring work and sharing your experiences!
  13. Big thank you for all your comments! I have been reading a lot on the net and followed your links and checked ebay. I also compared some reviews especially for Nikkor 28 Ais which seems to be really good (as you recommended) at its Zeiss counterpart at slrlensreviews.com It was also very helpful to read about all these different Nikon lenses. That was really confusing on ebay. So Nikkors will for sure worth a second look. Either Takumars.  However my decision was made easy and suddenly because I just bougth two boxed Contax Zeiss (one together with Novoflex adapter) for a reasonable price. So I will start collecting a couple of these and sell some of my older lenses. But as I will still keep my eyes open for Nikon (52mm thread is also great on them) These step-up and down rings are somehow annoying.   @richg 101 I like your really like your rescore of that track. I also liked the movie - especially the first half. Great atmosphere and images but then I lost the plot a little bit. Seemed like two films in one. Or maybe I am just tooo old and not so much into horror  :o This happened as I tried to make my own epic horror-scifi-movie-action-adventure with my own "score" :http://vimeo.com/55229230   Once again a very big Thank You to all of you - again I have learned a lot!
  14. Thank you very much for your input and tips on this matter!  @ Bioskop.Inc First I must say I do not reject the russian lens. Especially the Jupiter is lovely. The problem is I just don't use them often (nearly never) and I don't know why...? Maybe I like them faster and wider. And the Mir is very soft (still interestring). I will definately keep these four you mentioned except the Tair which I don't own for special purposes. I have a Yashica 50mm 1.7 which is also very good (but) and produces the weirdest flares of all my lenses. I am looking for small box with my 4 lenses which cope with most situations and I thought it would be a good idea to have them togehter from one manufacturer (that is what some Pros I now do).    @richg 101 I think the Zeiss lenses would suit me well! I already have a Rollei 50mm and I like the build quality and the sharpness/color/contrast. The sharpness of your videos is very impressive. Does this depend on your Sony Nex5? Intresting that you will go the other direction: switch to the russian lenses (however they come rather blurry with the extra f-stop) On the other hand there are faster Zeiss lenses but they are expensive... and I am not sure if it is worth it. Your video is very sharp - and looks very good. I am very impressed. Looks Great! Thank you for posting. I think I have to check out a Sony NEX. I recently saw one for €300,-  PS did you make the score for Sunshine?    I am still interested on opinions about Nikon lenses... I searched the net and there are tons on different opinions but they don't consider anamorphics.   Again thanks a lot!
  15. I have a couple of Canon FDs, some russian lens, Yashica, Zeiss, Panasonic and one I like very much is the Olympus Zuiko 38mm. All together maybe 15 and I am not really unhappy but I am not sure if this makes sense. I got the feeling I bought a lot and some were not was I am looking for (I recently sold my Konicas)  I would like to have maybe 4 primes of really good quality with a homogenous look and sharpness. For example Zeiss 28mm, 35mm, 50mm and 85mm or similar Nikkors AIS (I just posted this "problem" in a new thread). But when I watch your great video... maybe it is just my disability and not the lens  :)
  16. I have a problem with my taking lenses: I have a couple of different lenses through the range - the usual suspects (Helios, Jupiter 85, Mir 37, several Canon FD 28mm F2, 35mm F2, 50mm F1.4, Zeiss 50mm 1.4) and some others. So far not bad. But I would like to have maybe 3-4 primes which are rather similar. I went for the Canons FD but the problem is that they are quite different in colour (as you might know the 35 mm is so warm/yellow). I am now thinking about switching to Nikon AIS but have no experiences with them. How about Zeiss Contax. So 1. Which are homogenous through the range and  2. Would work nice with Iscorama? I would be very grateful for some tips and advice.
  17. Thank you very much for your answers Mauri - that helps a lot because I am a little bit unhappy with my lenses and looking for alternatives. I have lightcraft variable ND filters which shall be okay - I think they do a good job. I also have the GH 2 and will check out the Flowmotion v2.2 hack!
  18. Super! I also love your Kowa. Astonishing: I just sold my Konica 40mm as it was too blurry for me and I also saw other blurry footage of this lens but yours is great. Great atmosphere on the snow shoot but I agree it is a little bit long. I think it is sometimes not easy to shorten a video but is also something I still have to learn. (hope you don't got me wrong) The other clips were both great. Thank you very much!!!
  19. I am not an expert like most others here. But I owned the anamorphics in question but sold them because they did not suit my needs. Maybe this should be the first question instead of price: "which one suits me". However I think the LA is totally overpriced. Optex and Century the same for it's capabilities. Sankors are better and could be found on ebay around 200-350 Euros. I like the color, sharpness, flare but it is not the most practical (heavy) and you have to get used to double focus.  Unfortunately most lenses are overpriced I think but some are so great they are worth the high price. (good Iscorama, Möller) The best thing is to be patient instead of waisting money for wrong decisions. Good luck!
  20. Man... that is very sharp! Great video with loudness boosted to the max (initially woke up my neighbours I think  :D ) Is the 50mm fd 1.8 sharper than the 1.4? Why don't you like ND faders? I use them a lot.  Thanks for sharing your video!
  21. Somehow I agree with Tony but what I don't understand is the mismatch with price and quality. I paid $3,000 for a new Iscorama but it  is silly to spend much for one with fungus, haze or whatever. The same story with the LA 7200: I bought a mint example for nearly $800,- which was too much for the poor picture-plastic-quality. Later I sold it for more then 1150,- on ebay. The same with all other anamorphics I bought them for reasonable prices and sold them for too much. You won't beleive me but sometimes I felt that is not right Just a little bit... On the other hand I am a little bit more patient and therefore often more lucky: I recently bought a mint Zeiss 50mm 1.4 HFT for €200,- and for the Möller (with leather case) I paid €650,- I just hope it is as good as shown on the pictures. Three days ago somebody sold  a lovely Zuiko 38mm F 1,8 for €113,- that is such a grreat lens (I already have one) BTW I have to mention that Mr. Wilson's clamps which are a piece of art in my mind convinced me to buy the little Möller. I am so tired of ugly DIY solutions. I love it smart and elegant with great functionality.  When I received the clamp for my first anamorphic (wonderful Sankor) everyhting changed: Before I used VidAtlantic and allignement was difficult and ugly. With the Redstan Clamp the fun began. For me the wrong place to be stingy with - the same like quality anamorphics. But don't pay $1200,- for LA 7200 or $5,000 for B- Isco 54
  22. Congrats to your great anamorphic! Very impressive. A couple of days ago there was a YashicaScope on ebay from South Africa boxed and with some additional goodies. It was sold around €350,- . I was thinking about it but the videos did not convince me: Too soft. And I also wanted to go for a Möller. I like these small anamorphics like your Shiga. So handy and practical. I sold my Sankor, LA7200 because they are too heavy and big. Looking forward for more stuff from you and the Shigascope. Thanks for sharing your experiences!
  23. Once again thank you very much for your very interesting input and background information!    I got the feeling that your rating does effect prices very quick: The item mentioned in this thread sold rather quick and two days ago there was another one for about $2,200 (with box and some additional goodies). I think was sold as well. It is sometimes totally over the top in my eyes: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Isco-Gottingen-Iscorama-Anamorphot-1-5x-54-/251198312998?pt=US_Vintage_Cameras&hash=item3a7c961226 Or this one with beautiful separation: http://www.ebay.com/itm/M42-Isco-Iscorama-4136507-Pentax-Praktica-/251172658586?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3a7b0e9d9a
  24. Thank you very much, Tony for sharing so much of your knowledge!  I am not a professional like most (?) of the others in this forum here and I am therefor very grateful. This tiny Bolex Möller seems to be even more astonishing then the tiny Berthiot and  probably a very good addition to a Iscorama for being so handy.   Once you had a special clamp for the Bolex Möller 8/19. For anybody interested in this lens it would be fantastic to have such an elegant mounting solution!
  25. I saw the vlog from eyapatch entertainment and he says he can go up to 28mm. As far as I understood he also loves this lens... There were at least four Boles Möllers on ebay recently. Just about two weeks ago I was in contact with a seller of the Möller 16... and he said I could buy it right away for $750,- ! Unfortunately I got his email during the night and when I got up it was gone...  :( However I don't know if the Möller 8... would suit my needs? It is as small as my Berthiot what is great but not as easy to handle. Meanwhile I am quite happy with the Berthiot: With the right lens works quite well (for me the Zuiko 38mm 1,8 works great). I also have a couple of diopters from 0.5 - 2 (am I getting off topic)? Anyway... just spend more than €1.000,- for collection. Or is the Möller really worth it? Maybe I could part with the Berthiot? But on the other hand... double focussing...
