Wow! This is really astonishing! However I don't dare to join the club. I am even often anxious to take my Isco outside. Maybe the reason therefore is that it is old new... Great! I enjoyed that very much. I think the Iscomorphot was a very good investment. I am thinking of you first "Statues" clip with the "Baby Hypergonar-Konica" combination and I think this looks better: much sharper especially in the edges. By the way I nearly can't get a sharp image out of the same combo at all... even at f16 it is not convincing. Thank you for sharing your work and experiences and I am looking forward for more! :)

I recently bought a Canon 500d +2 achromat for €80,- That is what you need when you want to do a "Sergio Leone-shoot"... (really close!) The quality is great and with the 72mm thread perfect for an Iscorama a many others (with additional clamps Optex, Sankors etc)

That sounds very intriguing. However I already bought the Tokina 0,5 from you - would this make a big difference? So far I am pretty confident with the quality and had no chance to check out the 0.4 achromat - so I can not judge on my own. Upgrade Kit for the Baby Hypergonar sounds even more intruiging... :) And as my beloved wife told me: "You are not an asshole and you don't deal in cheap goods!"

Obviously I am not the only one addicted to anamorphics... Although I am very happy with my stuff and also I am nearly bankrupt I am often checking on ebay about some lenses and anamorphics - stupid me :blink:

Congratulations! I really now how you feel as I am also some lucky dog: I bought a new '68 Iscorama with Exakta taking lens... a couple of months ago. And I also love it. I never had this before with any other anamorphic. The picture quality is so nice and sharp. It flares so warm, subtle and beautiful. I also love the opportunity to go wide open (at least 2.8 is pretty sharp I think). For me the Iscorama has (sorry!) sexappeal. It looks also very good when mounted: no clamps needed, no DIY filter-solutions... It offers also the opportunity to create another sort of cinematic look. I think for a lot of people "cinematic look" means something like vintage and degraded picture quality. Therefore a lot of grain, scratches, misfire (everything magic bullet offers...) is added. But for me cinematic means also the feel and the atmosphere. Especially the atmosphere and therefore - for example the sound and the soundtrack, the cameramovement and the light. It is not only about lenses. So I think it doesn't make sense to discuss if this or that anamorphic is more cinematic. Just imagine the weatherforecast filmed with Lomo - still not cinematic... I just bought a 72mm Canon +2 achromat for closer close-ups. Lets see how this looks. I also have the +0,5 Tokina but maybe the 0,4 Achromat would be an investment - not sure about that and I don't know where to buy (maybe Redstan?) Unfortunately I am a little bit too scared to take it with me... I am so anxious the shiny new Isco could fell down. Therefore I use the also extremely lovely "Baby-Hypergonar" very often. BTW: Thank you for your short clip and good luck for your future project! Made some tests with mine - maybe I can upload them tomorrow on vimeo. PS I would also be grateful for any lense-tips PPS I am selling a Panasonic LA7200 on ebay - if anybody is interested?

I think I am not really sure about the meaning of cinematic look and feeling. I think it is not only a matter of flares and distortion. Do you mean the stretch factor (2x, 1,66, 1,5 or 1,33?) I also spent a lot of money for several anamorphic and I still own a Pany although I never used it much at just does not produce a nice image like an Iscorama but it is very nice to use (still ugly cheap plastic and too big, can't mount diopters untill your great DIY-solution :) !) The Baby Hypergonar is better in the aspect but not as good as an Isco. I agree that Sankors, Kowas (had those) are great but they are just not so practical. And sometimes your footage is not really sharp. I have never owned a Lomo - the footage I have seen looks great but the Lomos look... heavy? ;) Well, I am really not an expert and my customers are not interested in anamorphic footage - they even don't think about cinematic looks at all (just boring stuff) :unsure: Therefor it is more or less a hobby and funstuff for me

I think you can spend a lot of money over time: You would want to try this and that anamorphic and therefore you buy and sell on ebay like so many others used to do. In the end my experience is (well not really mine it was a tip from Redstan): Sell all your Sankors, Pany, Optex and buy a good Iscorama for "serious shit". That was the best thing I could do. Nothing comes close when it comes to handling and practicality. I really love it. And the quality is just fantastic - of course you have to be lucky to find a good example. And the "cinematic character" of the image also depends a lot on the taking lens I think?! Good luck :) PS I think the Baby Hypergonar is much better - again in terms of usage then the other two mentioned! Works fantastic with several lenses. For example with a Olympus 38mm Zuiko F 2.0 but you would have to stop down to I would say a least F4.0 for these focus through anamorphics for corner sharpness.

QuickHitRecord, your footage with the Konica looked very nice (as I mentioned above) and therefore I am not really sad if the 35mm will not work. I am looking forward for the Konica now! Maybe there are some instrestring alternatives for the Hypergonar... I would like to go as wide as possible for a simple reason: I would like to use a rather small setup without a tripod or any other stabilization and I think it becomes easier to get a less shaky image with wider lenses. Or maybe I should not drink so much coffee? However I am often tired of carrying around kilos of bags with camera, tripod, half a dozen lenses et cetera (I often carry nearly all my equipment around because I might need a slider and a matte box and the 500mm tele-lens... :wacko: ) Off topic: today afternoon I met a very nice guy from Tuscon at the playground. Wether was very nice and I decided to go out with my little son. So the man from Tuscon did. And it happened we began to talk and he told me is a professor and doing stuff with astronomy (sometimes he is working with Hubble for example). And as I was writing here just hours ago I smiled and asked him about Professor Chretien: Of course he knew about him. But he has not heard that he developed the anamorphotoscop B)

This is a great thread! Thanks a lot for all your input and experiences. And of course for your video QuickHitRecord - very nice! I was never really confident of the handling and had some issue with clamps. Therefore I very rarely used the Baby... I only checked out the Canon 1.4 50mm. I am also looking forward to check the Konica 40mm and maybe it is also possible to mount a Thorium Canon 35mm with (sligthly) vignetting??? However I want to say especially THANK YOU VERY MUCH to Seb for his setup. I am still interested if anybody has tried it on a c-mount lens? Mine came with an appropriate adapter/clamp. And thank you Tony: As you suggested I will sell all the other Pany, Sankor etc stuff except Iscorama and this lovely piece of art. rudolf PS Seb: I really love your work.
